Gael is an S tier boss and always will be. He's not even that hard, but he's just challenging enough to keep you on your toes whilest still letting you enjoy the sheer spectacle of the boss. The music, his visual design, his moveset, his gigantic arena, the thematics of him against the player. Up there with Ludwig and Isshin, the holy trinity of Souls bosses that no Elden Ring boss has quite managed to reach in my opinion.

the only thing i find slightly unfair about this is the fact that he didn't rot with romina when he did after taking all those attacks, it just isn't programmed in. ds3 original gael could be poisoned by the player, so i am almost 100% certain he could be rotted, an ailment far worse than poisoning. it may not have made romina win, but it might have at best made the fight closer.

I honestly don't find it very fair Gael gets to begin already with his second phase. He was probably designed to get the blood of the dark soul's powers towards the mid-fight just the way Radahn gets Miquella's back up or Messmer gets his serpents in their second phases.

It's just too complicated to get both phases working because Gael phase 1 is completely different model/mob, besides I've seen someone do Gael phase 1 vs Gael phase 2 and Gael phase 1 won lol, so phase 1 might actually perform just as well if not better than phase 2 in boss vs boss. His 5 hit rage combo in phase 1 does a LOT of dmg to other bosses so I think it the outcome would have been pretty much the same. Phase 3 is obviously the strongest tho.

And while phase 1 Gael is much more agile than phase 2 he has much less poise usually, and this might lead to faster bosses like Radagon, Malenia or Malekith having a better chance at dealing with him.
