A nice tip is to maintain a doc containing one liner pointers so stories that happen to you and can be used as examples in future interview and update it from time to time, cause it's not easy to reflect back and find all those stories months or years after they happen.

Hi Clement, Love your videos - bought algoexpert + systemsexpert recently (great content), so really excited about this new free content which will help me to prepare further. Quick question, imagine you were already a software developer, shy of 1 year of experience (still working so still learning at work), however you do not have a CS degree, but a different strong STEM (Physics) degree from a top school. Would you say that solving all of the questions (well, struggling through them) and having covered the crash course on DS&A & CTCI is sufficient to prepare for the interviews with FAANGs, or would you recommend digging deep into studying DS&A and CS basics as well? If the later, do you have any resources/any particular topics you would advise covering?
@clem4 жыл бұрын
Hi TheJBMVenture, really glad to hear that you're enjoying the content on AlgoExpert so far! To your question, you're basically describing the situation that I was in 3.5 years ago, except I _wasn't_ working as a software developer (I had a Math degree but no CS degree or background when I got into my coding bootcamp). I would say that if you go through all of our questions + DS&A course, you'll have ample preparation. Our new Coding Interview Assessments should serve as a good test to see how you perform once you've completed everything else. And then, if you still want practice, I would just practice by doing more questions; I don't think you'll be missing any sort of fundamental CS knowledge on DS&A--just practice. I hope this helps!

“The Behavioral Interview should be taken very seriously”, I just failed an on-site and was given this feedback: that I ‘aced the technical part (finally did it), but certain aspects of the behavioral Interview didn’t show strong signals for what they were looking for’. 🤦♂️ Now, the recruiter said I definitely came very close and that I should try again in 2 months. Not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, but TBH it doesn’t make me want to re-apply ever again, this Hiring committees feel like they’re a bunch of arrogant a-holes (sometimes) 😅
@cally77777 Жыл бұрын
Don't feel bad, mate! If the idiots in charge want to hire on the basis of who is the best story spinner, rather than the technical abilities of their applicants, which is the primary skill needed in these companies, its their loss. To call a spade a spade, you are being asked to re-package your experiences in the most favourable light, regardless of the actual truth ... in other words, to be a spin-doctor of yourself. Is that a noble calling, I ask you? I wouldn't say so.

I would recommend JavaScript or Python. 1. Because they are one of the most popular programming languages 2. Because they are compared to C++ or Java relative easy to learn and I think they are more fun to code in As a second language then I would recommend C++ and Java because they give you a deeper understanding how code works. PS: I have started to code at the age of 14 too.

Like he was saying in the video it doesn't really matter what you tell them as long as it shows them the traits they are looking for. If you have no work experience then tell them about somthing from school projects, sports, hobbies, friends group, parents. Basically unless you were just recently born you should of delt with difficult situations, confrontation, failure, ect. that you can talk about.

My biggest tip for the behavioral interview would be to throw a joke. At the end of the day, your interviewers will sit around a desk and someone will either say (or not say) this: "I liked him/her". If you aren't likable, you won't land the job.
