These are essentially the only plugins I use now: • EQ: IIEQPro - DDMF • Compressor/Limiter: DC8C - Klanghelm • Reverb: Cinematic Rooms - Liquidsonics • Reverb: Valhalla Room - Valhalla DSP • Delay: Valhalla Delay - Valhalla DSP • Saturation: SDRR - Klanghelm • Multi FX: BYOME - Unfiltered Audio • Ducker: Trackspacer - Wavesfactory • Master Comp: MagicDeathEye Stereo - DDMF

I also do not like subscription models at all. I’ve moved from Pro Tools to Digital Performer and couldn’t be happier. I also moved from an Audient ID14 interface to the MOTU M4 and the DAC sounds so much clearer, natural, better depth, better stereo image, better preamps, less latency...the M4 is an AWESOME little interface.

You bring up a very good point. Since moving in May of this year I haven't set up my recording PC. Instead I am using my MacBook Pro. A lot of my stupidly huge collection of plug-ins are PC only. To be honest I don't miss a lot of them. My Fabfilter bundle works, so does my Slate and iZotope stuff works as well. I like to participate in a monthly mixing contest for Reaper users and the rules are limited to using only stock Reaper and JS plug-ins. To be honest, I can get a great sounding mix using just those plug-ins. I now understand that to be useful a plug-in needs to satisfy one of two criteria, it either needs to save time or provide character. If it doesn't do one of those, I don't need it!

White Sea, I'm a huge fan of your videos. As a computer engineer and software designer of 20 plus years, I can most assuredly say, having a stable OS with reliable software is almost a unicorn in the IT business. Especially if you're running the latest and greatest updated versions. If you really want stable, you'll have to adopt the same methodology as most government agencies around the world do business. None of the big players (including military defense systems) are running anything relatively new. Most are between 3 - 5 years behind the technology curve. So, the aim would be a machine that is at least 3 years old with compatible software that NEVER goes on the web! A dedicated stand alone that is optimized to your specific needs. That is attainable and practical. All other scenarios leaves one chasing their proverbial tail over one issue or another.

My M1 Big Sur mac also regularly had the pink/magenta screen crash. And that's without using any 3rd party drivers or external devices attached. This is on a very basic used for internet only M1 MacBook Air. Issue seems resolved for me also after the 11.3 or 11.4 Big Sur update. Just wanted to note that I don't think it was really related to your driver/external devices but was a core MacOS Big Sur M1 issue up until recent. The driver/external devices just may have exacerbated the issue to crash more frequently but it would have happened anyway. Glad Apple fixed it. Also appreciate this video. I've been starting to strip back my plugins to what comes with my DAW of choice, and have just a few 3rd party plugins from FabFilter and Valhalla and ditch all my subscription based software.

My only issue is aggregate audio devices are awful on PC's but apart from that really loving the switch. It's kinda liberating being away from Apple's ever growing walled garden too.

I use a Windows PC (self picked components, core i5-9600K with 32 gb of ram) and an iPad. My biggest gripe with Windows is that we’re still stuck with the ancient ASIO standard. It’s great when you’ve got native hardware drivers for an interface (such as my Steinberg UR-242) but it becomes a different story when you want to record from a USB mic and an interface at the same time. Then it’s back to less ideal solutions such as generic ASIO drivers which use WDM drivers under the hood. For some reason inputs 3&4 of my interface only work with the ASIO driver, and are not seen by the standard windows WDM driver. When I connect that same interface to my iPad, all 4 inputs can be used simultaneously without needing to install a driver. This is something Microsoft should fix in Windows 11. Wasapi has such a good basis, but it’s these little details that make me look at the M1 mac mini even though my custom built pc has more I/O and expandability options. Sadly windows 11 would force me to give up on my legacy boot mode having to reinstall everything from scratch. The disadvantage of the M1 mac mini would be not having a built-in Blue ray drive which I still use a lot. If I could only buy a motherboard with an M1 chip and built in a pc case….
@TheBlackMP3 жыл бұрын
@@dykodesigns Well, that might be the reason I have no problems with Windows: I use external RME audio interfaces with dedicated drivers.
@dykodesigns3 жыл бұрын
@@TheBlackMP I use the native Yamaha-Steinberg driver when possible (which is very stable) and it works well with Cubase, but it’s the odd situation when I want to record a voice over for a video, I have to use a Yeti Black usb mic as I don’t have an XLR mic yet. So, I use the FL studio ASIO driver for these cases, but it’s not ideal. There’s just something cumbersome with ASIO at times, it’s powerfull, but it’s the long in the tooth late 90’s architecture of it that becomes a limitation. It was invented long before USB audio and multi-client use cases existed and Steinberg never bothered to improve it in that area. It’s a dinosaur from the Windows 95 / MacOS 8 era, designed from that era’s perspective on audio hardware and operating system limitations. It was great for that time period. ASIO disappeared on the mac platform a long time ago because of Core audio. To me, I just have a love/hate relationship with ASIO because of this. I want WASAPI to be better, a native technology that is more integrated with the OS. I wish both Steinberg and Microsoft would see this and get together and improve it. To me, Core audio seems to have the best of both worlds. To summerize: we need a better way to aggregate audio devices in Windows.

If it's still an X86_64 only plug in, as you can see it called in the list, it will STILL run, but using a thing called Rosetta 2 on M1 Macs. It still runs. It still runs on AMD64 Reaper. It's just that it hasn't be re-compiled to be "optimized" for M1 yet...but they still run. If you go on in the video to 6:20 you see him talking about his elysia alpha compressor where he says "it's not native on Apple silicon", yet it IS running. You can even see the title of the window saying (x86). He DOES say he has performance issues with that plug-in because it's not ARM64 native yet, but that's it. It does still work.

The solution is simple: Don’t turn off your Mac simply put it to sleep.

man, that was a boring list. basically fabfilter budle plus a hand full of other popular ones. not even a single free plugin and nothing i didn't know yet. no secret weapons. nothing perculiar that says "this is for my special character". i get it, a streamlined workflow for transitioning setups. but... not my vibe. or is that just a mac-thing, because slightly older plugins constantly break on these systems?

There is no secret weapon 😉
@Beatsbasteln3 жыл бұрын
@@Whiteseastudio i don't mean it in the marketing sense, where they call it secret weapon to make it stand out from another product that just does the same but with a different interface. but i mean the real secret weapon. the one that only works for you, because that's your style. like some really perculiar phaser that you always throw on supersaws to get a special cloudy sense, or something like that, which would go a little beyond "yeah some eqs and some compressors"

@@Beatsbasteln bruv hes a mixing engineer not a producer duh
@Beatsbasteln3 жыл бұрын
@@aabc yeah, i get it. mixing engineers are not supposed to use modulation effects or stuff like that because it's too creative instead of just technical. not my philosophy but each their own or something. there could have at least been some reverbs, don't you think?
@aabc3 жыл бұрын
@@Beatsbasteln umm honestly even if a mixing engineer wants to be creative generally the clients disagree remember its not the mixing engineer's song it his client's and so he doesnt have the creative freedom even if he wants to be creative the client would prolly disagree because its their song and vision and their production so yes generally mixing engineers dont use those creative tools but I get ur point theres no loss in having some creative fx as well
