I grew up in the 80s congregation and so many was not given privileges in the hall due to beards. I'm still upset about this, even after leaving 15 years ago. Next they will be celebrating Xmas and smoking!

I've mentioned it before but I'll mention t again: it was "new light" that finally convinced me the "truth" was a load of nonsense. 31 years ago. There's only so much flip-flopping that I can take - but apparently it takes a lot more flip-flopping for others to eventually see sense - if ever!

I believe that. I think they only know to just hang on which is why all the emphasis on staying alert. Just maintain that level of paranoia until you die and you've won the game. Most of them can't explain their own doctrines because they're just irrelevant to what they're asked to do, which is simply obey.

I came in in 1975. You know the "year when it would happen". Then it was going to be in the 1980's. Then I found out all of the other "years" like 1844, 1888, 1918, then back to 1914, then 1925, then during WW2. I left and found out that Christ is the answer, not some great fake corporation.

A question for Lloyd. Grew up in Leeds. NEVER heard of brothers having problems over wearing beards ok not many but there were some. I went to Bradford university in 1979 and no elder ever spoke to me about it. Were they just slack in Leeds or is ut that they were just stricter in USA? What was your personal experience?

The Revelation of John belongs to the literary genre of Apocalyptic literature. This genre is attested within Judaism since the 3rd century BC. Stephen Lett is really the best they can boast in terms of acting ability. Exactly what is he talking about, what's the bottom line of the received direct instructions from God, next week, next meeting, next assembly, a new light will be explained with correctly explaining the last announced new light. Everything taught in my time (I'm 66) up until 2017-20 was still kinda understandable and same, ( I got "removed" around 3rd time they claimed file says 4th, lol 2016-17 by going myself to repent my sins) anywho, now they're rewriting verses to explain their teachings from that horrible gray bible) or have they rewritten any in scary good ol' Revelation or did Jehovah tell them to leave that particular book alone, it speaks for itself. What is he trying to adjust as far as the anointed and the end. I hate them being so outright disrespectful about the anointed. I can't stand their indecisive prattle. Why doesn't anyone speak up.

The Watch Tower Society likely showed the Christian cross to make a mockery of mainstream Christians who are "venerating a pagan idol"...even though non-JW Christians largely don't venerate pagan deities, unless maybe they practice Afro-Caribbean religions like Vodou or Santeria, where they blend elements of Christianity (particularly Roman Catholicism) with elements of Afro-Caribbean religion, then they do. Although, they are in the minority (but are probably still growing numerically, though probably not in hugely significant measurments) within the global Christian community with their religious syncretism. Witnesses often complain as to why a Christian would wear a symbol of an instrument of torture to show their devotion to Christ. To them, it would be like wearing a symbol of a gun on your clothing when a gun was used to murder your child. I'm an atheist, but I recognize that the Christian cross has a more hopeful meaning to most Christians. For many Christians that take comfort in seeing media images of the cross or a crucifix depicting a dying Jesus -- it's a symbol of God's forgiveness of sins, the idea that one can be redeemed through accepting Jesus as one's personal Lord and Savior. A symbol that the achievement of eternal life -- shown through belief in Christ's resurrection from the dead -- is possible. I get that. Now, I may not necessarily agree with it, but I can understand why the cross would be appealing for many Christians.

@jeffnoble9757, Church attendance and denominational membership is declining in America, but people aren't flocking to the Jehovah's Witness faith in droves either. Many of the problems that some of these folks might have with other dogmatic conservative Christian denominations, for example, those issues they have definitely wouldn't be improved if they were to convert to the Witness denomination. I don't know if there is a one true religion, but if there is, I still may not join it if I find it's moral framework and logical framework to be problematic. Howver, if there is a God, even if I don't worship that being because I might not agree with that deity's moral views, I would no longer consider myself an atheist.
