Anyone else hate it when you dress up and someone goes " oh who did you dress up for? " boi I dressed up for myself.

Everyone asks me if I'm having a date whenever I dress the way I like. My answer always is "yes, and you know who it is."

In psychology and communication it triggers the feeling of double constraint. It's what stops people the most into doing new (and usually good) things, because if they do new things, they might break the homeostasis of how things go in their familly/friend circle. It blocks people from dressing up, it even blocks alcoholics from stopping drinking. Better explained in Pragmatics of Human Communication by Paul Watzlawick, Janet Beavin Bavelas and Donald deAvila Jackson. Very good blook.

i asked my female colleague the same thing and being the blunt german that she is, she just said: i just felt like it. i was so impressed by that, that the next day i put on a nice dress shirt, dress pants and jacket and went to work like that. of course someone asked me why i would dress up. i also answered "meh, i just felt like it". we are the only 2 colleagues dressing up 3 or 4 times a week for work and no one asks us anymore. it does so much for your confidence! after work it is crazy how authoritative you seem to look and how people react to you with respect in the supermarket etc.

I admire the courage of her. I've never really been into costumes, acting, fashion or any of the sort. I admire her for wanting to be seen and having that confidence. I often hide myself from the public to hide my deepest and darkest secrets under a veil, under an act, a display of my own kind but not of courage, out of fear.

In my middle-school years over 10-years ago I still remember this one girl who always dressed up a bit like a doll. I remember thinking she was a weirdo and I am not proud of my preconceived bias. Since then I've grown up to believe that it is really none of my business what someone wants to dress like for example. I think whatever makes you happy, as long as it is legal, go for it and do not let other peoples opinion of you define your reality.
