It also is a misconception that it was normal at the time to marry that Jung. Yes it was legal to marry your daughter of at the age of twelve but that wasn't the norm and only happened in a few cases in the upper class. The normal marriage age for women at the time was around 18-21 and ther men normal was not so much older.
@HappilyTearful4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it really wasn't the norm at all. Girls could be betrothed that young, but it was really uncommon for them to get married that young. Even the natural grossness aside, the risk of dying in childbirth is infinitely higher at that age than the more normal (at the time) marrying age of ~20. Any society that normalizes thirteen-year-old girls having babies will soon find itself without any women to have babies.

This song is definitely the best at storytelling, but there are a few things that you should know. Manox was actually in his late thirties. He groomed Katherine when he was serving as her music teacher. The second of her relationships was Dereham, which was actually a consensual yet secret and forbidden relationship. Still, the power dynamics based on age are questionable. Finally, Thomas Culpepper was Henry's courtier, who Katherine allegedly had an affair with, but it should be brought up that Culpeper was pardoned for r**e before their relationship, and I've heard (not 100% sure on this) that Katherine claimed Thomas had r***d her as well. Henry was not only unhappy that Katherine had allegedly cheated, but also that she wasn't a virgin, and had her beheaded at the age of 19. Her musical inspirations are two popstars who were portrayed as innocent yet sexy, Britney Spears and Ariana Grande. The next scene will be the Queens Fight, which occurs right after this song.

If I remember correctly, it was proven that Katherine and Mannox never had intercourse but did do other things for pleasure. And with Thomas Culpeper there's some belief that that relationship was also consensual because it's believed that Katherine's last words before being beheaded were "I die a queen, but I'd rather die the wife of Culpeper." And she was either beheaded at the age of 17 or 19 because there are unfortunately no official records of her birth :(((((( It's so sadddddd
@jamiehood8504 жыл бұрын
@@jules4686 That's interesting, because everything I've seen about Manox says that he was a predator, and that he r***d her. I totally get what you're saying about Culpeper, because I know their relationship is hotly debated. In my opinion, they either had a consensual affair, or he r***d her.

The reason girls in the modern era start their periods so early is due to hormone treatment in the foods. Back in Katherine's time periods typically didn't start until 16 years old at earliest. It's a common misconception that girls back then married around 13. She was underage even by their standards. What's more, Thomas is wildly believed to have assulted Howard.

Girls starting their periods earlier now is more to do with us having better nutrition, if I'm not mistaken. Iirc the average age is around 12, but I wouldn't be surprised if the few that started around 9 or 10 were getting hormone treatments. The proof is that in places where nutrition isn't as good as it is in the West, girls often start their periods later, and girls with anorexia often have their periods stop entirely.

She was such a people pleaser she was practicing how to lay her head the night before she was executed, also I heard that the Executioner was not so trained so on the first time instead of her getting killed right away the axe went into her back first and then they had to do it again she was probably in so much pain... to put it bluntly Katharine lived and died in agony

During All You Wanna Do you could see it in her dance movements how irritated she was getting with the same thing happening to her over and over again with every man she was with, even getting uncomfortable when the other Queens would start touching her, and by the end of the song during the final course her character has a mental break down while singing and starts crying. She literally screams begging to know “When will enough be enough?!”. When the song ended she broke out into tears and left the audience in shock from her sad story. She was amazing! I think people misunderstand this song in that she wanted to be married to Henry and wanted to be with Thomas, but her excitement about meeting Henry could just be the fact that she knows the king and that he gave her a career. She did say she was done with boys, but of course she couldn’t reject the king. And when she began singing about Thomas, she emphasized the fact that they were just friends and nothing more. The sadness in the end, in my personal opinion, didn’t seem like it was because she went into a relationship hoping for a better one than the last. She just wanted to be friends with a guy who didn’t befriend her just to get with her. Not to mention, she was very young compared to these men, so I think she was most likely with them against her will.

6:55 for those of you who don’t know a lady-in-waiting or court lady is a female personal assistant at a court, attending on a royal woman or a high-ranking noblewoman. Historically, in Europe, a lady-in-waiting was often a noblewoman but of lower rank than the woman to whom she attended. So this means that Kathrine was a maid to a higher noble woman/royal, she was not yet royal herself yet.

12 was indeed the youngest age to get married for girls (boys were 'ready' around age 15'). BUT, is was not normal. Henry VIII's grandmother was married at 12 and had her only child when she was 13 and people thought she was too young for it. It was a miracle she survived. Most noble girls did not get married before 15 - 16, which is still young. People from lower classes got married at healthier ages, because they needed money to get a house, etc. The child marriages were usually reserved for girls from rich families.

@CVanny oooooooh!! Okay thank you I didn’t knew that, yeah that’s messed up, I feel bad for Katherine TwT
@goldenbacon15724 жыл бұрын
CVanny I feel like that's probably true because Henry accused Catherine of Aragon of already sleeping with his brother when Catherine and Arthur (Henry's brother) were married and Arthur hadn't died yet, which was why she supposedly couldn't have a child. But those were probably both excuses to find another woman

The actual charge against her was not disclosing her sexual history to the king. He passed a law after he arrested her that made it treason to not disclose any sexual history to the King within the first 20 days of marriage.

13:31 from I know, The Archbishop of Canterbury at the time, Thomas Cranmer found out that they were hanging out and have affection by looking at a letter. Thomas Cranmer reported to the king. He didn't want to believe Thomas Cranmer but he had to because all of the evidence added up to be that Katherine Howard was 'cheating'. Then he executed Katherine Howard, Thomas Culpepper, and other two

Hey, Christine! The live action/performance is definitely something I recommend after you've finished all of the songs. Just an FYI that all live original cast actions have only 2/6 studio cast. Aimie Atkinson (Howard) and Natalie Paris (Seymour). The rest didn't go off into west end original cast. Um, but I recommend it nontheless. Also the next animatic is Queen's Fight. Not a song, but enjoyable.

I'm pretty sure that Anne was the one he loved the most. Katherine Parr and Catherine of Aragon were the ones he treated as friends more than wives. Anna of Cleves the worst. Katherine Howard lovingly because of her beauty and to possibly recapture his youth because she was young while he wasn't. And jane pretty well, she only was barried where she is today because she gave birth to a son.

Katherine was the youngest of all wives, and suffered from a very young age. She was manipulated by men, and then beheaded before she could know what true love was. Pd: You should watch The animatic of "Queens fight scene" by Damia. It's amazing!
@aimeebrito15652 жыл бұрын
As stated below (sort of) nobody really knows whether she did or didn’t cheat on Henry, but we do now she was being blackmailed by the grandmother’s “secretary”. Her family would have had many rivals and enemies (with their own daughters waiting in the wings) so even if one got wind of a rumor it would have gone e straight to the king’s ear. And now knowing she was being blackmailed, there would at the least be a strange man running in and out of her private apartments. We also know her lady I. Waiting , Jane Parker, was also beheaded because supposedly she had set up meetings between her and the former lover.

1# Henry Manox was actually 31! (GAG!😨) 2# Francis actually did have a relationship with Catherine. It was just that it was a relationship more like the ones today: intimate and loving, which was rather looked down upon at the time 3# Henry didn't behead Catherine out of anger or something. It was some twisted law that a woman had to disclose her intimacy history to her husband within ten days of their hunny moon. Catherine didn't do this, and Henry tried to deny that she had broken this law because he truly loved her, calling her his "English rose without a thorn", but in the end she died.

She was executed at the age of 18, so she was underaged when all of this happend. That's why she uses childish phrases, she was a child.
@cheshireseabra79124 жыл бұрын
She was older with Francis, but still about 15 yo, since she married Henry when she was about 17 (as historians believe) She was his fourth wife maid, per say, and if I'm not mistaken he married the king the same day he divorced Anna of Cleves Thomas was her cousin, btw, and it's believed that Katherine trash talked the king's sexual performance and that's why she was judged with treason (but she did had a LOT of lovers) Also, her marriage only lasted three years, so she was probably executed at the age of 20. To compare, Catherine of Aragon, the first wife, was married 24 years. Henry's first marriage lasted longer than his fifth wife's life
@amyartlover4 жыл бұрын
Katherine's music teacher actually raped her when she was a child and she lived in a girls home without her parents so no one forced her to be with him. Her other partners just used her for her body. When she married Henry, he was 49 and she was around 17. He beheaded her when she was in her early 20's after he found out about her past

Henry Mannox was actually about 36 not 23. Katherine was in fact 13 with Mannox and 14 when she was with Francis. And the night thing at the end when she was in prison, she was practicing laying her head on the block because 1 that's actually something that happened 2 people always thought she was perfect so she wanted people to think she was perfect till the very end :((((((

Now, one important thing to node is that the first guy, Henry Manox, was 32 and groomed by him. The second relationship was, while forbidden, consensual. After marrying Henry VIII, it’s unclear what happened with Thomas, whether it was consensual or not, though most believe otherwise because while waiting for execution in what was essentially prison, they had to take all sharp or dangerous objects from her, because she continuously tried to kill herself. More recent information revealed that Thomas was actually her cousin, leading historians to believe it even more likely was a rape. Essentially, Katherine Howard was executed at age 19 for being raped by her cousin, who was pardoned for his crime. The executioner missed her neck the first time, wedging the axe in her back, leaving her in agony for hours while they tried to get the axe out, only being properly beheaded once they did. King Henry then ordered for Lime to be poured over her corpse, and had her birth documents destroyed. He wanted her erased from history.
@evivanosferatu92034 жыл бұрын
I believe that scene of her in prison is supposed to be her practicing for her execution. She asked for the block to be brought to her the day before so she could practice placing her head on it. Lots of botched executions back then, and she wanted to die with as much grace and dignity as possible.
@christy.ad.perfartsco74 жыл бұрын
14:25 she was beheaded because not only did she sleep with the courtier, Thomas Culpepper, but she had failed to disclose her sexual history with these men before she got married. Thus it sealed her fate. She was not met with a swordsman; she got the axe
