All wheel drive, compound turbo, TDI swap Volkswagen Caddy

I wanted a truck that was all wheel drive got 50 miles to the gallon and could tow 3500 lbs. I ended up purchasing a 2005 Toyota Tacoma with a manual transmission. That was the closest thing available in the United states at the time.
So after a couple months of Tacoma ownership I realized how disappointed I was with the fuel mileage and towing capacity of this little truck. I remembered a friend I had who's dad had a ton of old VW rabbit pickups. I told another friend of mine about them and he said lets go look at them.
My friend Scotty and I took a trip over to my friends house and when we pulled up Scotty couldn't believe his eyes. 11 Volkswagen Rabbits lined up behind a fence, all sitting on tarps with there engines and transmissions removed.
I later worked a deal between my friend, Scotty and me to purchase and remove all the trucks. Scotty got one I got one and we were to restore the rest and sell them off. As is life, this didn't go according to plan and we ended up liquidating most of them.
I then moved it to JP Autoworks where my friend Jasen then convinced me that if I was going to do all that work I might as well swap the whole MK4 floor pan so I have newer suspension and tunnel. He had a good point so I went along with it.
As shops closed and moved the truck was moved many times. I also moved 3 times during this process so the truck traveled all Utah, Nevada and Southern California. As you will see it is almost finished and I went way overboard from my first requirements. Enjoy

Probably the most unique caddy I've seen. Amazing chassis work, and beautiful bay! The interior totally transforms what would be a simplistic and rather boring mk1 to a masterpiece. Digging the tailgate, eurospec stoppers, and those tubular a-arms. Really nice work dude! 👍

Currently thinking about building a compound turbo setup for my MK3 Jetta TDI, if you don't mind me asking what turbos are you running and what are the boost pressures like? Both between turbos and at the manifold. Bit of insight would be great since this isn't a common thing to do lol.

Nice build I dont like my caddy because the cab is too small. l think I would have done the pickup truck kit for the mk4 jetta. and put it on the quattro chassis. Probably better result. just the wheel choices are narrowed on the rabbit pickup doing it that way. In hind sight I would just have done what I did with mine and put a AAZ in there with a TDI turbo on it. Plenty of power. Rips the tires loose. but again I dont like driving it because I am tall. too cramped.

No. You could but would have to build the rear end a different height. I wanted it low so I made the frame sit higher. I am using airlift performance suspension.

What is the transmission you’re using? Would it be possible to use this transmission and use like a Pinto rear axle with stock caddy suspension?

It's a 02m out of a TT that Anutee at Dieselland swapped the gear sets with a tdi 02m. You could probably do that.

I cut the whole firewall and frame rails out. It has a full mk4 firewall, Floorpan and frame rails. Essentially it's a mk1 body on a mk4

That's the sweetest 1.9 alh I've ever seen! I've got some of the same polished aluminum pieces that you do also. Where'd you get that coolant expansion tank? But, inquiring minds want to know, which turbos did you use for the compound set up?! My mk4 jetta needs this in her life!
