Hi Lulu, Regarding your blue cabinet door. Using small screws and a small chain, measure the length between the top corner of the inside cabinet and corner of the inside cabinet door at the preferred open position. Cut that length of chain and screw one end to inside cabinet wall and other end to inside of cabinet door. Door will only open the length of the chain. 👍

Hi Lulu, concerning your toilet seat. Don't cut the pool noodle in half. Make a slit halfway through as they will remain round and clip onto rim, and cut it to size of your bucket but the ends of the noodles to sit inside the edge of your bucket. I hope it makes sense. If not I can email you photos of what I mean xxx

Love your videos! I recommend that you don’t put the light switch on the bed leg. If you ever need to replace the bed or move its location, you will have to deal with moving the light switch. Instead, install the light switch above your head in a spot that you could reach from both locations where you will need to switch it on/off. It could be installed along that overhead rail where you plan to install the lights. Then you never have to worry about needing to move it.

I didn't think anyone was as detail-oriented as I am about setting things up to be efficient. So nice to find a kindred spirit! I've lived in a couple of small spaces over the years, and it is amazing the places you can find to store things. Even a comfortable lifetyle with all your chosen amenities can be organized to fit in a small space. As a single senior, I now prefer the simplicity of a cozy living area.. leaves more time and energy for fun and leisure! Go, Lulu!

Hi Lulu! You can make a cover so your food can cool by taking a lid (maybe from an older container, or if you have an extra one). Cut out the middle section - leaving the edge that snaps onto the container - and cut a piece of the screening to replace that piece you cut. Attach it to the “frame” (you’ll need to have made it a bit larger than the piece you cut) and you have a secure cooling lid.

those screens you buy are a rigid circle and are usually 12" diameter and I am limited to 11" of space in my cubby bins. so I want one that is not rigid and is foldable, or I can roll it up. I will make my own!!

For your bed, take a piece of ply wood, put the cross beams in and drill holes in the ply wood for air flow. This will give you a stronger bed structure and stability for your bed.

I used to have a flat screened pan cover. Don't know if they still make them. Also, for magnets for your back mosquito curtain...you could use magnetic strips. Maybe insert in the hems(?). I would put a sewn or crocheted wall pocket next to the bed for your tissues. It would be nice and sift if you roll into it during the night. As for the bucket toilet, I thought it might be uncomfortable so I got a folding camp toilet instead. Pretty much the same thing, but has a real seat and folds up very small. I got the tallest one I could find.

Lulu!! I have several things i have several suggestions. 1. On the "tissue and toothpicks" by your bed. What about using a soft sided eye glass case. And magnetize it to the metal wherever you need it. And if you bump it during the night, it won't leave a mark. 😅 2. The rear bug screen... what about using Tulle? Colors could match what you already have. Put a seam all around to prevent it from shredding. I would suggest using your portable shaed tent in the back and have it even more spacious. 3. The crystal edging might get a bit damaged with the pulling/pushing of the freezer in and out. 4. The purses hanging on each side of your headrest might attract unwanted attention. But, I LOVE the tin looking behind the seat. 5. Peg board instead of lattice for under the mattres. I think that's it. Im glad you're home safe and look forward to your adventures in Florida!

Lulu ~ for your toliet, if you keep the pool noodle whole, measure the circumference of the bucket, cut the noodle to size, then put a slice on the bottom of the noodle and fit unto bucket! That would stay in place and be more comfortable! Wish you well! ❤ Cynthia, Ron, n Dolly Dog

really so interesting. i’m comparing your van to Luann’s, is yours much larger? i love that you have a cooking area inside. Luann’s was more like camping out because she had to go outside to cook anything. i did notice that you at one point rested something on the lid of the cooler while cooking and i don’t know what that lid is made of but it seems like it would be good in a smooth vinyl if it’s not already, so it could be wiped clean and easier to move around on when you sit on it. love the crystal tassels for the side piece of the bed!

@donnapecoraro3126 . . . Luanne's van is longer than mine (my floor space if 4x7, hers is 4x8. they are both 4 ft wide in space. but I've got a higher roof which gives me a more spacious feel. also, hers is not a dedicated camper, she needs to disassemble the build and return back to passenger van, when her trips are over. by having it a dedicated camper, you can more easily set it up to be able to do everything inside.

Your blue cabinet door - screw a little chain inside the cabinet wall and put the other end on the back of the door. Small screws and some sort of chain you like. Crystals - I think it would look great on the front of the table. If it’s on the bed rail it will get in the way of pulling out the fridge.

Bedside commode liners have been a game changer for me. Turn everything into a gel and they take very little space. They are not cheap, but they are worth it. I love how you love to tweak. I love to always optimize things in my life. I had an older Transit Connect that I had to get rid of as I could not find a person to work on it mechanically, nor help me with some of the Van stuff. So frustrating when you are willing to pay and cannot find a person willing to work. I got a new Pacifica and am loving it too, but, because it is so new, I cannot tweak it too much, 🤣would love to put a few screws in a few optimal places, but alas, just cannot do it. Look forward to seeing your projects when they get done.

I've seen another van lifer with a Berkey that used leather belts from the thrift store to secure theirs. They cut it down to the size they needed, attached the belt to the wall and used the buckle to be able to secure it in place, or open the buckle if they needed to clean it. I have a travel size Berkey so I filed that idea away! I don't know if that might be an idea you can use or not, but maybe worth considering.

Two more considerations, you could use a magnetic and hanger strap for a door handle. Also, there are stainless steel hose clamps that are big enough to fit around your berkey, just put a small screw through it attaching it to your counter top. The band is adjustable so you can remove your berkey for cleaning. If you're worried about scratching your berkey, just line the berkey side of the clamp with a thin piece of foam or something to pad it.

LUV You & your adorable van! A few suggestions to address some of your issues. First I know how health consious you are so plesse don't use non food grade screen to cover your food as it cools. Large food grade grade mesh bags for making nut milk would be perfect. They don't take up hardly any space and they are washable. I use them all the time at picnics to keep the pests out. Your esthetics are so beautiful I would hate to see an ugly bolt to close your back door. How about an interesting antique cabinet pull or you can use a sturdy piece of belt to mount a small loop. That same belt can be used to secure your Burkey. You might even find something in a pretty black & white pattern in a thrift store. Oh and I have a suggestion for the space over your cabinets. I saw that there is a metal material kind of like those flexible cutting boards that you can cut to whatever shape you need and adheir then to any surface. Then you can just glue magnets to whatever little baskets you want access to. Love the ones you already have. Hope some of this helps and I look forward to all your videos. My own health issues prevent me following your path so I live vicariously through your travels. I wish you safe and happy trails. You are just lovely and your joy for life is contagious!😊

What a wonderful recap, Lulu. I would have been surprised if you didn’t come back with a small “to-do” list after your epic adventure. I would suggest to close your rear door to get a rectangular piece of canvas that is maybe 1”W x 12” L and make a loop and then use self tapping screws or even a small piece of alien tape on the metal part of the door to secure it. Just a thought, I know you will figure it out.

Maybe use that lovely light green edging behind your seat on that bare wall. I think your freezer would pull on it sliding in and out and your covers may hide or disturb it as well. Agree with other comments.. the beautiful jewelled fringe is more eye-catching on the shelf. It looks attractive on the bed but will drive you nuts catching on the bin every time you pull it out. Cut down leather strap or small dog collar for the handle. For the hooks, could you possibly attach an over - the - door hanger there instead. Just one piece then. The lace would also look great but it'd be better black or dark coloured because it would get grubby quickly. Maybe a beautiful sheer instead of the lace because the midges may get through the more open weave. Anyway I'm sure you'll come up with your usual ingenious solutions. Happy tweaking. 🦋

A little leather loop on back door would work to close it. Lots of van dwellers use them on cabinets in place of knobs bc they don’t stick out which could be a safety issue.

Get pipe insulation from Home Depot for your bucket. It has a split in it and it will fit around the top of your bucket and store easy. I don't have a van but I have already built one out in my mind.

Hinge restraints or limiters for drop-down cupboards. Some are better than others ...there are wires, some with settings within the hinge itself. Ask your carpenter friend...he would know.

Hi Lulu - offering a replacement for your tiny s-hooks. I use mDesign Hanging Closet Storage Hook ... If you find the need to brace the back more, then I would fashion a lattice design between the existing frame using Decoroca Soft Plant Ties for Support (they have them in black color). I guess it is not easy to explain what I am envisioning as a solution. Screen solution for your food (or use these items as design inspiration) check out the different size frying pan splatter screens from U.S. Kitchen Supply Set of 4 Classic Splatter Screens, 13", 11.5", 10", and 8" - Stainless Steel Fine Mesh. I use these screens and silicone splatter screens of varying sizes.

Hey Lulu, you have light orbs flying around you in this video. I’ve seen it three times. Go back and look, you can see them good up against the black of your blouse. They must travel with you. They protect you while you are OTR. That is so cool.

How wonderful to have a video from Lulu to end the weekend. I love watching how you brainstorm all of the little challenges. It will be interesting to see how they all get resolved. I am the opposite of you when it comes to weather and temperatures. I love the cold; I can't tolerate the heat. After I finished my grocery shopping tonight, I was waiting outside the store for the cab to come and I just enjoyed breathing in the fresh cold air. It just makes me feel so alive. Thanks to your wonderful cameraman for filming this all for us to enjoy.

27:00 -ish. , lol. here’s my idea for a catch for the blue cabinet door 2 small lengths of thin chain, and those eye hooks- they come in a million sizes- you attach the little length of chain to the eye hooks- one hook goes inside the side wall of the cupboard , the other goes on inside of the door. Hopefully that makes sense? I too have a growing list of changes I’ll make while I’m off the road, so I totally get it. I’m excited about it, though, I really enjoy the DIY projects on my lil camper☺️

Every trip I do something to improve my Van's. an easy way to make those cupboards hang down and make a sturdy shelf is to add some chain or rope supports cut just right to give you a shelf when they are open...keep on having fun with it...

Just my opinion, but if you put that beautiful crystal beading on your bed frame (that you mentioned at 39:06) you will fight it, getting it out of the way, every time you need to pull out your freezer to get your ice blocks. I like it so much better on your cabinet. You will be able to see it from anywhere. Just my humble suggestion. Always loving your videos, Vicki

Maybe the Alien Tape would work to secure the Berkey to the Table. Like, if you put Alien Tape on the bottom and side of the Berkey to secure it to the table it sits on and cabinet next to it. Just a thought. Anyway, I love your van, you have a really nice style and it looks so cozy and practical.

I have the same Berkey and I keep it on my kitchen counter in my hightop van. I built a little wooden box that the Berkey sits in but I’ve notched out where the spout is. I don’t even have to bungee mine because the box works well enough. The box is about 4 inches high. I would send you a picture, but I’m not sure how to do it on KZbin.

Lulu, could you see small fishing weights or washers in a hem on the bottom of your big screen to keep the wind from blowing it? Or maybe elastic in a casing across the bottom which would tuck in under your bumper. Just an idea I had. Good luck!

i sooo... hear ye about electricity lulu. ok! here's my say about your van ideas in as few words as possible for me. i can tell ye the dc to dc charge solution with your solar should meet all your power needs. did that include a 2nd alternator? a shore power plug is a good thing to have too. please know there are ways to do the shore power much better than an extension cord out your window. i am thinking you will not like that at all. something to consider. new lights, nice. it's good to have a light switch by your bed and one by your "main" entrance into your van if possible for convenience and safety especially at night. i love, love your new outdoor rug. a pvc pipe black or white or both to house your rug and caps for both ends will contain the dirt, dust, sand, lit'l rocks and bugs from making their way throughout your van. love all your ideas to better utilize the spaces on your driver's side. and your fringe with crystals are fabulous. both places looked really, really great especially by your bed. butt... will pulling your freezer and bins in and out be a prob? i have seen berkey's held in place with thrift store fine belts. you could also use nylon webbing used to make dog leashes, lots of patterns to choose from or back in the day for beach and patio chairs, lots of color choices. the screen covers or food grade, easy to wash material for your food is another excellent idea. maybe using elastic like how hair nets or shower caps are made even if your dish is square or rectangle. and lots, lots and lots of strong magnets for your diy back door bug screen with decent size bias tape for the magnets. your lace or sheer curtain thrift store fine is another fabulous idea too. and i think it's a winterized piping from hd or lowe's that might be more efficient than your pool noodle for your loo. or cut like that piping to be more stable. sorry, i still used too many words... take care lulu. stay warm. you'll be in florida before ye know it. continued travel mercies and blessings.🕊
