14:00 Sound of Death. I would actually get this as a kid on our unmodded wii, sound and all. In my experience, it's essentially the equivalent of your wii freezing, although holding down the power button until it turns off, and then turning it back on, usually fixed the issue. However, I had this issue in one specific wii game (Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey) on loading screens. If your wii is doing this on the main menu, there probably is something much worse going on with your wii than a simple overload.

@@lullabene more than likely yeah because I ran into the issue every so often. I think it was most common in the snow white area?? That's where I ran into a lot, though I did run into it in Cinderella's levels too. Ariel's seemed like the most stable outside of a bug or two where the dialogue/action cue was missed and it would just sit there after beating a mini game without the HUD and just the idle animations playing infinitely no matter what we did lmao

There's another reason why the sound of death occurs. It often occurs in certain games when you perform a game crashing glitch that causes the necessary components to shutdown.

Wii error screens are one of the scariest things that can jumpscare you. You are happily playing a game and suddenly all the music goes away, the color fades, and there is a black screen with a message. It feels like the message is watching you. Maybe that could be an element of a horror game. It would be funny to get jumpscared by an error screen in the middle of gameplay

For the wii sound of death, I think just makes that sound when it crashes and then tries to turn off the system but, the part that makes sound doesn’t turn off therefore, it starts making a buzzing sound.

from a comment I read a few years ago the sound is most likely caused when the system encounters an error it can't recover from, so in an attempt to shut itself off to stop further damages, it forcefully shuts down all drivers (apart from the video driver), and more notably the audio driver doesn't like being shut down, making this sound

6:03 This isn't too rare actually, depending on the game and the condition of your Wii. Any dual layered disc like Brawl can become unplayable based on the game and Wii's condition

Imo, “the Wii system memory has been damaged” is WAY scarier than “the Wii system memory has been corrupted”. Idek why, I think the word “damage” just scares me 😭

word association. tl;dr, damage usually means someone broke something. so even though it's just banners and files here, it sounds ultra permanent and like it's your fault. corruption is inevitable - it's virtual, a result of coding oversights or bitflips beyond your control. find a way to reset or overwrite the data, and everything can function again. after all, the corruption can't break your wii in half. but damage? it's used to refer to files here, but when you use it IRL it almost always means.. well, permanent damage. breaking, scratching, shattering, snapping. damage has a fault, intentional or not - maybe you snapped something in rage, scraped someone's car, left a disc where it could get scratched up, knocked over the wii and battered the case. damage can't be overwritten or undone, only covered up. and even though none of that is what happened here, your brain might still go "oh no it broken forever" when seeing the word.

I'm going to clarify some of this errors: The system files are corrupted and banner brick: the corrupted files error can also appear in a banner brick right after pressing A on the warning screen Error 002: this error can appear sometimes if your wii's ios(part of the software) is too outdated when you try to play some games, mostly happens on modified wiis Error 003: this error can appear if you change the region of your console to korea or viceversa since the korean version is the only with a different software unlike the other regional versions

Going to clarify even more lol : -Errors 1 to 4 will only happens on hacked Wii. These are all anti-homebrew errors. -Error 002 will occur if the Wii to use cIOS 249 to read games from 2010 and up. Again this is not "really" an error is more the Nintendo way to block pirated games. USBLoaderGX used cIOS 249* to play games, making some "recent" games unplayable because they booted straight to error 002, making the person who downloaded the game it was a bad dump/iso. You can also force the Wii to use cIOS 249 with official game discs and it will also display this error. -The Sound of Death is not "bad" usally. It's the sound that the Wii makes when it crashes. The Hypervisor (it's the co-processor responsible for the security of the hardware) It stop every running IOS and drivers execpt sound and video. It freeze the image and the sound too, thus making a loud buzzing sound. Can happen on normal gameplay or while playing with homebrews/hacks. What we saw in this video is the Hypervisor kickin in, maybe due to a sysmenu with a bad banner, or something else... Hard to say. *Fun fact, when the USBLoaderGX team noticed what Nintendo did, they changed the IOS used to 251 instead of 249 which is funny imo.

​@4nnThe operating system is named IOS (not to be confused with Apple's iOS). It's run on a separate CPU from the game, and it handles everything that makes the Wii different than the gamecube, except for Wiimotes (e.g. internal storage, wifi, usb, etc) and security.

4:51 My Mario Kart Wii disc does that a lot, same with my Mario Super Sluggers disc whenever certain events happen. That's more of a uncommon error. 12:26 I got that with my first Wii because I was too impatient to wait for a system update to install so I turned it off during the part where you're not allowed to turn it off. At the time I was 12 and it happened around the summer of 2011. I had to replace it because that's a brick and I didn't hack that Wii. My current Wii (which I got on Christmas 2011) is modified and still works because that experience taught me a big lesson.

6:46 I’m surprised that this is a rare error screen since I got it when playing a copy of DKC Returns. It was very scratched when I got it, but worked until I got to the Forest world and started the second level. From there I never could open any levels without that screen popping up so I had to get the disc resurfaced

Surprisingly I got the sound of death several times and my wii still works. I think whatever game you might be playing is pushing the Wii to its limit (for example the games that were making my wii crash were Lego Batman 1 and 2, Modern Warfare 3 and Black ops (rarely))

unable to read disk can be pretty common on double sided disks. My copy of brawl couldnt play subspace + some other stuff it would always get an unable to read message when it opened it. had to buy a new one. (this was all years ago so if there was some other issue the copies long gone anyway.)

I kinda had the sound of death. It's like the audio glitching and just making a weird buzzing noise. It wasn't from the Wii itself (it was the game T^T), but Skylanders Trap Team would always freeze with that sound on the same level at around the same spot. After looking it up, it seems to be a fairly common issue to do with how long you take on it. I think it was 15 minutes? But yeah, always froze there. I thought it was the character I was using for ages lmao. The furthest I got was while using a different character and trying to rush to the usual spot in the level to see if it'd happen. It didn't there, but did freeze a bit further up lol.

My 15 year old wii got the sound of death around 2020. Had all kinds of stuff on it. Still miss using it D: Last time i turned it on, it showed nothing for a good 20 seconds then i heard the SOD. I find it weird though because the 2nd to last time I had used it, it worked just fine (though that was 2015 sooooo).
