ALL the best "Detective Rounds" from my NMPZ record attempts (mostly unseen!)

Detective rounds. The shit name that I gave to those rounds where you figure out exactly where you are in the world (or near enough) using limited information. Usually more laborious and time consuming than an insane guess, but every bit as rewarding.
In this video you get to see some of the best unseen detective rounds from the 15 hours of attempts I've made so far in my quest for the leaderboard, as well as three rounds that I'm sure you won't mind seeing one more time: Valparaiso, Salta and of course, Kenya.

Double-yellow lines separating the directions of traffic means it's probably the Americas. Shadows were leaning north, so northern hemisphere. Can't explain why the US is ruled out, but it just... doesn't look like the US. And, yeah, just... looks like Mexico. Play enough rounds and your subconscious starts to learn things visually that you can't put into words.

It's not that remarkable really if you play the game a fair bit. Plenty of places have very distinctive plants (and other things, like rock formations and soil colour).

It's "obviously" Iceland (at least to me as an Icelander and to the GeoWizard as an expert). He somehow "sees" the ocean to the north and the mountains so he deduces that he's in a fjord facing north. Now, there aren't that many of them that are as narrow as this one (and maybe he even went there because it's close to the largest town in N-Iceland Akureyri). Well, that's what I think was going on.

To be fair, even Tom said he can't believe it. As the other user said, it's obviously Iceland and he picked the most obvious, central fjord on northern coast. The exact road/location was luck.

Me when entering a round: Ah yes, the road here is made out of road. I mean no offence to your detective work, 97% of the time you end up being less than 10 yards off.

26:00 another clue to use to confirm a location is the building shapes. You can see the tall building on the right has a diagonal wall facing the intersection, which is reflected on the map where he was guessing.

I played GeoGuesser for the first time after watching this channel and feeling like i was already fairly proficient at GoogleMaps...it took me a dozen rounds (with moving, panning, zooming) to finally get a 5,000 point round and you do it from a single picture...amazing stuff.

Little piece of advice to have fun at this game for free: go to Twitch (make an account if you haven't already) and search for chatguessr: you'll find a few small streamers, pretty much any time of the day, playing geoguessr, and you'll be able to play along with all other viewers in real time. You can make your guess in a map and your score will be tracked, and you'll compete with all the other viewers+the streamer. I think it's more fun that the official geoguessr

Just as a tip for anyone in the comments, Denmark can often be very distinctive and easy as they are pretty much the only people to put those thinly spaced dashed lines along the side of the road like that. Have noticed France and Sweden have done it before aswell, but 99% of the time those lines automatically mean Denmark. Has helped me in quite a few battle Royales :)

Okay @Tom you have to explain something to me. I just looked at your "Detective Rounds" and "Insane Guesses" compilation and I noticed something. Of your total of 34 insane/detective guesses, 28 are in the first round and only 6 in rounds 2-5. That's 82% (for insane guesses even 88%). Whatever you do differently in the first round, you should play all the other rounds like this and you will easily make the leaderboard ;-)

That’s because to get on the leaderboard he needs near perfection on every round. So if he fails on round 1 and gets 4000 points he’ll just restart instead of pointlessly finishing it. This means he’ll have played way more round 1s than any other.
