The reverse grumpy/sunshine in Emily Wilde is just perfection. LOVE the romance in this book. But the setting was equally incredible!

I totally agree with that authors statement that reading fiction from different time periods in history can give you a really good idea of the challenges of that time. I took an Irish Lit and Chinese Lit class in college and I learned so much about their revolutions.

Yes to December Wrap Up! 👏🏽

If you are into historical romance I'd recommend The hacienda by Isabel Canas. It's haunted house story set in Mexico by an Mexican-American author. It starts with recently married Beatriz (She's poor and basically married first guy who asked her because women didn't have that much opportunities back then) arriving at her husbands house and finding out that something creepy is going on. Can't say much more without spoiling but I liked it.

I read the sequel to Emily Wilde as an arc, and if you loved the first book, you'll love the sequel too! So cute, so good!

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow is a beautiful fantasy. I liked this book more than Starling House. Haven’t read The Once and Future Witches yet!

"Emily Wilde" was easily one of my top 5 reads of 2023, and the first romance that made me feel giddy in a while, so I'm glad you enjoyed it! I had a mixed December, some good books some bad. My favorite books in December were "The Hexologists" and "The Lost Apothecary," and my least favorite was "Murder at the Bookstore." VenCo has been on my goodreads TBR for a while, and I definitely plan on picking it up this year.

So glad you enjoyed Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries - Emily has to be one of my favourite protagonists ever! I read The Starless Sea in December and adored it even after not loving The Night Circus so much. Hope you have a wonderful reading year this year!

Wow! Your nonfiction books sound so good! And you definitely convinced me to read VENCO! I will check it out. I also loved STARLING HOUSE when I read it in October or November. I read the first EMILY WILDE book in November and loved it. I asked for the sequel for my birthday (Christmas, so it’ll be belated), so I think my friend will get it for me. SO EXCITED! Another friend got me an early copy of LORE OF THE WILDS, an Adult Fantasy by a BIPOC author that comes out this April, I think. It sounds amazing! I read 6 books in December and I think my favorite was DIVINE RIVALS by Rebecca Ross (YA Fantasy). 🥰

Another amazing wrapup :) in December I finished Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno Garcia which I loved, listened to the audiobook for Daisy Jones and the Six which was absolutely phenomenal, and started Assassin’s Apprentice which I actually just finished today and really enjoyed! I would love to see vlogs of living/working in Toronto, if it’s something you’d want to do ofc 🩷

Speaking of the reverse grumpy/sunshine trope with grumpy woman and sunshine man or even a queer relationship 👀 Does anyone have recommendations for that trope? Ideally books with cozy magical vibes as well.

I agree reading is political. Thanks for the recommendations. I’m currently listening to Freedom is a Constant Struggle narrated by the author herself, a very interesting book 📖💛🍉

Love how vocal you are about Palestine ♥️ will do the same on my channel ! Definitely recommend “ten myths about Israel” by Ilan Pappe , an Israeli historian . If you haven’t read it , definitely one to pick up!
