Is it ever possible to summon Bernahl for any fight before he joins Volcano Manor and becomes a Recusant? I can't ever recall him being available for any battle before tag teaming with him to fight Vargram and Wilhelm.

It's just melina herself chose a different purpose for her life after you choose to burn yourself instead of her. since her main purpose is to burn the erdtree but since u denied her that decision she was forced to take a different path and maybe awakened her destined death powers

I know summons get their damage cut down to garbage to force the player to fight. Do invaders suffer any penalties? Lower hp perhaps?

To counterbalance, summons are usually tankier and have more flasks.

What criteria did you use to determine which side a character would be on? Some of the NPCs are both.

Yes. So there's two of them. If you look at the third round you can clearly see 2 Millicents fighting at once. One fighting Melina, and the other fighting Alexander

I think he's not here because he's not technically an invader (you invade him, not the other way around)- though they did include Varre and the invadable Millicent... maybe because he's a Volcano Manor target, then? I didn't see Willy or the others, either, so that might be it

I just didn't know if you misspelled Melina (the girl with whom we level up) or if you were referring to Millicent and mistook her for Malenia due to waterfowl dance. In case you missed her Millicent is an npc you can find in the game you can summon her in a few places after advancing her questline. She is missing an arm and after you find her a prothesis she fights similar to Malenia.
