The Witness says "You will see the Veil destroyed.", but as we learn from the ending of Lightfall and later, Asha's cutscene, the Witness never wanted to destroy the Veil, it wanted to link it with the Traveler. The Witness intentionally used Calus as a pawn to get the Young Wolf and their Ghost to go to the Veil, so the Witness could use Ghost to establish the link.

Biggest problem with this campaign is pacing. Forget how confusing it is, we jump into this thinking we have one shot at this and we have to hurry up, but then the Witness shows up and just looks at the traveler. Then, we need to get to the Veil before Calus, and then we head to watch tower and just talk. Then Calus finds the Veil, but he doesn’t actually have it. Then we need to destroy the radial mast before he uses it and we do… and that’s it. Then we have to go back to the veil and then we kill Calus and that’s it. Then our ghost does the Witness’ dirty work for it.

One thing is made clear though with the campaign, even for the pacing--- the Witness, even for its god-like powers, is afraid, because it seems to want the Final Shape to occur to end death itself by allowing only the strongest who overcome all obstacles in their lives to live forever, because it just has this nihilistic belief that life is nothing but pain, and yet it only keeps spreading pain and destruction in its ambitions. And it's abused the Darkness for that goal, not having proper balance like our Guardians have since we wield both Light and Darkness without any ill effects besides the power of our will. And we've seen too how the Witness has had to lie, manipulate, abuse, and threaten those to serve it or those that defy it, because for all its power, it is just a coward who can't work past pain. As Rohan told Osiris, pain isn't a hinderance. It just reminds us we're still alive. Still fighting. But the way the Witness acts, whatever pain it suffered before its metamorphosis into the monster it is now broke it, and now it is just a dangerous being threatening the natural order of the universe. EDIT: So I was off some with the Witness wishing to only let the "chosen" get what they desired if they submitted when it wanted to achieve the Final Shape.

We saw how when mankind first met the Traveler, even as it helped terraform the rest of Sol, humanity began to expand even further, growing in technology and science, allowing us to colonize Mars, Venus, and the rest of the planets in the system, while also allowing us to go beyond Earth before the Witness would come to Earth and try to link with the Traveler during the first Collapse. Even the Eliksni expanded their reach beyond just Riis after they were touched by the Traveler, even if they also had depended on it a good bit too, just as the Witness and its people had clinged too much onto it, while humanity wanted to understand the Traveler, *BUT* also wanted to see more of what they could research thanks to its gifts.

At the same token, it truly does seem benevolent towards it’s followers, in its own twisted way. It schools Rhulk essentially as a little Witness junior, builds a statue to Nezzy facilitating his resurrection by the traveler, and genuinely seems to want to provide Calus with purpose and uplift him. It was quite patient with Calus before he disrespected it. Such an interesting villain as it believes it is in the right and is acting for the good of all life, not just itself.

It was right in front of us this whole time. From the depiction of multiple hands at 0:16 to the faces of the race that sacrificed themselves to become The Witness at 1:14. I was trashing Lightfall's story because of how much certain things didn't make sense or was explained so I am really looking forward to Final Shape cs gawd damn, it was more planned than I thought.

You wanna see how far this was in front of us? The witness is described perfectly back in 2015. Describing the time after it enters the portal inside the traveler. Ghost Fragment: Mysteries 2 Ingress via dreams alone Things I saw inside A wild river and a broken dam (or maybe it's just the sea crashing through a narrow gap I can't be sure). Waves slam through the gap and where they hit the stone they throw up pillars of spray that pierce the mist and crash down in thunder. There's a giant in the cataract, trying to wade against the current, and I can tell it wants to reach the lever and pull the lever which will seal off the flow or maybe give it the sword, but the torrent throws it back so it just keeps its head down and tries to push on. I can't see the face but it breathes out white smoke. I feel for it hard. A world painted around the interior like a stranger Earth everted and glued inside itself but I don't believe this one it's too much like a metaphor. A switchboard or a train station, empty, dead (waiting). The tunnels branch off into infinity. I stare down one for a long time and see a pale worm move in hungry coils around itself. I think this one is the most likely although I might have brought the worm. An egg but I'm not sure if the broth inside is warm still, or if it's gone to rot, or if the warmth comes from the struggles of the tiny winged zygote or the bleed from the wound or the thoughts of something thinking very hard. A star I think. We count on stars as steady friends because they always rise and always shine but a star's a delicate truce: an explosion caught by its own mass so that it can't erupt and can't collapse. Thus I imagine the state of the machine might be. But one force or another has gone awry and now it rests here, snuffed and broken, waiting for the two rival forms of ruin to be set in balance again.

After looking at what little expression The Witness was making after watching the 6:55 scene on my Warlock (I watched it on my Titan and Hunter but never went further) I relayed to my other two brothers that The Witness almost looked disappointed at Calus for not taking this Disciple stuff somewhat seriously. I then said “I get the feeling Calus is going to do something stupid and The Witness isn’t going to be too happy about it”. Then 12:30 happens and the second The Witness snapped I thought to myself “Calus, there are strings that you are not meant to pull. That was one of them”. I then relayed to my brothers saying “Yup, I called it”.

Calus has everything he wanted, but his cup remained empty. The disciples are all selfish and not true students. They are glorified henchmen to be ignored, used, and disposed of by the Witness. If you read and listen to the other two disciples, you will find that they are just as much simps as Calus and equally selfish in their own pursuits. The only thing the Witness cares about is its philosophy and final shape. That is why it goes batshi crazy with cognitive dissonance when the Guardians reject it at the end of Final Shape and wound it.

Fun little detail, you can actually see where bungie inserted lightfall into the cutscene. The opening attack of the witness has the helm bring up a blast shield which is only shown to go back down after the ENTIRE dlc. They’d have us believe that the helm was just sitting there the entire time with the shield up not doing anything while we trounced around on Neptune. Logically, it would’ve made more sense for them to only put the shield up then drop it after the attack, where the witness would then go through the portal, kicking off final shape. However, due to their poor planning, they had to somehow insert an entire dlc story into that tiny cutscene

Its interesting how the Witness almost seems to address the Traveler with sympathy, rather than as simply an enemy. "This universe makes us all victim and perpetrator, you more than any other... Be free." Its like the Witness views the Traveler's giving of the light to living beings as some sort of horrible obligation that its confined into, and that it seeks to end the Traveler's suffering. The only times we see the Witness angry are when Calus talks back to him after losing the Veil, and when the Guardians continue to fight against the Witness in spite of the fact that they wield light and darkness. In short, its only when the Witness thinks that the other person should understand, but they still are acting like they don't. Its like an obsessional need to "win the argument" over light and darkness, and when other beings miss the point its trying to make, it becomes infuriated, but otherwise its calm and calculated.

I’m glad they cleared up that the Traveler was *not* trying to flee when it rose from the City. It was indeed preparing to face the witness once and for all. The witness said itself at the end of which queen that this time there would be no escape and the only reason it did the first time was due to trickery. When it rose from the city the black fleet was already halfway through the solar system, if the traveler was actually going to flee it would have done it long before that day.

I see a lot of hate for the Witness, but I love it. It is what I feel a being of darkness should be. It's subtle. My favorite moment is when Calus is calling himself beautiful, and the Witness asks for progress, then very quickly glances at the chalice in his hand and whispers "you have everything you ever wanted... emperor." It's pretty obvious that the Lightfall campain was just spliced into whatever they had originally planned for Lightfall. If you go from 4:45 to 13:05 the scenes flow flawlessly together. They just thought of a place holder and decided on the stupid Neomuna campaign focussing on Strand. This campaign was such a let down. They took one of the best final season cinematics with Seraph, which built up the tension so well. Then they interupt all that so you can go to Neomuna and have Nimbus taking the whole seriousness of the situation away and cracking jokes the entire time that are stupid. All while Osiris is shouting at you while sitting back and twidling his thumbs doing fuck all.

The original roadmap for the light dark saga was supposed to be three expansions. Lightfall was supposed to be the final one. But then Sony bought Bungie and they wanted an extra expansion. Clip out the fails to open portal part and go to 13:05 and its a flawless transition.

If protons do decay, the mass of a white dwarf will decrease very slowly with time as its nuclei decay, until it loses enough mass to become a nondegenerate lump of matter, and finally disappears completely. Yes, people *_loved_* to hate on _Thor: The Dark World_ but when that movie first came out it was *friggin awesome* and featured an end that reminded the audience 'Hey remember that purple guy who appeared during the mid credits of _The Avengers?_ *_Watch this space_* because shits about to get AWESOME!!!' Compounded with such hits the likes of _Captain America: The Winter Soldier_ and the first _Guardians of the Galaxy_ movie not to mention the *_rather mighty_* initial Phase 3 announcement and I mean...yea. There was a genuine sense that the MCU was going to build up to something incredibly cosmic and *_cataclysmicly AWESOME_* which indeed said shared cinematic universe delivered with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Those films were genuine events, the first of which we had seen since the likes of the _Lord of the Rings_ trilogy and the Matrix sequels back in the early 2000s. Nevertheless, Infinity War and Endgame came and went...and I don't know about you but the MCU is kind of feeling pretty darn *flat* these days. *_And I'm pretty darn sure I'm NOT alone in thinking that!_*

Nobody can make sense of the fact this campaign starts with Zavala, Ikora, Osiris, Mara and THE STRANGER, all magically together in a ship without explanation of why, they just stood there....Osiris left to Neptune, we left as well to help him....at the end we come back to see the rest of the group still in the ship... opened the window and the witness was still there....this campaign felt like it was part of The Final Shape and Bungie realized they could split it in 2 and get more money out of it.

There actually is an explanation for them all to be there. For Zavala , Ikora and Osiris do I really need to explain why? Mara played a main role in the season along side the Lightfall expansion. Elizabeth aka the Stranger was there because she was apart of the season of the seraph which led into the expansion. I understand that its annoying seeing them just stand there but tbh we can kinda let them slide simply because we've never fought a being like the Witness before. The Witness had no reason to move anywhere when its at it's destination. The Team just sitting on the same ship the entire time (except for Mara) makes sense as well because they can easily say they were monitoring the Witness.

First of all: i was very hyped for the witness in the lightfall campaign and i was very to fighting him bcs the cutscenes showed this.
