This is the most informative video on Midi Guitar 2 that I have seen. I am more skilled at Bass and Guitar than a Midi Keyboard and my session work requires a high level of musicianship. So with Midi Guitar 2 it is possible to deliver tracks to clients in any style of music using todays excellent virtual instruments. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience using Midi Guitar 2.

Apologies for a late reply. I use Windows 10 and a Line 6 UX audio interface. Mg2 works fine with Cakewalk as a plugin. In the standalone mode, I get to hear all the instruments that come with Mg2. I have registered Shreddage 3 with Native Access. Once S3 is opened, I see the interface but can't hear anything. In the Audio option of S3, I see ASIO and ASIO UX2 as driver and device. Sample rate is 44100. The interface on MG2 shows ASIO UX2 with the latency at 256@44.1

Hi what about more groove oriented playing where timing is important. Like playing with rhythms in funk and pop stuff. How is tracking timing? @@lofileif
@lofileif
@lofileif 9 ай бұрын
@kennethwilliams4725 Well, you have the latency in the software. That is a factor. The question if whether you learn to handle it lies in practice. Tracking itself is definetly fast enough for most types of genres! It is all about the process of learning how to play this ”new” instrument (midi guitar), recalibrating your old skills of using the controller (guitar) for new purposes!

@@lofileif is the amount of latency equivalent to a hardware MIDI guitar synth? Can you tell me how much latency there is?
@lofileif
@lofileif 9 ай бұрын
@kennethwilliams4725 I don’t have any such reference unfortunately! I have only used the Roland system with the hex PU/Gk system before this. You have a round trip latency measureing about 20ms for the low E string. But as I said, the amount of latency is not a problem. You learn to compensate for that with practice. Like a reed player switching between different instruments, with different sized columns of air required, affecting the rapidness of response. If it aligns with your expectations it is not an issue.

Thank you so much Leif, this is mind-blowing. From this I think we can be confident that anything is possible, that MG2 is totally amazing (not to mention your superb use of it) and that any problems I may encounter are likely to be of my own making 😂. I basically use MG2 live at church and on the streets, sending my acoustic guitar into my iPhone via iRig 2. I use the MG2 onboard amp models/reverb/cabs with the midi going to AudioKit’s Synth One to provide strings. Like you I use a very simple transmitter/receiver pairing to send the total output to my audio amp. Alternatively, in intimate living room environments, I often link the iRig 2 output via a very short cable to a Bluetooth speaker in my jeans’ back pocket. The iRig 2 comes with a belt loop which means it’s so easy to keep the iPhone in a front jeans pocket. For switching presets live I use IK Multimedia’s BlueBoard. My setup is incredibly simple and very cheap and although I’m way, way below the amazing standard you set Leif, I wanted to share it to encourage folk like me for whom MG2 can be such a huge blessing. Thanks again for this wonderful video and all you do on the forum! 🍾❤️

Have you considered the cycfi pickups? I think they could be better (s/n, fidelity) than the Roland as they are designed to be a audio source and each coil is active and humbucking. Also since you seem to be running down almost every possible interface are you considering leap motion? Keith McMillan instruments has presets for the leap motion and mixing for the Kmix mixer. Really appreciate your spirit and generosity in this channel

Hi, and thanks a million for the tips. Yep, I have been looking long and hard at the cycfi PU:s, and I agree. I believe those would probably work better than the Roland stuff. If nothing else, they will have a dedicated place on your guitar. Almost as if they were designed to be there you know? 🤣 I've never understood those sharp edges on the Roland hexPU:s (even the integrated ones) and the awful little cable on the external GK3 set. But money is probably the reason for why I don't have any NUmultis yet. I would love to test how great they actually are, but I can't justify a purchase just for a test right now. And the Leap Motion stuff I had in the shopping basket a few years ago, but something came up, and I never went ahead with that purchase. It is interesting, but as a guitar player I got my hands full already, and I haven't figured out a way to make use of that while playing? I've used the free MusiiKraken, to test some gesture control stuff, but nothing has come out of that yet either. But still, really interesting stuff!👍

@@lofileif the Cycfi only gets expensive when you add the robust cabling and integrated “normal” pickup tone/pot breakout box solution. $170 plus some DB-9 cabling custom direct to your 6 daw inputs could be under $210 plus labor. Good point about the hands 😂 I’ll take it out of my eBay search list now… there is an idea of using the Face ID iPhone camera and facial motion cap to drive expression based expression. Also, the melt my face off jokes just write themselves… But those face mo cap phone helmets look ridiculous.

@@lofileif I found that I had downloaded and installed Version 2.2.1 back in March, but for some reason, was too busy or couldn't get it to work. I'm using an HX Stomp as my Audio Interface, and have read some comments about some problems getting it to work. I launched MG 2, and it seems to be working fine so far, minimal latency. Will have to explore it more. Is 2.2.1 the current Version. I'm trying to determine how actively Jam Origin is in maintaining and developing their products. I tried the Test Piano. My Classical Guitar with an "under soundboard" Piezo Pickup tended to produce some false note, whereas my Electric Guitar was much more accurate. Any tips where to look/settings to resolve that problem? Thanks
@lofileif
@lofileif 2 жыл бұрын
I am glad to hear you get minimal latency, to begin with. That is one of those things people generally struggle a bit with initially. The trick is, of course, to relearn playing guitar with the MIDI Guitar software, anticipating everything by as much as the latency delay the output. Somewhere between 15 - 20 ms ( the equivalent of standing six meters away from your amp while playing). The 2.2.1 version is indeed the current, as it has been for a few years now. JamOrigin is working on the next generation (MIDI Guitar 3 and Guitar MODs) right now, and those will be what comes next. I have a small part as QC in that process, and I just made a video on the status of the MPE part of that next-generation stuff. kzbin.info/www/bejne/poHUgaV_pJxjedU The accuracy is much more of a picking problem than a settings problem, in my experience. Try to learn and play without tampering too much with noise gate (I keep mine at zero usually). This is where you need to be patient. Take one note at a time to begin with. Learn to start, and more importantly STOP every note without triggering other notes. Don't go directly into chords to begin with. check what intervals work for you. MIDI Guitar 2.2.1 can't translate the minor second interval, so don't use that in any chords, and leave the more complex chord until later. I am usually suggesting you start with all three knobs in the MIDI Velocity Box at twlve'o'clock to begin with. As I said before, easy does it. Don't rush it. You will only become frustrated. And furthermore, if you can, use a third party piano AU/VST instead of the Test piano. It is much better to use something more dynamic to start out with. Otherwise, all notes will be represented on the same dynamic level and you won't be able to learn to avoid anything, as everything comes through. Best of Luck
@picksalot1

Hey David! Sorry about the late answer. Have you had any sucess in getting MG2 to work at all? I am no Cakewalk user but you should probably be a bee to get the standalone version to work first, just to get your head around the software itself. I am NOT the developer (JamO in the forum is the guy you are looking for). I am just a guitar player like anyone else, but with a special interest in MIDI guitar, and especially this software. I found some time to explore it a little myself luckily, as I was missing that same introduction or manual everyone does. So I can try to help you from my limited perspective, not knowing the ins and outs of every DAW, but at least having a relatively solid grasp of the main functions of the software itself! @@lofileif I gave MIDI Guitar 2 a shot today and referenced the link you mentioned. I'm finding it unusable for my interests. I don't have any interest in playing soft synths, or piano with my guitar, instead I want to get all the MIDI data from my performance and send it into a program called Kyma. I've played around with the settings, but I haven't been thrilled with the data I'm getting. I also didn't realize it doesn't offer MPE yet. One big problem is that I seem to be getting a bunch of "hanging" notes. Any thoughts or suggestions? Does the software function differently as standalone vs. plug-in? Thanks!
@lofileif
@lofileif Жыл бұрын
@@SpectralEvolver No, there is no difference. If you also looked at my setting video, you have all the secrets. The rest is practice. It is not mastered in a day, and spurious notes will be however clean you play. They don't necessarily have to be an issue, unless you are feeding them to some other software that multiplies or amplifies them? But practice and patience are the two important things here. MPE will come with MG3 (I don't know when).

Just to say, as a beginner to using Midi2Guitar, this is a great overview. I will look at the M2G forum, but think I am correct that even with my M1 iPad Pro 12.9”, I cannot replicate the multi-M2G track approach you have performed with? I don’t have a hex pickup, but that’s not an M2G issue - unless I miss my mark, M2G for iOS, iPadOS, strictly operates as the standalone running, then you start up GarageBand (or Cubasis, Auria Pro, or others) and so it’s a single track deal. I tried to run the AUv3, but it’s not a direct comparison to a desktop plugin it seems, in GB iOS, it is merely an effect, so you cannot produce MIDI from it, hence multi-track in iOS is a non-starter I think. But hey, it’s a wonderful and high-value piece of software, and I am not rushing to buy a hex pickup anyway! Thank you for the music as they say! Take care all.
@lofileif
@lofileif 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! You are right in that this is not a setup for iPad, for a few reasons. First, I use a Boss GP-10 as an 8 channel audio interface for the hex-pickup’s audio separation. And that GP-10 needs a driver which isn’t possible to use with the iPad at this point. You could perhaps use a breakout cable directly into a minimum 6 channel audio interface to the same effect though. I displayed an example layer with Camelot Pro and MIDI guitar2 in plugin mode on six layers, and I do think that you would be able to do on the iPad too. But I certainly wouldn’t be rushing off to by buy a hexPU for that either! Thanks for stopping by though, and hope there was other stuff in here that tickeled your fancy too! 😀👍

Hey man. Anyone that can play that well and made a whole video endorsing a product has my attention. I read the comments before asking this: I own GK3 and GR55. It's great but I want to be all software. Regarding MG2, I need the hexaphonic pickup set up for minor 2nds and string separation. I thought GRk3 needs additional processor to create MIDI to the interface but Fishman FTP does not? I saw one comment that the Gk3 or FTP with MG2 is not suitable for "live" playing (studio only) and did not understand that. I have faith in MG3 whenever it is ready. So what pickup should I use and what interface helps that 13pin signal go into 6 DAW channels? (I don't do fancy expressions but might get a breath controller after seeing you play !). That Coltrane you were playing one one of the videos was awesome!

I guess I'll read up on how the MG3 plugin has sounds added...or maybe it pulls form other sound banks live? I hope to do my whole automated Ableton show from an iPad... maybe a small laptop and get rid of my GR55, vocal processor, beat buddy, aeros looper, mixer and 2,389 cables!

Hey Joe! Thanks for stopping by. If you really feel you need that string separation, and you want to go this "old school" (HexPU 6 channels audio OUT to six instances of MG2,) you need something like the GP10, the SY-1000, or a breakout cable solution. The 6 instances of MG2 placed on 6 separate tracks in your DAW is what does the conversion to MIDI. You don't want to use the Roland/Boss protocol. FTP on the other hand does the conversion and separate strings all in one, but again, a pretty dynamically flat conversion and triggering is uneven at best. Has been regarded as the fastest alternative with regard to latency though. I can understand any apprehensiveness to use any of the existing MIDI solutions live, but I have been occupied with testing MG3 for some time now, and it is better in so many respects, I can't see anyone use anything else in the near future. But that remains to be seen of course. But for those that are strongly against a computer on stage, the struggle will of course continue. I will not be one of them. 😀 so for now (if you like the 13 pin system) use any of your old GK pickups, but instead of committing to some archaic system with drivers updates you have no control over, get something like this: www.separate-strings.co.uk/breakout%20cables%20and%20more.html and a 6 channel audio interface. As long as that interface can connect to your computer (skip firewire) you are good. Have a look at this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/porWhGSrr7aBl80 and consider perhaps GigPerformer rather than a traditional DAW. Much more flexible for stage. I don't know about the world sounds really. I would like some myself. I have the Kontakt ones, but Kontakt is generally pretty clumsy to work with, and I have been eyeing stuff like UVI World Suite 2. But since I don't have that I can't say anything. I prefer to speak from experience, rather than what KZbinrs tell me. They usually have some monetary incentive to not be fully committed to any truth of sorts, unfortunately. So you need to do your due diligence also with regard to what I am saying here. 😉👍

Ok, so one thing to keep in mind is that there IS latency. Some you mitigate by tweaking some settings, but not all. The bigger hurdle in the beginning is usually lack of patience. You may have to rethink what and how you play somewhat. I did this video on the subject of settings and latency, that could be a place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnm8anavqKtnesU This is made for desktop computer so it will contain advice on setting not available to you on the iOS version. But most of it is though. Start there, get yourself a good dry software instrument to start practicing with, and be really careful with your picking - stop every note from ringing before going to the next as an initial exercise. (Make sure you use good wired monitoring for the iPad. No Bluetooth stuff ever for audio. Good luck

Great video! (as always, I'd say) I have a question about how you succeeded in playing one note and having a chord (min.5.55). That is maybe the greatest thing you can do when your chords are a bit sloppy and MG2 cannot tell what you are trying to play.
@lofileif
@lofileif 2 жыл бұрын
I think you are referring to my using the sustain pedal. It sort of lets every note ring out in a way, and create chords or contexts from the remaining resonating sounds for as long as you press down your sustain pedal. So, for the appearance of any big chord, you just press the pedal and play the constituting notes. Check out the full video at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGq6pGqDgc5jnck

Interesting video. Great bit of software. Terrible for chords and has no working (sostenuto) hold function. Every other guitar synth ever has had that function. Jam Origin told me that it wasn't a thing! Really good tracking. I used it live for a bit and it's ok. The Triple Play is easier to control live (I use mainstage), does chords and dynamics better, but has it's flaws as well. I've done 3 albums and hundreds of gigs with it though. I've used the Jamstik as well and it's.......erm.....an option. A very expensive option. Best for drums (when it works). Midi guitar 2 and Triple play together is almost perfect, but not an option live unfortunately. Midi guitar 2 is definetely the best value for money though. You don't even need to use aguitar. Have you tried plugging in a mic and recording your partner screaming at you for not doing the dishes. Set it to a brass sound and enjoy (after you've done the dishes!)

Thanks! Yes, the software certainly has room for improvement. But the thing that bother me most (and I would have assumed that goes for most) is the minor second interval issue. Granted is doesn’t work with big chords, but it does chords if you are careful enough. I don’t use the MG2 hold function, but surely there is one? But how do you mean it isn’t working? I’ve been interested in the FTP setup myself, but I couldn’t get any reasonable response out of it. In my experience, it couldn’t handle slurs, bends, and legato anyway near as good as the MG2 software. If you have some video of some performance with it, I would be very interested. I also found the dynamics terrible. But on the other hand, I haven’t given it a fraction of the time I’ve put in to set up MG2. You can work with MG2 and a hexPU in a workaround if you want to get it to perform chords better. I have a few videos on that as well. You can perhaps check out the Synthaxe video I did a while ago? But to each his own. If you’ve found a working setup in FTP I can only congratulate you, and again, if you have any video where you think those qualities comes through, I would be super interested to see them. The promotional stuff Fishman themselves put out really isn’t convincing. 😀👍🤝

@nickjitsu 2 жыл бұрын
@@lofileif The hold function I mean is sostenuto. You press the hold pedal, it holds the chord and you can play over the top without triggering another note or haveing any extra midi commands. I use mainstage for my sounds and MG2 doesn't transmit the proper sostenuto. I contacted MG2 and they said it wasn't a thing and noone has ever asked for it. However this function has been on every synth since I started in the early 90's (I have owned everything apart from the Axon). Aye, the TP is much better live as most of the time I'll be doing chords. The dynamics are more stable. I have lots of videos demoing the triple play. Most of the studio ones are live playing (especially the solos). As for slurs, bends etc I approach this differently. I think more like a keyboard player and use pedals to shift pitch, change chord or change velocity to slur. I'll get round to doing a comparison vid at some point. I thinks MG2 has the edge over the TP, but not for the way I need it to react live. It is certainly more stable and great for single line playing. The cleanest is the Jamstik, but they keep messing with the software which makes it all but unuseable. The Roland stuff.......er.....well I'm sure you know already. NO one talks about it anymore (although I miss my GR-33). Anyway, enjoying your videos. They are giving me lots of ideas!

@lofileif
@lofileif 2 ай бұрын
Well, I would probably use MIDI Guitar 3 over MIDI Guitar 2, since the tracking allows for a greater variety of synths (MPE included). The latency in itself is depending more on what softwre instrument you are using. Some are unplayable, and some feel like a natural extension of your guitar. Monitoring will also play a big part live, I guess. Best is if you test the software out for yourself, to see if it fits your style and needs: You can find the beta versions of MG3 here: www.jamorigin.com/beta/ If you still rather go for MG2: you can download them in trial mode as well: www.jamorigin.com/download/

Thank you so much for the generous information! I am a fingerstyle guitarist and I am very interested in getting into midi guitar playing for the different instrument sounds I can play on one guitar and so I need your guidance. Currently I've got a Yamaha Pacifica 112j for my electric guitar and a Fender CD-60CE for my Electric Acoustic Guitar, I don't have a Digital Audio Interface at the moment but I do have experience. What's a good setup for starting with Midi Guitar playing? I was considering buying the Jamstik Studio MIDI Guitar, do I need a digital audio interface to use it? If so what should I get? If I buy the MIDI Guitar 2 Software, I'm guessing I need to buy a digital audio interface to use it with my current Yamaha Pacifica 112j, would that be a better/cheaper option than buying the Jamstik Studio MIDI Guitar? Basically I am ready to invest into this new space of guitar playing for me, what's the ideal setup? I just really wanna be able to play piano and saxophone sounds on my guitar. Your feedback would be appreciated!

@lofileif Жыл бұрын
Hi Kareem! Glad to hear from any finger-style guitar player that is interested in MIDI Guitar. I've advocated a hybrid picking approach for users of the MIDI Guitar software for the longest time since more fingers equal more control. And you certainly need precision and control to make it work. To begin with, you will need an audio interface for whatever setup you choose. It doesn't matter if you go with the hardware solution (Jamstik)or the software (JamOrigin's MIDI GUitar2). Both need a computer to work really. I assure you can argue that you could use the Jamstik MIDI out and hook it up directly to a synth or sound source of any kind, but you'd be missing out on everything that make this a powerful setup. You won't close to as great sounding saxes or pianos in any stock sounds from any synths. So yes, you need an audio interface. But you don't need to ruin yourself. I use Focusrite Scarlett interfaces, which are rather cheap, and I have no issues with sound quality or tracking speed from those. There is going to be some degree of latency in the setup, whatever setup you choose. Look at this video for tis on how to handle that with the MIDI Guitar 2 software. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnm8anavqKtnesU More than that, what you have is probably already good enough to get started with. You don't need a DAW (digital audio workstation) to try the MIDI Guitar 2 software. Just downloaded the trial version here:www.jamorigin.com/download/ Try it before you buy it, and if you after testing it believe it is worth the money to instead purchase a Jamstik, you are at least better equipped by having tested the competition. I won't be arguing for any of the alternatives, since I want it to be your decision. But again, I like for it to be an informed decision. Both will certainly do the job.

@@arnoldludvig6900 Thanks for those kind words. Yes, the MIDI Guitar software will of course pick up on anything pitch related you feed it with, but it is limited in range. It is developed to work for a traditional 6 string guitar between the Low E (also drop D) and up to the 6th string 23 fret D# (for some reason?). The bas register that overlap with the guitar is obviously going to trigger ok, but for the rest, you can use MIDI Bass on another audio track. So you use both software in tandem (it works).

So you can record the output of MG2/3 with any of your VST/VSTi instruments or effects in it, in a DAW. You then just open MG2 on an audiotrack and Record. Hi! First of all, latency is impossible to eliminate from this pitch-to-MIDI translation. This software analyses your incoming guitar signal, so the is always going to be a little gap between you picking a note to what you hear coming back to you out of the speakers. I have a couple of videos on this subject, and although gear is important your audio interface is not the most important part. A fast computer is WAY more important for a fast response. Check out the se two videos where the first one is about Tracking and MIDI Guitar 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnm8anavqKtnesU and the second one is about the new version, MIDI Guitar 3: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpCyhoGBma54aJI None of these are describing setting up with an iPad though. I have other videos where I use that, but I would not expect latency to be less of an issue on an iPad, rather the opposite. Now it looks like the split of left and right channels is not operating in AUM on ipad or iphone. Perhaps it’s a limit of ios? I’ve tried all routing options and so far as I can see the two channels from my dual interface (TC Helicon Go Twin) do not separate the pickup signal left and right ( top three strings and bottom three strings)for MG2. To confuse the situation even more they work perfectly for all AUV3 effects such as delay, reverb etc. It’s only MG2 and AUV3 instruments that seem to defy the left / right routing. Each channel routes all six strings to the AUV3 instrument. Any ideas of a work around? I’ll post here in future if I figure it out! Cheers, Anthony McGrath (Scotland)

Just took a peek at a demo of course that pedal. It looks really interesting. If the pitched output of that is as clean as the wet (sampled) output was on my Plus pedal, you might just have a real gem on its way to you. MIDI Guitar2 don’t work too well (at all) with polyphonic bends, but you can bend one note at a time and have the dry output go to another instance of MG2 like my Plus experiment, and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear you getting some really cool results. And when MG3 comes along you can combine both outputs into it as it should support polyphonic bends as well!

Hi Jimmy! Sorry, but I haven’t used anything BOSS/Roland (besides the GP-10) after my GR55. I actually don’t use any of their technology per se, but instead only the fact that I can connect my 13-pin equipped guitars into it and get 8 channels out. From that I am only using the per-string-audio as I showed in the video. So the only feature I use is really the 6 channel audio over USB into the computer. No Re-Amping or COSM or anything else. Just the 6 clean signals into six audio tracks. So if any other unit has that particular feature, you should be able to use that as well. But this is nothing I can speak of, since I don’t have those, unfortunately! 🤷‍♂️

Hi, thanks for the explications. Very thorough! I wonder if guitar midi 2 could help me with this: Could I play pizzicato on my cello (it's actually for bass parts) and have midi guitar 2 translate that into midi to triggering samples of pizzicato double bass. All in real time. I have a sensor mic that can be taped directly on the wood that would not pickup the other instruments.
@lofileif
@lofileif Жыл бұрын
Hi there! MIDI Guitar picks up on (all) pitch information within the (standard 6 string) guitar range, so translating anything that overlaps between the cello and the guitar is possible. Now, a piezo or contact mic on the cello is of course better than a room mic for this, but the resonance of the cello is a pretty big part of its character. And it is just that kind of resonance that usually makes it problematic to get clean distinct translations. And if your goal is to translate cello to bass in real time, I wouldn't dare promise you a flawless result, but you can certainly try for yourself. There is a free demo at www.jamorigin.com/download/ If you do try, please let me know how it worked out. 😀👍

Hi Francesco! I know for a fact that it doesn’t track any notes below D2, and hence is not suitable for extended range instruments. I want to connect my guitar to my arranger keyboard, so when I change chords on guitar it changes the Chords on the keyboard. Is there a midi guitar pickup that can connect directly into keyboard midi port.
@lofileif
@lofileif Жыл бұрын
Hi Jay! Well, you could use pretty much every existing MIDI guitar solution to send MIDI from your guitar to your keyboard, if your keyboard have some sort of MIDI In capabilities. You don't need a special pickup for that, you can just route the MIDI out of the computer or MIDI interface directly into the keyboard. If you don't want to use a computer in the middle you need a controller (MIDI Guitar) that sends MIDI on its own, like a Jamstik for instance. No pickup you put on your guitar will turn it into a self sufficient MIDI controller device. But why do you want this? Is it a synth (on not just a keyboard), with its own sounds you want to play? If you give me a hint as to how you are intending to use this, I could give you a more detailed opinion on what would be the best option for you:

Well, you can obviously use the JamOrigin software solution if you don't want to drill holes in your PRS guitar (you can of course use some sort of adhesive tape too). That is the solution featured in the video. You seem to have a five pin DIN input for MIDI IN on your synth so you should be fine. You could even connect your synth wirelessly via bluetooth with something like the WIDI Uhosts if you don't like the idea of a lot of cables. I have videos on that too. 👍

@@lofileif ok I will try that. So I will connect my guitar to computer via usb interface, jamorigin will convert guitar to midi, then midi out from computer to midi in to Korg synth. @lofileif
@lofileif 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe that was exactly how I felt too, just having bought it. There is somewhat of a learning curve when it comes to lessening the energy with which you pick your notes. Start with one note somewhere in the middle, and try to get a handle of something like maximum sustain to begin with. Just pick a note and let it ring out. And when you feel you get consitent results go to picking short notes. Stopping it from ringing is probably the most crucial aspect. Learn to pick with your right hand and just release pressure in your fretting hand. This way, rather than trying to mute with your right hand as well. Once you are comfortable controlling the note length that way you can use your right hand to mute strings you are not picking isf you like. Don't use any noise gate or artificial ways of cleaning up your playing to begin with. And, very important, start with an instrument that sounds good. A harsh piano sound will always be more stressful than an electric piano for instance. You ARE going to trigger bum notes in the beginning. Don't let those stress you out, because of a poor choice of instrument. Easy does it. I don't know if you are on a computer or iPad, but settings wise: start with a buffersize of 128 or 256 @44.1 to begin with (where it says latency, and no (or very little) input gain, same for noise gate. In the MIDI Velocity box, start with all three knobs on 12 o'clock. Good luck, man! 👍
