Strauss dedicated this work to the conductor Willem Mengelberg and Mengelberg recorded it with the New York Philharmonic in December of 1928 with Scipione Guidi playing the solo fiddle. In the span of twelve years, Mengelberg performed this work no fewer than 21 times and Guidi was the soloist almost every time. Guidi later got fired (by Vladimir Golschmann in 1942) from his concertmaster job in St Louis and moved to Hollywood. This is a wonderful performance and David Kim does a fantastic job. Bravo!
