Lucía, every time I watch this video (only on the 4th time now--the last time taking 40 minutes to watch), I notice something that I've missed and I learn something new! If I watch 4 more times (at least), I will be speaking like Ricardo Montalban! The sign of a good teacher is knowing the subject material well. The sign of a great teacher is knowing how to present the subject material well. Lucía...the GREAT teacher!

Hi, does Spanish have "have been"/"had been"/"will have been" constructions?
@johncouch77853 ай бұрын
it is all explained very clearly and well. that doesn’t make it easy. imagine 20 tenses for each verb, times the number of verbs, then add in the irregular verbs. the numbers are impressive. yes, there are commonalities but to be proficient is a daunting task. and then add a few thousand vocabulary words….and then, the difference between literal language and the language that is actually spoken, uish
@holamydailyspanish3 ай бұрын
I think learning full sentences will help a lot! So you already know phrases to use in each situation and you'll learn the tenses and the vocabulary in context 😊 When you get more used to Spanish, learning more tenses and more vocabulary will get easier 😄
@MrSleepyhead322 ай бұрын
Learning each verb tense one at a time helps a lot. Brute force learning all the tenses for one verb at a time won't work. Learning one tense at a time lets you focus on the pattern and absorb it. I can use the simple present and the present continuous as I focused my time on picking up those. Since Spanish also is a pronoun-drop language, learning those tenses is crucial.
@brucea9871Ай бұрын
I don't think it's necessary to learn every tense in detail, especially when just beginning to learn Spanish. There are only a few that are used in everyday speech. In a Spanish learning video on another channel the commentator recommended concentrating on only 5 specific tenses when starting out; the present, the subjunctive, the preterite, the imperfect, and the conditional.

Hola Lucia, really appreciate this lesson, you explained these tenses in a way that makes sense! Just one I thing you might have missed is the negative imperative - such as ‘don’t speak to me’; isn’t that done using ‘no’ + ‘subjective present’, for example: ¡Habla español! ¡No hables inglés! for tu? Some of the tenses are really confusing for English people learning Spanish, but thanks for the examples 😊

¡Hola! En español, el "progresivo" no es un tiempo verbal. En sintaxis, lo analizamos como "perífrasis verbal", pero no pertenece a ningún tiempo. Es simplemente "Estar + gerundio".

The only time I have ever encountered the future subjunctive is when I was looking into my family history and I would read the wills of my ancestors in central America: “ en este mío testamento, dejo mi vaca Cleotilde junto con cualquier prole que llegare a producir a mi hijo Antonio.” Outside of that, I have never heard it being used in speech nor have I ever used it in all of my life either. How strange. You would think we would make use of it. We don’t though.

I like how in Argentina they dont use future tense and just say "Yo voy" like "im going to" tells a lot about local punctuality 😄
@brawndothethirstmutilator98482 ай бұрын
Future tense is used in Argentina. Ir + a + infinitive is simply more common in everyday speech. Majority of Latin American dialects show that preference. Your comment on Argentine punctuality is relatable though 😂

Video más genial. Pero por qué enseñar el préterito anterior y el futuro de subjuntivo? No hay ninguna situación práctica en la que un estudiante los utilizaría. Además, los aprendices del español ya tienen tantos tiempos verbales para aprender. No busco criticar, solo quiero entender por qué decidiste incluirlos.
@holamydailyspanish3 ай бұрын
¡Gracias! Los enseño porque este vídeo es una guía de TODOS los tiempos verbales. Hay profesores de español que necesitan saberlos, hay gente que se los tiene que aprender para los exámenes de nivel de español... Por eso los incluyo, si no, no sería una lista completa. Pero aviso en el vídeo de que no se usan en el español hablado para la gente que no estudia para este tipo de exámenes y que solo quiere hablar español 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
