Absolutely mind blowing the lack of urgency when someone is foundering in the water. This is our society today. Not heroes just what we did as human beings. My buddy and I were anchored in 10' of water, a girl off our bow caught our attention as she was obviously struggling. She had attempted to swim to shore from a boat anchored out much further than ours. My friend and I each grapped a life jacket , dived in and swam over to her. My boat isn't easily accessed in deep water so we decided to get her in one life jacket and use the other as a flotation device for her to hang on to as we swam to shore. We were beat, she was beat, by the time we got to shallow water and half carried her on to the beach. No one on her boat came to check on her and we could see they were watching, so we left her in the care of a beach attendant who had called the police when he saw us half dragging her on to shore. She hadn't taken in any water but she was exhausted. She would have drowned if my friend and I were not there....and the people on her boat didn't do a thing to save her or even check on her welfare as far as we know. Believe me getting back to my boat and trying to get back in was brutal and we were glad to have our 2 life jackets to keep us afloat.

None of those young men even pretended to help that woman that fell in. If I owned a boat, I wouldn't bring out anyone that wasn't of reasonably sound mind and body to be able to save themselves and exhibit a minimal interest in responsible boating practices. If someone is too heavy and out of shape to get themselves back in the boat, you can't expect someone else on the boat to be able to pull them aboard.
@realulli Жыл бұрын
You can prepare for that. E.g. the girl that went swimming for that long, they could have launched the dinghy and picked her up, they could have launched the paddle board, etc... extend a swim ladder if you already have the swim platform down... However, if I was the skipper on one of these boats, I'd have held a safety briefing before slipping the lines and there would be several people busy trying to get her (or him, doesn't matter) back on board, ASAP. The skipper is responsible for everyone on board and at least here in Europe, he will face charges if someone gets injured or even dies. It doesn't matter if you're on a 5m runabout or a 50m superyacht, you're on the hook and face a possible jail term north of a decade...

The correct procedure is to throw the required "throwable" floatation device to her, make the radio call on 16 for Man Overboard and approach from downwind. If you approach from upwind you will be blown right over the survivor in the water. That orange boat about 200 yards aft of their stern would've been to that location in about 30 seconds!!!
@robinj1052 Жыл бұрын
"If you approach from upwind you will be blown right over the survivor in the water." That is only a serious risk when the wind is strong. With gentle winds, that is no risk. Apart from that, if yu have a high freeboard, most of the time the only place where you can lift the person in the water out of the water, is at the stern. Where the propellors are, which you need to keep turning when you approach from downwind. Increasing the risk therefore. What the correct procedure is, after throwing a floatation device, make a MOB call, whilst maintaining an eye on the victim, depends very much on the situation, including windspeed, manouvring space, water depth, etc.

a couple of things i noticed the Lady in clip 9 done the right thing turned on her back and floated that helped save her life where as the Lady in the previous clip was in danger of drowning, the Lady turning on her back helped her calm herself down her face hardly went under the water unlike the Lady before hand who we saw go under a few time increasing panic. both cases shock kicked in, the Lady in clip 9 was able to calm herself down and get over the shock, she then realised the current was to strong so maintained her position in the water. both 'Captains' should have been charged for neglect! especially the previous one. no immediate action was taken for a person overboard, no one responsible for keeping an eyes on them, no life rings deployed! the first Lady needed that! no calls for help let alone notifying other boaters that they had a person in the water. then another point of neglect! radio antenna's laying down! reduces range of radio even more so if using 1 watt power. but i suppose it looks good, that just shows total disregard for the lives of the people they have on board. before you think yet another arm chair 'Captain!' i served 25 years rescuing people just like that! my crew and I in that time came to the aid of over 4,000 people and they along with me managed to save 50 persons lives.

#10 - Sea Fox (blue boat) appears to accelerate, apparently to keep his spot in line, and prevent the larger boat from getting ahead of him. The larger boat also accelerates. The Sea Fox tries to get his spot back in line, in front of the larger boat. But he realizes he can't make it, and when he turns away, his tail swing smacks the larger boat. Sea Fox should have just let the larger boat go. No need to navigate so dangerously close to another vessel just to prove, "I was here first!" Just let it go. "Proving your point" will just escalate the the situation! Better to deescalate and disengage from a confrontation. In boating, keep your cool (it's safer than being a hot head!) ✌️😎🤷🤔
@currencytrader4389 Жыл бұрын
Im surprised boats dont have some sort of emergency ballast system. Like an airbag system for boats. If your boat is sinking, you simply hit the panic button and a bunch of airbags deploy that are around the side of the boat that are stored inside a water tight compartment that stretches along the side of the boat. Basically creating an inflatable life raft around the boat. This would even work if you got caught in rough seas. The airbag system would have the added benefit of essentially turning your boat into a trimaran (triple hull) boat.
