The best all around tire I have ever run is the Kelly TSR. It is one of the original hybrids that came out around the time of Goodyear Duratrac's. They are by far the longest wearing tire I have ever used. I had two sets in a row on my personal truck (Ram 1500) and they went 65,000 and 55,000 respectively. The last set still had a few k miles left when I sold the truck. It looks like they renamed the Kelly TSR to "Edge MT". Wanting a change after several years of the same tire, I went with the Hankook Dynapro MT2 this go round on my personal vehicle. I liked the looks, tighter than normal for a MT tread spacing, and generous siping for a MT. So far I am extremely pleased. They clean out easier and seem to have a little more grip offroad than the Kelly's. The performed just as well as the Kelly's on the highway, rain, and snow. I have run some of the other aggressive all-terrains on work vehicles and seem them in action on friends trucks and was not impressed.

Toyo just came out with a Toyo open country R/T trail. And I have them on my 3500 diesel truck and I love them. In my opinion, there the best of both a A/T and a M/T. And I don’t like a lot of sighting in my tires. Yes they are great for ice driving but I have noticed with a tire that has a lot of swiping in the tread. You get a lot of chipping and gouging out of the tread. So I do not like a tire that has a lot of siding. But the Toyo open country R/T trails. They are really good and rain snow and ice. If you have a diesel truck and you’re driving in rain or snow, ice, mud, etc. drop your air pressure from 80 psi to 40 to 60 psi. And it will give you better traction then you’ll get in a A/T tire. When I am on dirt roads in rough terrain for Extended. Time in my diesel truck I will drop my air pressure down to even 20 to 25 psi. It has given me even more traction. And the Toyo open country R/T trails. Have the benefit of being a lightweight tire gives you the right comfort of a highway 10 ply tire, but has the durability and toughness as a mud tire. And this is done by, the construction of the tire and it’s designed. If you look at the specs of the tire, it has a two play sidewall, but the side walls are extra thick. And instead of having one Kevlar band, it has two Kevlar bands in the sidewall. That way when you’re driving to work or family commutes in your truck, you have the comfort of a two ply sidewall and like I said, the durability and strength of a three ply sidewall. Because if you look at a mud, terrain tire or a lot of the rugged, terrain tires, they have a three ply sidewall. And I don’t know about you guys but a three ply sidewall makes your ride even stiffer, especially when you’re in a diesel HD truck. But if you love to go off-road on some serious gnarly trails, then I would suggest going with a Toyo open country, RT or a mud terrain tire. Basically a tire that has a true three ply sidewall. And I would like to add to this that the Toyo open country, R/T trails. Give you a better ride and comfort then other all-terrain tires. I had a set of Les Schwab open range A/T LT-10 ply tires on my truck before the Toyo R/T trails and I absolutely did not like them at all, and I would never recommend anyone to get them. I constantly had balancing issues and I don’t even go off road in bad places. Basically I drive on dirt Rocky trails and dirt roads like logging roads. In the tires sucked in my opinion, especially in snow and ice and in mud. And they didn’t really even do that. Great and send. When I went driving on the beach even with my tire pressures at 45 psi I still had some problems. And not to mention those tires had a 65,000 mile warranty and they only lasted me 41,000 miles before I had a tire catastrophically fail due to a manufacture defect.

@TrailBuilt Жыл бұрын
Winter tires are specially designed to excel in cold temperatures and on roads covered with snow. They use a distinct rubber compound that stays flexible even in freezing weather. Mud tires usually sport robust, aggressive tread patterns with wide spaces between the blocks of treads. These designs are specifically crafted to dig into and grab hold of soft, loose, and warm terrains such as mud. Mud tires just aren't designed to handle the cold like winter tires can.
