Kenji getting teriyaki for himself and not just for the teriyaki tour the same day is hilarious

It seems plausible that the restaurant might save any remaining chicken and reheat it the following day for lunch. That could explain why the dinner portion was better

Yes! I've noticed this phenomenon at restaurants, and I'm not a huge fan of it.

I was at Honey Court once and the waitress let slip that the leftover white rice from each table is re-used into fried rice for the next day. Yes...I know...

@@sundarpichai940 I get it and not morally opposed (assuming the patrons left the rice clean), but I'd prefer not to know about it! Hopefully the fried rice is cheap...

Somebody Feed Phil is great food and travel program, but it's an even better spotlight of goodness and human decency.

Totally agree on the Snapple thing. When I was a kid I thought the same thing, that it was a big deal and way classier than soda.

The thing with this kind of fast food is that the time you buy it can heavily influence the quality. On slow day's the food can be lying there for some time resulting in over cooked or not as fresh foods. While during super busy time it can be a bit under cooked not given the attention it needs. Fast food places have their sweetspots time wise : )

This is a lunch standby for me and totally agree getting it later in the day is better. Never quite connected why but portions are huge and if I dont think ill have time to get dinner ill grab a 2pm portion over there.

This seems so fun, just visiting every restaurant of a type in a city, biking around. I'd totally try this if I lived downtown in a city.

I used to get the classy Snapple in a glass bottle to go with my convenience store cheeseburgers (or sometimes corn dogs) for lunch when I was in high school.

As a New Yorker, where I think Snapple kind of originated, the Original Snapple Iced tea, which I started drinking in the late 80s maybe, was super bitter and only a ton of sugar would make it drinkable. I always wanted to like it and never could. That being said, there are some newer brands like Pure Leaf (yes industrial too) is actually decent enough to drink the unsweetened one.

Yeah, for sure it tasted more bitter and had more visible precipitated tannins in those bottles in the 80s.

Monday is usually a slow day for restos, not that that should affect quality but oftentimes I find the best tasting food is produced right at the start of a “rush” period.

Hey Kenji, let me know when you want to come eat at The Shambles. My name is Andy and I run the kitchen there. We would love to have you, either for a video or just to show we appreciate your work on making Seattle known to the wider food world. Reply to this and will keep an eye out for it, or just call the restaurant. Great content, keep it up!

Also, I am younger than you…but I also remember Snapple as glass bottles (with little aphorisms on the lids). Havent bought one in a while, too bad they are generic and plastic as you pointed out.

Snapple used to make a flavor called Ralph's Cantaloupe Cocktail. 1993-1995. It was by far the best flavor they ever made. Then they got bought up my Coca-Cola and poof, it sucks now.

Last thought, been thinking of moving out to Washington state/Seattle since it would provide potentially great Japanese food compared to what I get to experience out here in Chicago. I love Chicago, still one of the best cities in my opinion, but I feel like Asian (especially Japanese) cuisine is better out west. Maybe I am just not looking in the right places though.
