All the things I love about Finland (and one thing I don't) vlog

August means gorgeous misty evenings, bats, mushrooms and moose in the fields. But also a much less appreciated little bugger...
Regarding my current outdoor shower, I dream of one day having a little pond here, big enough to take a dip in. Ofc filled with waterlilies. Just need to figure out how to make one fit for Finnish weather.

They say home is where the heart is. My grandmothers family immigrated from Finland over 100 years ago. They moved to the Mountains of British Columbia where I was born. Sixty years later I arrived in New Brunswick Canada. As I begin to hike with you and spend some time in the barn I look around and everything about the area is the same, same forest and collection of trees, same meadows, same barns and ponies, same whether, we are into mushroom season, and life would be somewhat different if we did not have those pesky deer flies. We also have a bug here called a no see um, they are the size of a pinhead, draw blood, and leave long lasting itch, normally travel in swarms. I moved here because it was 80% wilderness. Currently with all the conflicts our World is facing, I am dropping into various Countries. One thing that I have observed is a whole lot of Beautiful people living in beautiful lands. I changed philosophies just over 10 years ago. I believe that our World is one great big Play Ground and that we are ALL called to come out and Play Together. We play when we do ONLY what we Love where we Love. When you jump into Love you very soon understand why it takes us many lifetimes to explore. There is only one catch, one basic understanding, all things fear must be left behind, and for a short time fear will feel neglected and nag you. Do the same as you would with any pesky fly, swoosh it away. In the mean time Live on Earth as though You were in Paradise. My Love today drove me all the way to Finland where a part of my Spirit resides, and living here some thousands of miles away we are all neighbors and friends...namaste

The cloudberries were great this year, I’m now slowly picking blueberries. Everything is behind up North here. The mushroom season is looking good! The intense mosquito seasons have been shorter for the last three years but yes those biting flies! Lots of them about here

I don’t have any experience mushroom hunting, but I have a coworker who does it every season in the Sierra Nevada mountains here, and I’ve learned that up in the Cascades in Washington and Oregon there are fiercely guarded mushroom areas and plenty of poaching, too.

I had a painting, not sure how I got it. It was of lakes and islands in Northern Finland. The perspective was from above looking obliquely to the horizon. Your misty beginning had the colours and mist on the water look from it. It disappeared in one of my many moves over my 7 decades. That drew me into your video and a subscription. Then when you were hunting Black Trumpets it evoked something I have been thinking of recently. I'm interested in Pre-History and the lives of humans 30,000 - 100,000 years ago. One part is the activities of women who were responsible for finding the growing things and small food items that sustained the family when men were unable to provide meat. There was lots in the video to capture this old man's interest. Thank you. DC

Yep I always leave the small ones, it's good mushroom-picking etiquette imo. But there's often someone here who comes and picks some spots totally clean. 🙄 Thanks to the root system they do still continue to grow in the same area though.

Lovely intro! What was that music? Beautiful horses! I thought it was a bit too early still for black chanterelles but you managed to find some. We also picked Chanterelles today. Loos like another good mushroom year. How is your health?

Thank you! 🥰 The song is called "Choir hymn" by "More than Family" on Epidemic Sound. Yep! A wonderful amount of chanterelles! The black ones have become my favorite. Health is ok, still a lot of mystery pains in the morning but it seems the warm weather and staying active keeps them away during the day. The doctor has suggested physical therapy next. Will try it but I doubt it will solve anything so I'm going to continue with a specialist in the private sector next since public healthcare seems to refuse to do an MRI scan on my joints. 😅

@@camillafjader Thanks Camilla! My favorites are the porcini but I have not seen any yet this year. I hope you het help with the pain before the cold months. The public health care that used to be so good has become a total joke. If your not half dead they wont even consider helping. I suggest you also try some alternative medicin. Take care!

@@stevenjohnson7086 The reason behind the non-functioning of the health care system is the cutting of funding and the increase in costs that slowly has been going on for decades. The shortage of nurses in Finland has also doubled, in just two years.

Bag shower? Trouble? I very clearly put the shower pump in the barrel where my rainwater gathers, partly because an outside shower is way more fun but also because the water is free as opposed to the running water inside. Not sure why someone would go through the trouble of writing such a ridiculous comment.
