Thank you Fern, definitely support doing less haul/bringing in less new plants next year. Instead focusing on the collection you have whilst downsizing them or even 1 in and 1 out would be great. I’ve been trying to do that too. Really lets you see the full potential of each plants that you are growing instead of always being like I want this and I want that.

I have to share my Alocasia Black Velvet story. It was my very first Alocasia. I bought it on sale for, like, $4. It was petering out. Yet, it was stunning: the shiny White veins contrast the deep blackish green leaf blades. It turned in to a mush within a week in my house. I checked and I thought there was absolutely nothing left. I blamed root rot. I reused the soil and dropped it in the bottom of a slightly bigger pot. I topped that slightly bigger pot with more soil. Time flies. In late May this year, I was trying to put something into the bigger pot, so I dumped the soil out. Somehow, the bottom soil refused to come out. I looked at it, something strange: a White shoot was protruding from the soil, as if there was a plant in the bottom half of the pot. I already forgot what I did. So I took the root-ball out and planted it back into the original pot. Yes, it was the "dead" Alocasia Black Velvet which was coming back from nothing left early in the year! It eventual grows large and happy under my care. So, Alocasia Black Velvet may melt and disappear around December. It may look like a root rot case. There seems to be nothing left in the soil. But if you bury the pot under soil, and check next May. It may have resprouted like mine.

I went to a local plant convention and got an alocasia black velvet pink for only 150€ and I found two corms in it! I try very hard not to be a helicopter plant parent but one of the corms already has some teeny tiny roots!!!

I bought a small Syngonium - Red Arrow. I heard they are not very easy to grow. I also managed to propogate from a leaf ZZ plant - Akebono. So exciting. Loved seeing all your wish list plants. I love and support your reflection at the end of the video. That was my plan for 2024 and let me tell you, it felt so nice and refreshing. I think I only bought one plant that was on my wishlist for years and was at a great price (for some reason I’m obsessed with philo rio, that’s the one). That’s it. I got to focus on my ongoing collection and enjoy it more closely. I think you’d enjoy it 😊 challenging that capitalist drive we all carry with us and living a slower, more conscious plant life 🌱

I did get several new plants this year... mostly hoya lol. But the plants I'm loving the most right now are my 2 monstera albo! I grew them each from 1 leaf cuttings I purchased about a year and a half ago. They're so gorgina! My favorite atm. Proud of the growth I helped them achieve. But I feel the same way. I've been so blessed and lucky yo get so many wishlist plants in 2024. I also got a philodendron vechii which has given me 2 gorgeous huge leaves since June.... It's been a slow grower but when it puts out a new leaf they're epic! Philodendron patricia is on the top of my 2025 wishlist. Fern, yours looks so pretty!

I had had a pink princess on my list for last Christmas but by husband had admitted to not being able to find in where I said it should be. So we were out doing other shopping and I saw this teeny little $7.98 silver sword. I’d seen it on your channel but it never enchanted me like it did you. However, seeing it in person…wow! Merry Christmas to me! It was happy on its little chopstick for a couple months until I saw it looking like it wanted to grow aerial roots. I put it on my first moss pole and the thing is three feet tall with mature leaves and needs to be extended (or something 😅). Thanks for inspiring this happy plant. My husband and I have had so much fun growing it and watching it change.

I slowed down my plant buying this year, but still managed to bring home probably a dozen new succulents or cactus in smaller 2 to 3 inch pots. As my collection is grown, I’m being more intentional about what plants I bring in, interesting ones that stay smaller longer are definitely a bonus

I appreciated hearing you reflect on how you feel like you've hit sort of a threshold for what you can take care of. Your home and plants are SO beautiful but I honestly don't think I could handle so many! Especially when you get sick/burnout hits. It's definitely fun kinda shopping your home in a way by looking at what you have/getting plants that catch my eye but at the end of the day you're just a human with a capacity like the rest of us 😅 I keep reminding myself that if a plant doesn't make me excited then it needs to go. That being said, I am pretty new to my plant journey and have picked up quite a few rad wishlist plants this year: passiflora colinvauxii (from benjiplant), dioscorea elephantipes, monstera acacoyaguensis, monstera BMF, anthurium pallidiflorum, pings (esseriana and florian), and I set up some aquatic christmas moss in a DOOA tank with terra base. I want to get a feel for some of what I have before adding any more but would loooove some of the begonia you've mentioned (maculata, ferox, paulensis), a platy. willinckii yellow moon, and to explore bonsai you can keep indoors like jade or a brazilian rain tree. I've honestly been super surprised that you don't have any platycerium! They can be tricky but are so dang beautiful.

I just added my first unrealistic plant to my wish list and it's a Philodendron Joepii Variegated. Obsessed with the leaf shape, but the price is a NO GO haha. I also found a Hoya Insularis on plant Haven Toronto and I can't get over the vanilla bean leaves and alien looking blooms. I've never ordered plants but that'll definitely be the next one I get.

So happy for you that you got/received so many wishlist plants this year! Really appreciated the intro, keeping it real 😊. Comparing plants or collections (or attained plants) makes noone happy really Those are some gorgeous plants! Thank you for the show and tell 🪴🪴🪴 I wonder if the reason that some plants are more difficult to find is that people are growing them out? When selling plants, for me its usually only the ones that are propagated because something broke off, or ones that on second thought don’t fit me… There are many more in the house, they could be sold as cuttings or propagations, but I prefer to just grow them out and enjoy them in stead of seeing if people online who I don’t even know happen to want cuttings 😅 I approach my “wishlist” differently lately… I call it an “interested in” list now 😂 And then when I feel like it is time for a different plant, or a few of them… I look around and see what kind of space there is available. Then first shopping the existing collection, maybe something is already here that is hiding somewhere and suits that space? And then checking the “interested in” list if there is space left. This way it doesn’t become a list that needs to be checked off (like chores) and for me personally that is more fun 🎉 The focus has shifted from “what are all the things I want/need to get” to “what do I want there, in that spot”. (Sometimes I do still lose myself in enthusiasm and buy some Hoya cuttings without having a specific place for them in mind 😅) For you as a content creator things will obviously be different, some trendy things (read plants) perhaps need to be reviewed in order to inform people about them. Just sharing in case it is interesting 😊 listening to your outro I guess you have reached a point where you are happy with what you have and that is amazing in this world where everything tries to make you want to get more of everything 😅 And haha yes… there are so many nice plants out there, cant have them all 😂 Fav purchased plant this year.. there weren’t many.. I think I am most excited about Hoya sp Kalimantan (its like Hoya Spartioides but with a different flower). Its a recent purchase and a cutting, so hoping it will root soon! 🌱 I did a semi-no-buy from April to December. Just to calm down. For some people no-buys will cause a splurge at the end, so mine wasn’t a hardliner one. If I see something amazing (not just something nice) for a decent price I am allowed to get it, but that hasn’t happened from my last purchase in April to December. I think maybe Ill allow myself to buy up to 5 new ones twice a year or so? While constantly re-evaluating the ones that are already here 😊

I have a question. How often do you find yourself watering when using Molly's Aroid Mix? Do you find it easier or harder to tell when water is needed? I just repotted two new monsteras with it. They were in super heavy gross soil so I hope changing it out doesn’t go into too crazy of a shock. But they are both in mollys now however I feel scared I won’t be able to tell when they need water now 😅😂

I finally bought my begonia sarawak and it’s all I can do to keep it alive.. I don’t know how you manage with all those incredible plants.. I am wondering if Ineed to get rid of most of my Hoya because halt the time I can’t tell if they’re alive.. Ecuagenera California sells seedlings for 30-50 US dollars. They sell out pretty quickly however they restock very often!! Hope you can snag one for yourself 💚

I’m into de-influencing for the new year. Be patient and let the plants I have grow. I’ve been burned a few times by Canuck plant shops, and it adds up to hundreds and hundreds of dollars plus time invested to try and resurrect sad cuttings and iffy imports. Plus my space is limited and if all the plants I have get big I have a problem 😂 so I appreciate less “haul” style videos . I do like to see the stuff people find in thrift stores for their plants. Also since Etsy takes a portion of the shipping fees I’m avoiding that platform like the plague

I know it’s hard to get front facing vertical lighting, but I’ve noticed a lot of creators putting the barinas on their shelving units towards the front rather than the middle of the shelf.. or vertically on the front bars of the shelving units.. if that makes sense. I know it’s not much of a forward increase but it’s something. 😅❤

@ they really aren’t like that all the time, they are amazing babies all the tjme. They get their zoomies (which is completely normal) early in the morning when my partner leaves for work! They chase each other and hit it by accident, they never mess with my plants, EVER!!! I usually take them outside for their cookie time.

If it helps, I also have limited space (900 sq. ft.) with only north facing windows 🙄 and I thought I wouldn't be able to do indoor plants because I didn't have room or like the look of most grow lights, but Amazon has some really great small space options such as clip and clamp lights with goosenecks. Two months later, I'm super happy I've been able to bring in Hoya and epipremnums with attractive grown lights that actually also add extra light to my very small space. Maybe worth a look... Best to you.🪴❤️

@ I have many growlights, without them I don't know if I could even have a monstera in the corner of the room 😅 The main problem is also that I live in the attic, half the walls are sloping and not suitable for anything. So as much as I can so much in me grows, but looking at it realistically, they will never be able to get their full potential. Hence the decision to downsize 🙂

i also love my frosted heart, dont have the variegated (yet?) but the frosty one is 🤌 for sure. ive been on a bit of a no buy, trying to expand my IRL plant friends instead so i can maybe trade for things, although i have to confess i did give in to a black friday sale at bros with hoes. other than that though, just trying to get the babes i have to thrive and learn as much as i can from them. which is hard bc in the us we have palmstreet and the sales are so good. still, though, ive been trying to save up first, instead of budget it in like i was earlier this year. if that makes sense? anyway, love you and your collection, i live my wishlist plants vicariously hahaha
