Things I learned from watching Mario Kart DS WR for the first time: Dry Bones.

Very excited to see all our communities records, all in HD (mostly) back to back for a little over 42 minutes of incredible MKDS gameplay. Making this comment before the vid is even live but I know it's gonna be good!

Some stats and facts about mini-turbos (MTs) in WRS (current strats): Total MTs in all WRs (32 tracks 3lap PRB/SC): 2209 Average MTs per track: 69 Tracks with most MTs: Choco Mountain and Banshee Boardwalk (101 each) Tracks with less MTs: Rainbow Road (31) and Baby Park (38) Lap 2 on average has more MTs (23.7) than lap 1 (23.1) or lap 3 (22.3) Despite having the 3 tracks who contain by far the most MTs (rCM (101), rBB (101) and rFS (95)) retro tracks still have less MTs in total than nitro tracks (1058 vs 1151) Lap 1 of Rainbow Road has 9 MTs: that's 1 more than a no shroomer Baby Park lap (8) The two Luigi Circuits have the exact same MT stats despite being very different (one using Tank the other BLS): laps 1/2 have 23 MTs each, lap 3 (shroomer) has 21: (67 total MTs) There are only 7 tracks where MTs per second (MT/s) is superior to 1: rKB2, rCI2, F8C, rMC1, rPC, rMB, rSG Rainbow Road and Waluigi Stadium have the lowest MT/s (0.315 and 0.604) Shroom Ridge lap 1 has 33 MTs but lap 3 only has 27: that's the highest difference (6) between 2 laps of the same track

Hello Bibi, I too was very bored and have a reputation for absurd statistical analysis and I actually bothered to fact check your findings! To start off I have found a contradiction in the total number of MTs in WRS in this video, I counted 2211 MTs This still averages out to 69 per track (nice) Tracks with the most MTs and Least MTs were correct with Choco Mountain and Banshee Boardwalk at 101 and Rainbow Road and Baby Park at 31 and 38 respectively My contradiction on MT count happened somewhere in the nitro tracks and I got a count of 1153 for them and 1058 for retro tracks Average MTs per lap: Lap 1 - 22.72 Lap 2 - 23.47 Lap 3 - 22.44 Average MTs per lap (not counting Baby Park): Lap 1 - 23.23 Lap 2 - 23.97 Lap 3 - 22.90 I liked your neat facts about RR and the two Luigi Circuits! MOAR ANALYSIS The tracks by number of MTs: Lowest 5: Rainbow Road - 0.314 Waluigi Pinball - 0.604 Airship Fortress - 0.631 Wario Stadium - 0.691 Bowser Castle - 0.774 (makes sense considering there aren't a lot of chances to MT on these tracks) Highest 5: Koopa Beach 2 - 1.128 Choco Island 2 - 1.125 Mario Circuit 1 - 1.091 Peach Circuit - 1.059 Mushroom Bridge - 1.041 (secret number 6) Sky Garden - 1.000 (I put this in because it was 60 MTs in just a frame under 60 seconds which is sick!) Props to you Bibi for your worthy analysis and inspiring me to do the same! I would like to know where our difference comes from though, strange how we were just 2 off over the course of over two thousand! Uhm, the best karts in mkds actually have the lowest drift stats for better snaking. If the karts would have a high drift stat, they would slide too strong and wouldn't be able to stay on a straight line that easily, making snaking harder What you're probably referring to is the drift boost (mini-turbos), which is a hidden stat correlating with the acceleration stat And there are more reasons why we pick karts with 1 shroom, e.g. because of handling and top speed as well

Hi man! Loved the video! I have a small question: how do people go off track without losing time? For example in 30:52 the guy is going on the yellow part to cut, but if I go there it slows me done. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Rappy, thanks very much for your comment. What you're referring to is a glitch known as PRB (Prolonged Rocket Boost). It involves preserving the perfect start boost by chaining mini turbos in quick succession, resulting in being able to cut through off-road sections at full speed. Try picking the Dry Bomber (as this kart has the longest boost length) and practicing on SNES Mario Circuit 1. Some community members are releasing a video tutorial very soon although there are a couple old guides on KZbin that you can look up for now. Search "MKDS PRB Guide".

Taiga's times are all noted as being set on 09/26/2020, is that because they were confirmed on that date? I assume MKDS doesn't save when the records were hit.

You are correct. Our contact with him is quite limited, so we have not been able to determine exactly when each of his times from this video were set - nor do we want to pester him about it. Since from what we've understood, Taiga is quite young (at 13 or 14) and we would prefer not to be unnecessarily putting pressure and risk alienating him from MKDS.

Does the choice of character matter or just the kart? I noticed that a majority of the time trials had lightweights. Does a character’s weight impact the weight of the kart?

Yes, character choice matters when going off-road. For example, on tracks like GBA Bowser Castle 2 and N64 Choco Mountain, picking Wario and Yoshi makes no difference because there is no off-road.

Ok so I don't have Mario Kart DS, only Wii. Is it 1. some tracks only give you 1 mushroom and others 2, or is is 2. sometimes they just use a mushroom at the start. I can't tell and its been bugging me.

It's kart dependant, so the Std karts (not Egg1, Dry Bomber, ROB-BLS or Polt) have 2 shrooms at the start of every time trial.
