Yes. Just be honest. I have a video on the advantages of the passport. Maybe that helps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bl7UkGOklLx6kMksi=RzVq9EvJtpkbXYD7

Although I have been living and working in Germany for the past 42 years, I had decided that I would keep my American citizenship. I was born in the U.S., had an American dad (he died in Germany in 1983 at the age of 47). My mother was always a German citizen. She died 2011. Apparently, due to different online sources, I "automatically" have both citizenships. I get a "no" from the Landratsamt when I ask. With the reform of the dual citizenship, I was willing to try again. I received an email just now stating that I would have to wait longer and that I can't even apoly for a German citizenship without giving up my U.S. citizenship...?!?!? Either something is "automatic" or not. Should I just continue to wait? I really don't know what to think or do at this point.

Depending on your state, it’s not law yet. Some states apply Vorgriffsregelung when they apply laws that are yet to be enforced. Also, on a regular day you have to give up one citizenship latest by 18 or 21 years. So after 21 years you can’t have both. That’s why they said no. But now you can apply. It’ll take a while anyways.

Hello Phoebe⚘️ Thank you very much for your quick reply. You have the gift of explaining complex matters in a simple way...so that they can be easily understood. Especially the part of "automatically" having a dual citizenship and having to decide on one, upon becoming an adult, has NEVER been explained to me by anyone but you - but makes perfect sense to me now😊 The being able to understand why things are as they are, has brought about an inner peace and clarity to me. You have helped me and others more than you may realize. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, your experiences and your gifts with us. I am so glad that I found you on KZbin, you are such a blessing❣️

Do we have to have PR to apply for citizenship?

No just the legal stay and required amount of years

Listen, the Bundesrat has to vote a simple majority for the approved bill to pass into law. Duly signed by scholz So please do not file till after May. Nothing is in force yet. If you zealously file now. And you send in your application well the old law is still applicable. Just ensure thar in the neantime, you get your documents ready. Translated and certified at your various embassues. Prepare an extensive c.v, take a language course, and do your citizenship test. They still count and know the proper email address to apply for your citizenship. Some states send you your forms or you are told by an automated email response to wait one year but well some people waited 2-3years and we have 20-30k applicants before you. Be polite, write dont call if you dont speak very good german. Maje sure you are nit receiving aid, kindergeld and unterhalt exempted. Anything else. Try not to nake mistakes. In your application. Be prayerful and check email often. But i would create a new email for this purpise so you wont miss their response. I think i covered everything.

Being born in Germany alone isn’t enough reason for German citizenship. At least one of your parents should be German
