As this video is on parts, wanted to share a recent experience with my Lexus. Hit the side mirror while backing out of the garage and busted up the housing and the turn signal on the side mirror. Called all three Lexus dealerships and an average price for just the parts was $300 before taxes (not including labor, taxes, etc). Did some online searching using the needed p/n's and a Toyota dealer's online site showed the parts as being available. I believe they are part of a larger chain that involves Lexus dealerships as well. The prices for the parts were almost half ($175) that of the Lexus dealerships and I went ahead and did the repair myself after watching several KZbin videos for other Lexus models (couldn't find one for my exact generation and model year). The Lexus dealerships wanted anywhere from $500 - $600 installed with taxes. The Toyota dealership had a $5 pickup charge for online purchases and all in all walked out with the original Lexus parts (in a Lexus branded box) in hand for $195.
@junior17medval2 жыл бұрын
Just to be clear you found your parts for the Lexus cheaper on an online toyota dealership different from your local toyota dealership. You bought them and had them deliver to your local Toyota dealership and paid a $5.00 fee for online purchase?

Or unproven over engineered German cars. They are quite reliable and easy to fix. They are not on Toyota’s level but they are better than most I think. I now own a 2018 Avensis - my first Toyota. God bless you Ahmed for keeping us Toyota owners in the know. It is funny that you pulled up Manhattan Beach Toyota in your video. This dealer is owned by former Denver Broncos quarterback, John Elway. About five years ago, MB Toyota had a set of TRD headers for my 2004 Tundra with 5VZ-FE engine. The Toyota list price for the headers was $1,100. MB Toyota was blowing them out as an "end of life cycle" part for $400 on Ebay. I snatched up that deal.

I've done this with my Nissan and Kia. You'd be surprised at the price difference, but you have to include shipping! What about tax? Remember, msrp "tax" at the local dealer will be higher than the lower cost part from the dealer selling that same part at the reduced part cost. Remember shipping cost? That's convenience! The part or parts are shipped to your door. So, are you just buying an oil filter and want to stay with OEM? Local dealer or aftermarket, your choice. Buying other parts as part of a maintenance repair? That's the time to buy filters! Include them in the order to be shipped to you. Don't need the filters now? You will soon enough! Buy 'em now, use 'em later! I've done this for years. Thank you AMD for this valuable Toyota info!

@johnminer83816 ай бұрын
Very informative and eye-opening. I looked up the price for new brake rotors for my 2016 Lexus ES350 on the Lexus site; MSRP $88.88. Since I was using a VPN, my browser thought I was in California and listed several CA Lexus dealerships where I could obtain my needed parts. Each of the three showed their price at MSRP or slightly below, which is what I expected. When I entered my correct zip code, suburban Atlanta, and checked the Lexus dealership prices here for the same part, each of them was SUBSTANTIALLY ABOVE MSRP. That's why some local dealerships are referred to as "Stealerships". This reinforces and confirms my decision four years ago to never set foot in a Lexus dealership again!

Watching your videos actually made me ( a 76 year old, non mechanic ) buy a second car.( to have as a parts runner ) I have a 2013 Prius that I want to drive for a million miles. ( bucket list challenge to myself ) As a 76 year old, all thumbs mechanic you will be shocked to learn that my speed is not quite up to your standards, nor is my equipment. BUT , with the second car ( a 2002 Highlander ) it gives me the option of working at my speed and so far being able to complete the repairs myself. The Prius has over 300K miles and runs strong and gets better gas mileage than much newer Prius my friends have. You have given an old fart a hobby that brings me a great deal of pride , a goal that is attainable. And even with the ridiculous expense of the tools and equipment I have purchased, a monetary savings in not purchasing new autos. Would love to meet you someday, but my OLD bones are allergic to the rust belt even more than my cars are.

Awesome stuff. Thank you! You are 100% correct, automotive OEM’s have specifications that often exceed the part manufacturer’s specifications. It makes sense that easily accessible parts like brake pads are worth replacing with high end aftermarket for less than Toyota/Lexus parts. But less accessible parts that take hours and hours to replace should probably be replaced with Toyota/Lexus parts to reduce the risk of a failure and double work. How often have failures in Toyota/Lexus parts resulted in a comeback for you?

I kind of figured there was a method to the madness regarding Toyota part numbers. I had a feeling that there were generic part number code sections of the part numbers with with the following parts of the number specifying the individual part. This has helped me level up my part searching capabilities for Toyota parts so much. I didn't even know that Toyota even made cv boot kits for my car despite looking for them. After installing a new ss exhaust on my 99 Camry, my super-reliable car wouldn't start. WTF? I then realized I snipped the downstream 02 sensor b/c I was replacing it with a new one.... except I had the radio on in the car which means the circuit was active when I snipped the wire. All of a sudden thoughts of a blown ECU came over me and made me frozen like a deer in headlight. Damn! I went in the house and looked for a resolve and for an ECU just in case it was blown. Welllll, long story short, I back probed my fuses with continuity only to find a blown fuel pump fuse (which I now know will often blow if any shorts occur in the emissions system so the car won't start). I install a 15A mini fuse and the car started right up, and much quieter due to the new exhaust. So lesson learned and improved upon. The next week I installed all new smart fuses that light up if they blow. I'm too old to go through that sht ever again.

I got the Toyota electronic parts catalog (yep, the one used in all dealers) from a friend. Fun fact: it didn't come with local price module and the size is over 10G. AND it forced you to install this gigantic thing under C drive root folder.

Oh man, you certainly answered a few questions I had about some of these part numbers lol. Searching for me was a bit of a learning curve at first, the dash in the part number sometimes messes up the search too. Thats awesome though! I also found Olathe Toyota to be pretty competitive pricing wise.

Great video AMD. It really gives us a good understanding about parts. I look forward to getting comfortable with my parts manual after getting my tundra soon. Also narrowing down some local and online dealerships to keep on my list when parts needed.
