This was great, I think the one thing you missed out on at the very end though was explaining why dark lures work in lowlight conditions, because on the surface it sounds counterintuitive. My understanding is darker lures work in lower light because they will at least have a decent silhouette around them from the small amount of light that still manages to penetrate.

Nice video Tyler, most people I know just go to places they've caught them before and just chunk and reel and hope for the best. I like to know why a fish was there and figure out what made me catch them and try to develop a pattern to catch more. To me that's just as fun as actually fighting the fish.

I've caught some of the biggest bass here in Ontario using a worm on a bobber, from a boat. Cast into heavily weeded areas in shallow water, allowing the bait to drop 18-20 inches into the water so it sits just above the weeds. Not very sophisticated, but it does work, all seasons (except Winter) and during all parts of the day.

I have never seen any bass fishing video where the presenter demonstrated their knowledge of the fish like this. Congratulations on doing your research well. It always amazes me how many people who are so active in various sports know so little about the details. Examples of lack of knowledge: golfers - type of grass they play on, or how to properly swing a club; bowlers - weight of pins, oil patterns on the lanes, ball materials; baseball - basically all the rules; etc.

A lot of great information in this video, all broken down to beginner terms as well. Even with these tips they’re still in a broad sense. Bass fishing can be very difficult if you don’t know your waters. In calm conditions bass could feed on loud lures because they’re aggressive, you never know. Only way to know is to get out there and fish 🎣

I've been trying to learn about what type of lies and such all day! I'm taking my grandson (13) on our annual camping trip and last year we didn't catch anything! His parents don't fish and he's proud of saying his Grandma taught him. ❤️. He's super excited for this trip and I'm DETERMINED that's he is going to catch fish! The more videos I watched, there more Amazon hunting I did, the more confused I got! The more videos you watch the more differing the opinions are! Who's right? Finally your video laid it all out, and helped me to be able to figure it out no matter where I am, and what the climate, what I need, instead of someone saying "use green worms with spinners" etc. it was easy to understand WHY to pick a certain bait, on a certain day, yadda yadda. I’ve been fishing for years, and this is one of the best, informative, all-encompassing bass video I’ve seen. You break everything down and make it so easy to understand. I have seen so many videos where the narrator quickly goes over stuff like water color/condition and bait and color selection. He’ll say the water is this condition and color so he will XYZ bait without explaining why. I still consider myself such a beginner but I always want to learn more and get better. I have learned a lot and I have been fishing for 50 to 60 years but the serious fishing came when I was in my early 20s. I use to fish Lake Lanier for most of my life. If you are fishing in certain rivers smallmouth will often come far up the creek, from experience in the upper Cumberland River and creeks in the area. Smallmouth will often spawn in calmer pools in the upper river areas, kentuckies love calm banks in deep spots on the river during the spawn every tree on the bank has a nice fish

I don’t particularly fish for bass but I notice some of these same rules apply for my favorite type of fishing, Carp Angling. The “location location location” rule is the exact same pattern Carp follow. You can have all the expensive gear, expensive bait and perfect rig but if there are no fish there you ain’t catching. But a can of corn in a hot spot will catch fish, maybe not the larger wiser fish but it produces bites. They like structure and features just like bass and the color chart makes 100% sense and I didn’t even realize it. I use pop ups and the colors, size, and scents all vary drastically. But one thing I did by accident and didn’t realize I was doing was what you suggested with vision. Carp have INCREDIBLY good eye sight for a “bottom feeder” and I noticed on stained or muddy waters bright colors like Yellow and pink get bites where as natural colors like browns or white usually don’t get picked up at all. The opposite works in clear water as a buddy landed a 18lber literally next to me off the bottom with a natural sinking Hookbait, while I sat silent for hours (literally) right next to him on a bright pink pop up in him clear water. So yeah man, thanks for the info surprisingly I learned a lot not just about bass but also other species I target.

Great video! The only nitpick I have to make is that lure selection part with the vertical/horizontal lures based on silent or loud water. I like to think of it as moving baits or reaction and finnese baits instead, or a slow approach compared to a faster one. In water that is "silent" you can be very successful with a "horizontal" lure like a jerkbait or swimbait and I wouldn't advise you to slow down unless you need to. And in "loud" water sometimes "horizontal" lures are not the best approach and you'd be better off pitching a black and blue jig into heavy cover, bumping it on wood or rock or whatever. It's a pretty big generalization but I understand why you did it to simplify for the beginner angler. Just know that lure selection is not a straight jacket and their are often multiple right ways. Tight lines 🎣

excellent high level summary, thank you. I am a “re-beginning”, less experienced, mostly inshore Gulf saltwater angler. But also hope to familiarize myself on freshwater also. I am enamored of the NED rig of late because I theorize that I could easily use it in salt and fresh, saving myself some extra lure money in the process. anyways, Tight lines to you! - a western central ‘third coast’ angler.
