Right on! Congrats on the new job!! With everything in bartending, or the service industry, things change. There is almost nothing that is absolutely black and white in anything that I teach. Country to country, state to state, town to town, even bar to bar things can be different. If you remember we are there to serve the customer and have a good time, everything will be as it should. :)

Aww thanks. But yeah I started off really rushing around and making mistakes when it's best just to be calm. Maybe you could a video about that and how you should be around customers... Good at explaining stuff but a red glass and white glass are distinctly different as in a glen carin for whiskey. That glass he calls red wine is actually brandy. I wonder if he’s changed his mind since making this 6 years ago?

A Rocks glass typically has a thicker bottom, hence rocks. As well as a beveled bottom. Though an old fashioned glass may have a beveled bottom, but it will be slightly larger than a rocks glass. Nobody would argue if you called an old fashioned glass a rocks glass, vice versa.

I know this is about 9 years old but anyone watching should also consider stocking a Margarita glass, a "true" Tom Collins or Collins glass and a Glencairn . What you called a Collins glass is not used for Collins proper. The correct glass is worth minimal $1.00 per serving alone. Without changing a damn thing about the mix it's a $1.00 more charge for serving things proper. Appearance and presentation is half the cocktail or pour to the person who ordered it with an expectation. Many times far more for certain spirits like whiskey or brandy. The drink is not about the bartender or establishment but about honoring the cocktail as normally served! Again, read that a 2nd time. Serve it wrong and suffer the tip. Serve it right or inform me you don't have the proper type glass and earn points. A wine glass is "not" a wine glass. Different glasses for different types of wine. Sad you don't get this, but that's the difference between a $2 tip and $10 tip. Often times, people order specific wines for a purpose to sample a bottle without buying it. Smae with many whiske(e)s. Presentation is everything for a $20+ glass of wine. Not talking about house wines you charge $6 for. But either way the cost of glassware doesn't change but you need to select the correct glassware. The 2nd or 3rd cocktail/serving at $1 more pays for the glass SO HAVE THE CORRECT GLASS and don't substitute glasses. Glassware is less than $1.00 per glass unless specific like Glencairn which could cost you $5 to $6 each. Hell the average person can go to DollarTree and buy most of the proper serving glasses for $1.00 yeach. The correct presentation and ability to smell/taste the spirit is well worth $1.00 per serving. You make fun or "wine snobs" but FAIL to understand presentation and proper pricing. If I got served a white wine in a red wine glass or vice versa I'd personally give you a hard time because you served me wrong. You failed me in my beverage sampling. I'm normally not a prick about spirits but every bartender should know the difference of wine glasses at a minimum. Same with serving whisk(e)y. in different glasses. Depending on the price you would likely get an earful from me for doing it wrong. Charge me $8 a dram and likely won't hear from me but charge me $12 severed WRONG and you'll hear from me as you didn't serve me what I ordered/expected. The bartender that realizes he doesn't have the proper glass but asks me if I still want the order and asks my preference for glass earns points/tips just for the acknowledgement.

Not all schools are bad...and anything that is going to give you confidence is good. When you're entering a new profession its hard to put a price on that. I don't fault you, or anyone, that goes to school. My beef is more with the school owners who prey on people by telling them that a bartending school is MANDATORY for getting a job just to get $500 out of them. THOSE guys are the scumbags and my arch enemies.

@BartendingPro9 жыл бұрын
+Powderkeg When I first started filming these, the intention wasn't ever to have a "channel", it was me filming my lessons from the school I was working at for my students to review after they left. These were all shot on my iSight camera from my macbook pro. Only after I started to get regular viewers did I start to add more videos, but most of the original lessons where already all filmed. Many years later, this project has grown to a place completely unintended by me in the first place. My advice, 1) start with my newer videos, all my latest stuff is shot in HD. 2) My goal is to eventually get around to re-shooting everything in HD, which may take some time, but is on my to-do list none the less. 3) I know it sucks, and I'm sorry for the bad quality, but try to take the lesson from it without letting the quality ruin the gold nugget of info. Cheers
