Stalin actually died 8 years before the Berlin wall started construction, as he died in March 1953, and the construction of the wall began in August 1961. totaling up to just over 8 eight years and 5 months between the two events.

1:45 An additional often overlooked factor in the failure of Operation Barbarossa was the failure of German logistics, particularly German railways. The popularly cited point (when it's cited at all) is that German railways were built to 4ft 8.5in Standard Gauge while Russian railways used the wider 5ft Broad Gauge, the difference in track width meaning that German trains simply couldn't fit on Russian track until engineering teams adjusted the track to their native gauge, a slow process measured in only a few miles per day or worse. Without the use of their own trains to move troops, armor, and most importantly supplies to the front and the Soviets retreating with or destroying their own rolling stock, German logistics were crippled. However, the actual problem is even more fundamental than the wrong size track: Germany simply did not have enough trains to support the operation. Between military movements on other fronts, keeping both military and civilian industry functioning, enacting the Gestapo's plans for transporting undesirables to concentration and death camps, and trying to maintain at least a modicum of civilian service, the Deutsche Reichsbahn (German State Railways) were stretched to their limits even before Barbarossa began. The simple fact was that the total number of available locomotives and freight cars in the entire Reich came to less than half the capacity needed to adequately support Hitler's eastern push. And yet the railways were the only realistic option for supply as Germany also lacked adequate motorized transport or even horses, further compounded by the appalling state of Russian roads at the best of times and nigh impassable by Autumn making such overland supply agonizingly slow. The situation was so dire that the first Reichsbahn Minister was driven to commit suicide by the impossible demands placed on him. In short, Germany needed trains to keep their armies supplied and mobile, but there weren't enough trains to go around, and those that were available had to wait days or even weeks for engineering crews to regauge the track. All while under attack by Russian air power, raiding parties, partisan forces, and even Red Army armored trains.

There's another inaccuracy, 1. It wasn't called "Philippine Islands" when it landed. Magellan called it "Las islas de San Lázaro" because he discovered it at the feast day of St. Lazarus. In 1543, Ruy López de Villalobos sailed there and named it "Las Islas Filipinas" after Philip II of Spain, who was king a few years later (I Think). And then I think that when the Americans came to take it, they named it "Philippines".

@UndefeatableTwilightCatgirl
@UndefeatableTwilightCatgirl Жыл бұрын
@@infinitydancecompanyofficial Okay, it's not ABAB, but still, this whole song runs on only the second and fourth line of each verse rhyming. Just look at the first verse, for example's sake. There once was a man, his name was Magellan A Portuguese skipper, the girls found him cute He sailed with five ships to find the East Indies Then come back to Spain with a bounty of loot As we can see here, the rhyme is with the second and fourth lines - in this case, "cute" and "loot". Now we come to the verse in question: A great storm arose in the mighty Pacific The five little ships were diminished to three At last land was sighted, Magellan was happy But then someone shouted "Hey, that's Chile!" Which uses the same rhyme scheme as before - i.e. the second and fourth lines rhyme, but none of the others do. Hence, the rhyme is "three" and "Chile". Incidentally, this is the same rhyme scheme used in the folk song that this song's melody is taken from, "Git Along, Little Dogies". An example: It's early in the Spring, when we round up the dogies We mark 'em, and brand 'em, and bob off their tails Round up the horses, load up the chuckwagon Then, throw the dogies out on the long trail Again, "tails" and "trail" rhyme (kind of), but none of the other words do. I hope this helped and was clear enough.

Also, as people have pointed out, the part about spying on Lenin is inaccurate, especially since they show Lenin up and walking around even though by the time Stalin basically ran the U.S.S.R., Lenin was wheelchair bound due to a series of strokes he had suffered. The implication the song gives is that Lenin and Stalin were competing with each other when in fact, if this is when Stalin officially was the leader of the U.S.S.R., then Lenin should be dead.

Couple of points on the Stalin one, 1. The confusion surrounding the date 1928-1953, if we want to be generous, they may have picked 1928 as a year as this could be argued was when he fully consolidated his absolute, personal power. Remember the title above does not say 'General secretary' but "Soviet Dictator and Megalomaniac." As every student of Soviet history knows while functional democracy within the Communist Party was dead by 1921 after famous 'ban on factions' at the party conference that year, thus any party member who opposed any aspect of official party policy could be declared a 'factionalist' and expelled. Within the highest leadership body of the party however, the politburo, a formal majority was still needed to pass motions and make policy, resulting in even Lenin finding himself in a minority on occasion and having to submit to party discipline. So it was in the early years following Lenin's death, Stalin ruled as part of a triumvirate with the other prominent Bolshevik leaders Zinoviev and Kamenev specifically to outmaneuver Trotsky and the left-opposition who, while ideologically weaker and more prone to compromise than previous opposition groups in the party like the Workers Opposition, Workers Group and the Democratic-Centralsits, did represent the last genuine opposition group to the consolation of Stalin's personal dictatorship. The right-opposition that came later after Stalin had the state abandon the NEP and embark on forced collectivization of agriculture and rapid industrialization for example was little more than a passive economic pressure group that accepted the continuation of Stalin's personal dictatorship without question. So if the left-oppression, weak though it may have been, was the last serious opposition groping within the party challenging Stalin's personal authority and it was effectively smashed by 1927, then 1928 does sound like a reasonable year for this title as it was the first year there was no even semi-functional serious opposition to Stalin's dictatorship. 2. The line "Vexing the West with his communist plotzies" is strait out of the handbook of unhistorical cold war propaganda about the 'red menace.' Stalin, in embracing the ideology of 'Socialism in One Country' in 1924 strove to appease imperialism though using the massive political weight the Comintern had over the revolutionary section of the international working-class to hold back social revolution at every opportunity and can be seen particularly clearly in the case of the Spanish Civil War and after World War 2 where Italy was effectively in the hands of the Italian communist party following the collapse of the fascist regime but because it was agreed to fall within the 'Western' spear of influence he had the Comintern order the Italian CP to disarm the workers, end the occupations of the factories etc. True enough there was the absorbing of Eastern Europe into a series of buffer states between the Soviet Union and the West, but this was agreed at during the aforementioned talks on 'spheres of influence' not part of a 'communist plot.'

Even a primary source, Antonio Pigafetta, an Italian scholar who joined Magellan on his expedition and served as his assistant, keeping a personal journal, says the following in his 'Relazione del primo viaggio intorno al mondo' ('Report of the first trip around the world') (1524-1525): "An Indian hurled a bamboo spear into the captain's face, but the latter immediately killed him with his lance, which he left in the Indian's body. Then, trying to lay hand on sword, he could draw it out but halfway, because he had been wounded in the arm with a bamboo spear. When the natives saw that, they all hurled themselves upon him. One of them wounded him on the left leg with a large cutlass, which resembles a scimitar, only being larger. That caused the captain to fall face downward, when immediately they rushed upon him with iron and bamboo spears and with their cutlasses, until they killed our mirror, our light, our comfort, and our true guide. When they wounded him, he turned back many times to see whether we were all in the boats. Thereupon, beholding him dead, we, wounded, retreated, as best we could, to the boats, which were already pulling off." *Chieftain, not king. The pre-colonial Philippines has a different governing system from western Europe's monarchy system, and barangays (ancient equivalent would be tribes, modern equivalent would be mini-towns/munincipalities within a city) are governed by chieftains, though they aren't necessarily considered as "kings" of a barangay.

My version, with most accuracies: There once was a man, his name was Magellan. A Portuguese skipper, the girls found him cute He sailed with five ships to reach the East Indies fast And then come back to Spain with a bounty of loot Whoopi-ti-yi-yo, oh, finally, Magellan! Starting after approval from everywhere! Whoopi-ti-yi-yo, strong, brave Magellan, You’re lookin’ for how, because you know where! They crossed the Atlantic and spotted a country. Magellan was cold so decided to stop The place he stopped at would become Argentina, But at the time he named it a name we’d say is long Whoopi-ti-yi-yo, let’s move, Magellan Everyone knows there’s no time to despair Whoopi-ti-yi-yo, keep going, Magellan, Keep lookin’ for how, after all you know where! Though Magellan was still going into the Pacific The five ships had been diminished to just three Magellan decided to give a name to some waters Is it still like that? Of course not, now it’s Chile! Whoopi-ti-yi-yo, remember, Magellan, A route you’re lookin’ for, there’s no time to spare! Whoopi-ti-yi-yo, keep going, Magellan, Keep lookin’ for how, after all you know where! Took almost five months, but they crossed the Pacific. They spotted what’s now known as Guam closely Magellan stopped there to resupply his stuff He didn’t know he just barely touched the East Indies Ai yi yi yi, oops, Magellan! Your fun little journey's become a nightmare! Whoopi-ti-yi-yo, focus, Magellan, Keep lookin’ for how, after all you know where! They sailed due west to the Philippine Islands Magellan was pleased as he found tribes there thus He talked to the people that were in the tribes And then converted them to believe in Jesus But there was this one tribe that the King did not like They didn’t believe in the thing Magell’ said there So his gang and the other tribes started attacking it Magellan got off-track and thus hit by a poison spear Whoopi-ti-yi-yo, farewell, Magellan! Just barely touched the Indies, you poor sad sack Whoopi-ti-yi-yo, bye, ghost of Magellan We’ll hang with Elcano and sail the heck back!

I should say that "feasting like Ivan" was also an inaccuracy - while Stalin was certainly living a comfortable life while many under his regime were starving, he was known to be personally frugal and avoidant of excess. His one luxury taste seem to have been wine - besides, of course, power of life and death over others, which he seems to have relished. Certainly nothing comparable to the opulence expected of a Tsar.
