I was thinking to myself, "There's no way he started with the tone rolled up..." That is a T H I C C bass tone!

Exactly my words when I was a 15 year old guitar player. Nowadays suitable with a 2 yards long pedalboard. That's what I think after 40 years with bass.

I've been playing bass for the better part of 10 years now, and quite frankly as time passes by I have become more and more enamoured with the sound of the humbucker short scale bass. This Epi Newport is just a lovely example of such a really great, simple concept. Even with "lead bass" I like to play with that woofy subsonic tone that short scale overwound humbucker gives me. It's the shit.

I love how i could immediately tell it had flat wounds on it. I read a study by an acoustic engineer who tested freq response on long & short scale basses each with round and flat wounds, the short scale with flats had the most even tonal response across the fretboard.

great series & I think we’re all the more glad this bass ended up crossing your path. that thing is dubby as all hell

That's a beautiful bass. Reminds me when in the 60's I had an Epiphone Coronet. Similar design. Those were great days back then. Oh for a time machine.

I really admire the instruments you build but can’t exactly afford one, so just the other day I did I guess the next best thing, which was to snatch up an Epiphone Embassy in wanderlust green as an early birthday present to myself. It’s fun to play and works well in the context of my cover band. With two humbuckers in more of a jazz bass position it’s got a surprisingly broad tonal range. Plus, I got it for only $279 brand new!!! This video is interesting because comments across the web have mentioned how similar some of your designs are to the Epiphones. It’s cool to hear you acknowledge the influence.

What you can do is retiring the 0.1uf capacitor from the volume and tone knobs, that helps to give it clarity.
@AndreaAustoni2 жыл бұрын
With the tone up, the cap doesn't do anything though. Getting rid of the tone circuit completely and using a higher value volume pot would add a bit of brightness.
@GuajoloteGonzales2 жыл бұрын
@@AndreaAustoni Actually in a bass like this it really cuts the treble even when the tone is fully open, because the mudbucker hasn't too much treble, so the cap mod mostly works and yes, it can also help the tone circuit and the higher value pot mods.

That dubby tone might sound amazing played a Source Audio C4 synth or an envelope filter.

Please! Compare it with modern Epiphone EB-0. Would love to see and hear how this classics REALLY compare to cheap Chinese reproductions.

@@heggy_69 atleast you appreciate that tone. Most bassists would definitely scamper and get ahold of something more middy and with more note definition. I'd know because I'm one of those bassists lmfao.
