A few things to note when watching these videos: No one is wearing a life jacket, not always even on the children. In the narrow channel, the speed of the boats is surprisingly high (so there is no speed limit as expected?) If the boat has a radar, it is not operational Outboard engines have taken over the market, inboard engines are only found in old boats or large yachts.

I love everything about this video. The blues of the water. The smallest of boats. The largest of commercial ships on the horizon. The guy with the fish in his teeth. The other assorted fresh seafood. The beautiful semi-naked babes. The babies wearing pfds. The toddler not wearing a pfd. The gentleman in the Boston Whaler. A true class act. I remember as a kid in 1970's coming from a boating family OB's evolved to unbelievable 135 HP OMC Evinrudes & Johnson then the amazing 150 Merc . These motors have grown full blown to full blown Johnny Holmes , OMG 2000HP center consoles , what's the fuel consumption on these vessels ? 😅

I'm about the same age coming from the same type of circumstances. I thought those 135's and 150's were the baddest things around, looking through the OMC and Merc brochures. That straight 6 Merc was a legend. While our family was tooling around in our 15 ft runabout with a 50 hp Johnson. A while back I came across a pdf file of the 1975 Johnson outboard sales brochure. I remembered those pictures just like it was yesterday, as when I was looking at it through the eyes of a 16 year old dreamer.

Another kid of the 70s here, grew up on an Adirondack lake with the outboards of the day: 30 Johnson, 40 and 50hp Mercs, a couple single-digit hp rowboats...and a Martin 3hp! My first. But trips to the local marina were always hypnotizing seeing who else pulled in to fuel up, or whatever.

What is the best advice for going through this inlet? We see small boats do fine and big, powerful boats have issues? Motor trim/plane, speed, tide timing....

Most of them seem to have the trim set too high hence the bows high up in the air and jumping out of control. Low trim so the bow cuts through. They might by doing it on purpose though.

Is their no speed limit coming into that inlet? Jetskis and other small craft sharing the same narrow space as high speed powerboats with no limits is a recipe for disaster. Most of those speeding boats would have no idea if their was someone in the water coming in at that speed in those lumpy conditions.

The owner of that Midnight Express at 1:15 hasnt a clue that the boat is made to take waves like that on plane to avoid swamping like he did several times in 10 seconds.
