The Ford-patented heat pump uses vapor injection. That is better than usual technology. It is very nice to see Ford making that choice. Vapor injection is the feature that enables Mitsubishi Hyper Heat and other "cold climate heat pumps" to deliver heat in very low temperatures. Good news for cold climate drivers, since it will add comfort while lessening the winter mileage hit. By the way, if you get a residential heat pump and you live above the Mason Dixon Line, be sure to install a cold climate heat pump. No need to pay for that feature if you live south of that line.

Thanks for the video. I just picked up a 23 Lightning Lariat. Sounds like there is nothing new for 24 I would miss, but gained a few things on the 23 that are either not available or added extras now on the 24, like the 3 yr blue cruise, charge station, and pro power. So I'm happy to have the 23. The one thing that gives me pause is the upcoming change to NACS charge port that I think is scheduled for 25, + capability of charging at Tesla Superchargers. I've heard there will be an adapter for CCS equipped models, but I won't fully believe that until I see it.

I love my F350, but I also love my model X. Plan on trading in the X next year for a smaller EV pickup as a daily driver. So many EV pickup choices it will be hard to decide. Thank you for this info, very helpful!

Any EV truck coming out that is the size of the maverick? Lightning may be too big for my needs… but I still want it. A maverick EV would be more my style (city boy) and also much more affordable.

Single on-board charging is what they had for SR models during 2022/2023. The ER models had better equipment that supported faster battery charging and allowed for 80 AMP level 2 charging for the ER models, where SR was limited to 48 AMP.

How many people could add an extra 100A circuit to their panel, to allow the full 80A? Almost none, without spending $1000s on an electrical service upgrade. Most of the 80A chargers are being used at 48A anyway, on the required (and much more feasible) 60A circuit.

I am sure you already know this, but for others who are not aware, the dual on-board chargers in the ER models also increase the maximum charge rate at DC fast chargers when charging a Lightning at a public charging station.

@@williamsmith8432 I don’t believe so. Those dual units are converters, that convert AC to DC for charging the battery pack. Level 3 Fast DC charging is already DC, so the converters are not used.

I thought those came into play and were part of the technical reason the ER has a maximum higher charging rate on the DCFC equipment. I’ll have to go back and watch the State of Charge KZbin channel’s video and see what it was that Tom mentioned as part of the reason for the lower max charge rate. 😃

"REMOVED" ! Wow, raise the price and remove, remove, remove, is the theme for '24. Glad I got my '23 Lariat. It's disappointing to see the truck getting stripped down and going backwards. The only thing added to is the price! Guess this is how you pay for the new union labor raise. No pro power, 9.6kw to 2.4kw Dual charger gone, now single 3yr BC now 90 day Active park assist gone No garage opener for 2024, seriously? WTFO less speakers, the list goes on and on. Model years are supposed to get better each year, NOT WORSE. DISAPPOINTING

The price didn't go up from 23 to 24 except the XLT trim. It did go up $2500.

The Home Integration System is required. That allows the reverse transfer of current.

I believe the 2023s have had an update to help with pre-conditioning for charging. If so then the 2024 should have them already on it at delivery.

Yes, it is available in 2024. Dealers won't usually display A/Z plan. Customers must provide the pin to get plan pricing.

Tim, are there any details regarding which trim levels include the Pro Power Onboard 9.6 KW, or have the option of adding it? For 2022/2023, it was standard for ER vehicles, and optional for SR. 312A included the 9.6 KW option.

Great coverage! I ordered a Pro on August 8 and it was accepted. Not scheduled yet. Only options were 240V power pack, and spray in liner. Questions: 1) Do I need to worry about my truck being built this year? 2) How much earlier would I get the truck if I deleted the bed liner and got it locally? THANKS!!!!!

I was told that all retail orders would get built but that they were canceling some stock orders to make sure all retails got built. But I also saw that they were balanced out on 23MY production meaning that they scheduled out for the remainder of 23MY production. You might call Ford Customer Support and see if you got scheduled.

I placed my order for a ‘23 Standard range XLT with 312A yesterday… that’s still what I should receive, right? Or is there a risk of it being changed to a 2024 (without 312)?

Supposedly, as of 10/3/2023, the 2023 Lightning was balanced out and Ford was not going to schedule any additional Lightnings for production during the 2023 model year. I can’t imagine that a vehicle ordered on 10/3/2023 would also get scheduled for production that same day. It would make sense to check with your Ford dealer to confirm what happened. You may have to start looking around for an XLT 312A sitting on a dealer lot or hope someone abandons their incoming order. You might be able to talk me into not taking my 2023 XLT 312A and to get a 2024 Flash trim instead. But Tim would probably shoot me… 😉

Ideally, whatever I ordered doesn’t show up until 2024 - I told my dealer when I placed the order I’m not taking delivery until January then because of the federal credit being point of sale, even it meant it sitting on the lot until January.🤣 I’ll wait and see what happens.. I guess either I get what I ordered or they switch me to a 2024 - I’d just be curious which way it goes: XLT without the extra stuff in the 312 package (which should be cheaper) or to a Flash, which would be much more expensive because of the ER. I’m really just hoping to get my 23 as I spec’ed it out. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I wouldn't count on it getting scheduled if you ordered it 10/3 because the note on the scheduling information for dealers says they are balanced out on 23MY Lightnings. Ford will not convert the order over to a 24MY order. You will probably have to put in a 24MY order as well.

I read that a heat pump will be added on all 2024 Lightnings. Unless I missed it, this does not appear to be covered in this video. Do you have any information on whether the heat pump will be added for 2024?

The heat pump was not included on the standard equipment on the order guide. I have an email in with the Brand Manager to see if it was accidently left off or if it will be a later add.

LFP batteries use different chemistry in the design and have some advantages and disadvantages compared to the normal battery in the Lightning. They will last much longer, but have a lower energy density, and thus slightly lower range with a full charge. It is a fairly complex topic that would require a decent amount of reading across multiple articles to get a full grasp on the advantages/disadvantages for the consumer.

It can be applicable only for Tesla where the cylindrical NMC battery is applied. Life is not the concerned subject for Ford lightening model.

Why in the world would Ford make a vehicle with such a tiny range and a massive frunk??? (I've heard the range will be about half the advertised range when towing, offroading, etc.) A VERY common use case for personal trucks is towing something (dune buggies, boats, whatever) out to the middle of nowhere, have fun for the weekend and then head back. Most of the smaller highways are unlikely to have charging infrastructure, but they will have gas stations! I personally am not looking for a truck, but if I was, I wouldn't consider anything where I possibly couldn't drive it freely about the country while towing WITHOUT concerns about range.
