True dat! Just something to remember, you will lose a couple feet on your dive not being tight on the bill.
@bradleyrussell1973
@bradleyrussell1973 8 ай бұрын
Disagree. The snap is on the same plane as the line would be if it were direct tied. Depth is dictated (among many factors), by where the line tie is attached to the lip. This is no different than a split ring. Theoretically, you should be able to stack split ring after slpit ring, multiple snaps, and even a swivel or two, without affecting depth because of not being tight to the eye. However the weight of all that hardware would affect depth VERY VERY SLIGHTLY, say a couple of inches or so. If you still are convinced, simply remove the split ring on the crankbait, that will bring your not about 1/4” closer to the lip. I’ve never had any negative effects of fishing snaps other than them picking up tree pollen and a little extra trash occasionally, but that’s trivial.
@MichaelGile19
@MichaelGile19 8 ай бұрын
@bradleyrussell902 thats fine. Ive ran pool tests with swivels and split rings, it changes depending on the angles. whatever gives you more incline on your bill is going to determine its dive rate. I ran it on 9 different brands, on 7 of 9, being on the bill gave reduce action but a deeper dive. Whatever you wanna make of that feel free

@whothegoofball4838
@whothegoofball4838 9 ай бұрын
Yes I use them for salt water too. But make sure that they are large enough for what you're fishing for. I always try to go as small as possible. But that can be a problem if you hook a tarpon, or a 40" snook. I have had them straighten them out before, thinking that I was just fishing for speckled sea trout. Then a 35 lb tarpon is launching out of the water only to break me off at the clip. Lol.. One of the only times I wish I just took the time to tie a loop knot, or just used a larger snap swivel. Uuggghhh

VMC crankbait snaps work best IMHO. Size 00 rated 30# for small crankbaits, size 0 for medium crankbaits and size 1 for big deep crankbaits, whopper ploppers, ect. Also, you don't need the split ring if you use a clip. I don't have a split ring on any of my crankbaits. You get the same action and reduce catching grass, ect. Thanks! Great tip Mikey!!

Agree with you almost 100% only critique is I have played with removing the snaps and what ends up happening is it actually makes the crankbait run untrue from time to time because the process of removing the snaps bends that little eye just my personal experience that's why I leave them on there plus I think it adds a little bit of clanging noise

*once you've found "the one" for the day just tie a loop knot straight to the line tie eye. Easiest knot to tie if you ask me and without the cost or hassle of hardware has the same action. @@IAmTheOriginalDanLook condescending Dan, I’ve been using snaps for years and caught plenty of Bass, Walleye, Trout, and Salmon on them in all sizes and I don’t plan to stop. You’re giving fish way too much credit with all your camouflage maneuvers when they reaction strike anything that moves. If a fish is willing to hit a piece of plastic with metal hooks and blades, I’m pretty sure a metal snap is the least of worries with presentation. About line saving, I’m talking in terms of switching out lures where I miss a topwater strike then switch out to a slow sink worm to throw them off guard and get them back. Maybe I want to test a new lure I just got or perhaps want to find a new color pattern. With constant reties, you can lose a lot of line clipping off tag ends along with abrasion from underwater structures. 1-2 snap and I can switch out for any lure instead of having to bring out my pliers and waste time retying every lure. Every second counts in fishing and if I only have 1 pole, I’m making the best of it. How can you argue it when I still catch all kinds of fish on snaps? Lol
