Need this but with Yohji, it’s borderline overwhelming to get into these labels with so many sub-labels, you don’t know where to start

if you go to their theshop website, you can click into each sublabels and there will be a short description of that label.

What is worth also mentioning is that Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe spotted Jacquemus, who used to work at the CdG flagship in Paris, and also the Dover Street Market Paris brand incubator with ERL, RASSVIET, Yotuhs in Balaclavas and more

cdg wallets are underrated. from the zippers to the durability. the color choices too. if you took out the logo on the front or insides of the wallet you can still tell its cdg.

Didn't cover the original Noir line from 87 (before Kei Ninomiya) , Girl, Shirt Girl or Speedo! (yep that's the swimwear line) Kidding lol, this is great Reggie - there's not many places to get an overview of the Comme universe, so I think this will be a helpful resource for people. Would love to see the same done with Yohji and his sub labels or even Undercover.

Speedo isn’t a line. It’s a collaboration.
@jcg_0013 жыл бұрын
@@genesis2187 it was a ongoing collaboration - it had multiple seperate releases/collections. It's just as much a line as CdG Beatles or Eye Junya was. I think Wikipedia even cites Speedo as a line.
@genesis21873 жыл бұрын
@@jcg_001 I personally see it more as a Nike or spalwart kind of relationship rather then it being an actual ‘line’.

I think Comme des garçon doesn’t have too many sub labels but instead it’s exciting to see so many choices to pick from, and regardless what you choose you feel a deep connection with the clothes and feel that cdg magic. Honestly finding cdg items in any label is such an amazing feeling. Also please do a wth for fragment design, I would love to understand it more.

Great video but you missed Girl! 😁 Also since you dove into DSM, a future fun video might talking about their stores like Trading Museum, guerilla stores, the Aoyama main store (which has some exclusives), Rose Bakery, and others just to see how Rei has innovated around the shopping experience.
@THECASUALco3 жыл бұрын
yeah a soon as it was filmed and edited I told myself "We missed Girl..." As far as Trading Museum, Rose Bakery, and guerilla stores, I been to them and they are amazing... It's just we would love to do those onsite but according to Kawakubo and co I need a press pass. Especially Trading Museum, thats one of my favorite installations.
@vmanor3 жыл бұрын
@@THECASUALco yes! I love going to the Roppongi and GYRE stores. In my mind it's a mini-DSM but that isn't quite the right description either, as they sometimes sell archive and show more prominent displays of past and current collections the way a museum might, really putting the clothing forward.

Rei Kawakubo’s and thus Comme des Garcons’ genius is not well understood by the western world or at least goes underappreciated. The only reason the brand is known by people is the Play line, which isn’t a bad thing, it just doesn’t represent what the label really stands for. Kawakubo really jumpstarted Japanese fashion and brought it to the forefront of fashion which I am so happy about. It’s one of my favorite brands because it’s never afraid to shock the world yet again. They want the designs to be their way and if people don’t like it, then so be it. They will change their minds in 5 years hehe.

2:12 It is possible that she was being ironic when she said that. When Rei went to college, her mother decided to go back to the work force, but Rei's father said no. So she divorced him and did what she wanted to do
@THECASUALco3 жыл бұрын
There’s no way to know this kind of information except that her father was a student of Fukuzawa Yukichi who is credited with being one of the founders of modern Japan. Fukuzawa was also a reformer who was CERTAINLY a champion of women’s rights. Fukuzawa was also the founder of Keio University where her father was an administrator. So using all that information I would suspect that Kawakubo wasn’t being ironic at all. For all we know there were other reasons why a divorce might of happened. Keep in mind as well that it was INCREDIBLY difficult for women to divorce in Japan post war well into the 1970s. Essentially Kawakubo’s father had to agree to it, which would mean that he probably WAS a champion of women’s rights by “allowing” it at all. One thing is clear however, we often take the narrative that we feel most comfortable with but my philosophy is to always piece together the story through all the context and apply it to every factor; whether that is the culture, the time period, and the pertinent information that likely reveals the truth. In the case of Rei, she’s always been quite “matter of fact” so while I don’t know everything the information plus her disposition leads me to believe she was being truthful.
