I’m so glad that “All You Wanna Do” made him so uncomfortable because the opening is literally describing her being groomed as a 13 year old by one man, assaulted later on by another (gets what he wants and be won’t take no), realizing from another man she’s viewed as an object, and by the last one knowing that’s all she’ll only ever be seen as that for all her life and most of history.

Has he seen it live since this video? Because the liver version ends dramatically from the cast recording! Howard Ho did a great video on breaking it down, but where as the cast recording has this sort of pristine conclusion like a traditional pop song, in the live version K completely breaks down at the end and erratically sing-screams "Cause all you wanna do is" makes the kissing now, but instead of a satisfying release of breath, she makes a startling gasp as if to signify the last breath she took.

100% agree! It made me really upset when it was a trending audio on tiktok back in 2019 I think. I remember people were using it show their ex and then who they moved onto when K Howard goes “tall, large Henry the 8th, supreme head of the Church of England” cause they don’t understand what this song is actually about. That’s just me being a die hard Broadway fan though and getting mad when the same people who make fun of theater nerds are using songs from musicals 🤷🏼‍♀️

Aimee's studio version of "all you wanna do" is just breathtaking with the way she hits those absolutely wild notes, but if you're interested, I'd recommend watching a live recorded version of Sam Pauly in the same role. It's the same song, but while her notes aren't always as flawless as Aimee's, the emotion she puts into it and the way she Acts Out the song is absolutely hratwrenching. It's definitely worth a watch, at least once, to really feel this song hit as hard as it can on the emotional level. Definitely recommend.

Fun fact - they sampled green sleeves because the original poem the lyrics come from was said to have been written by Henry the 8th to Anne Boleyn! Although it’s nowadays regarded as a myth. The whole musical is full of references and is basically if all the queens became a girl band during the afterlife, with each one of them being heavily inspired on 1 famous female pop artist.

Oh, definitely I saw six on Broadway, and after the song there was a huge silence in the room for a good couple of seconds the audience didn’t know what to do with themselves, or how to clap after what they just took and it was a lot to take in, but like Despite how emotional it was, it was also super powerful and the songs just generally good! I love how we get to dive deep in and told us what it was like for the queens, and what it was like with Henry and all the different trials and tribulations they went through, but at the end of the show, at least still came up and empowered each other and lifted them up instead of tearing each other down.

The "birds and the bees" in All you wanna do, was to represent the fact Katherine was extremely young and most likely didnt understand sexual deeds.
@queendom7125
@queendom7125 2 жыл бұрын
So if you want historical context on Katherine Howard, the “All you wanna do” song, here it is: So Katherine was executed for an affair she was having with a member of Henry VIII’s court, Thomas Culpeper. She was put on trial and investigated, which is when it was discovered that she’d had sex with two other men before her marriage to Henry, which was Henry Mannox and Francis Dereham. Deeeham and Culpeper were both executed with Katherine. There’s a lot of debate on what exactly happened in Katherine’s relationship with these men, because Katherine was labeled as a whore and temptress, much in the way Anne Boleyn was, after her death by Henry and his court. It is believed that at the very least she was groomed and molested by Dereham, and there’s a decent possibility Culpeper assaulted Katherine, considering the fact that he bragged about seducing Katherine in his letters and he had a history of assaulting women. Katherine was as young as 17 when she was killed, and she met Henry when she was as young as 15 while Henry was 49. All you want to do goes into that, with Katherine describing how she was groomed and molested by these men, from a very young age, before being killed for “allowing it to happpen”. It’s a very sad song, and yes, a bop

Fun fact: Katherine Howard, the character that sang All You Wanna Do is actually the youngest queen that ever married Henry the 8th, she was 19 when she was beheaded. Another fun fact: Anne Boelyn in history was said to be beheaded because she had an affair, when she really was beheaded because she didn’t have a son. Henry’s entire intention was to have a son, but both his first two wives couldn’t fulfill that. Actually in Ex Wives Jane says that she was the favorited wife, because she did have a son but a few days later she died due to birth complications.

The queens in the musical actually have their songs (and outfits) based off of pop divas. For Get down, Anna of Cleves is inspired by Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. For All You Wanna Do, Katherine Howard, is based off of Britney Spears and her clothing design is based off of Ariana Grande. For Don't Lose Ur Head, Anne Boleyn, is based off of Avril Lavigne. I think it's cool as you can really see the influence and the balance between historical leader queens and our modern day entertainment queens. All being pretty badass. Other Queens: Catherine of Aragon - Beyonce Jane Seymour - Adele, I think Sia too Catherine Parr - Alicia Keys

Boleyn is mainly based on Lily Allen. Christina's voice in the original sounds almost exactly like Lily's. Aragon is also has latin pop and salsa elements, so J-Lo and Shakira are also inspirations. Parr is also partially based on another well-known British singer, Emeli Sande.

I have a soft spot for HoS because it was the one musical theatre piece my vocal coach really believed in me for. She knew I liked musical theatre and I think she could tell that I was growing bored at lessons, so she asked me to give her a list of musicals that I liked. Heart of Stone was the song she selected out of the options. I worked my ass off for some of those notes and rhythms. It's a song I didn't really view as difficult, but the experience of getting it down to the best of my ability really showed me the work and commitment it takes to learn these songs.

Heart of Stone is literally my guilty pleasure song. I love the musical for its love-letter-ness to the queens and I’m aware Jane’s character has been criticized for not getting much into who she was outside of a loving wife. I’m aware of that but I’m sorry it’s just so gut-wrenching. The character of Jane in the musical is so tragic, with the idea of a woman who continued loving and never let her spirit break despite her “true love” very clearly using her. It just… it never fails to make me cry. Especially live.

The reason the "six wives" sounds so strange is because it's using the notes of Greensleeves, even though they don't really fit into the song, showing how their relationship to Henry (which is represented by Greensleeves throughout the show) doesn't fit into their lives. However, in the end, they sing an altered version of Greensleeves that does fit the song, showing how their lives are better without him and they reclaimed their story.

I think that’s partly because the soundtrack has 1. Different people from live (Anne Boleyn’s west end, forgetting her name rn, has a more grungy voice and more of a rock like performance throughout the whole song while the cast recording slowly builds that up so that when she’s in her final moments she’s able to rock out as much as she wants while at the start her life was being controlled by the men in it, thus the doll like dancing)

Iove the detail in All You Wanna Do where Katherine switches from "maybe this is it" with Mannox to "I know this is it" with Dereham. Supposedly in history she and Dereham were actually lovers and referred to one another in letters as husband and wife which one of the reasons Henry had her executed. But that whole wife of Culpeper has no merit to it whatsoever and it was people romanticizing.

I can't stress this enough. Matthew your word choice for describing those last 2 songs was perfect. All you wanna do: "Stripping away the extra bits" expressing also what she went through; similarly, the difference in the strings and piano you heard, slamming back down into the standard choral structure, describes how strongly she thought he was different, but then it's always just the same. Don't lose your head: "Teasing me up until the end" Again, describing exactly how she acted. Always teasing, playing games, never committing, until she committed too much to others and was beheaded

When i first heard “All You Wanna Do” i didnt really pay attention to the lyrics, and i wasnt that big of a fan of the beat. When i went to see six live, and that performance came on, i had your *EXACT* reaction! My face was probably looking like it had seen a ghost, bc in the live performance all the other wives (supposed to be representing the men during the last part of the song 👀) were touching Howard all over and stuff. Even though i felt so uncomfortable, i couldnt look away bc of how powerful the performance and song was. It really got me to appreciate it more and its my favorite song in the soundtrack. Plus, i love K. Howard’s character 😅

Unsure if you've reacted to ride the cyclone yet, but if you haven't you should! It's like six (in consept) but insted of 6 dead wives trying to see who had the words life it's 6 dead teens competing to see who gets to come back to life. (And I heavily suggest watching the recordings of the performances insted of the album covers, *ESPECIALLY* for the ballad of jane doe)

I seen this show when it came to Belfast. I didn't think I cried so much at a show, I fan girl when I saw the Queens go on stage. It was how I reacted whenever I saw One Direction or Jonas Brothers. That level of excitement because I've been listening to this soundtrack all over lockdown. But the soundtrack hits different now after seeing them live. Horrible Histories was from Henry's pov, we never got to see his wives pov until this show. I felt so bad for those poor girls. To think they all fell in love with him and they thought they were going somewhere. He sleeps around but whenever they do it or fall for someone who isn't the king, they get beheaded.

One of the interesting touches they did with each queen was modelled their look and sound after some modern ladies in pop: Beyonce, Lily Allen, Adelle, Rihana (I think?), Ariana Grande and Alicia Keys. I love hearing the soul in number 6 for that reason.

six is the story about king henry IIV six wives singing in a battle to see whos the best like. wife and their stories. and in order to remember all their endings it’s divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived! the second beheaded wife was anne boleyn who was beheaded for accusations of cheating ! im pretty sure although that they werent true and henry just wanted an excuse to get married to another of his wives ( jane seymour) and tortured a servant until he lied and revealed a “relationship” with anne ! but ironic how henry wanted a heir (a son) but instead he got the most powerful queen queen elizabeth I ! her song was dont lose your head. she also was a lady in waiting for henrys first wife catherine of aragon. (guess where henry got his wives from. yea all his past wives lady in waitings.) because at the time henry couldn’t divorce he broke off from the pope and he and anne created the church of england with a whole new bible and all and boom sent catherine of aragon to a nunnery and married anne. the second divorce is anne of cleves her song was get down the whole story is before a wedding they gotta get their “picture” (painting really) taken and henry was a really big romance guy so he decided to dress as a hobo and meet with anne? now henry had gone thru an an accident that probs made him 1. infertile? just alot of shit and he was considered “less attractive” then in his younger years so when anne saw this hobo looking guy, she ignored him! henry was so hurt he decided to make the excuse of that anne doesnt look like her picture and simply divorced. she probs got the best ending cause she got a seat in the court and a mansion. her and henry became good friends actually !! and for the other song u listened to, all you wanna do! that one is about katherine howard (i think henry liked catherines) she was around 18? when she died im very unsure but she was married to henry! and like anne boleyn some stuff went out of her cheating or so and ultimately got beheaded :/

HISTORY STUDENT DONT COME @ ME!! THIS IS FROM MEMORY FROM YEARS AGO AND THE MUSICAL!! Catherine Aragon- the one who was almost forced into a nunary by Henry because she couldn't preduce a male heir. But due to being Catholic it was against her religion for Henry to remarry after divorce. Anne Boleyn- she was a Mistress (?) While Henry was still with Aragon. Eventually Henry broke it off with Catherine, but Henry wasn't the best. So eventually Anne was accused of treason, by apparently flirting with other men. She was then beheaded. Jane Seymour- she died of natural causes after giving birth to her son. So people say she was the only one Henry truly loved, but the probability of Henry divorcing her if the child wasn't make was quite high so I disagree. Anna Cleves- idk much about her. But, I believe she was one of the women that had their portraits painted. And then Henry would choose the most beautiful to court and marry. Henry chose Anna, but she didn't look as good as her painting so he divorced her. I do not know if she produced any children. Katherine Howard- some poeple say she was sexually assaulted multiple time while growing up. Eventually she met Henry, everything was fine. But he was just lazy and didn't really care. I can't fully remember. But I think Katherine either cheated or was sexually assaulted again by a subordinate of Henry's. She was then beheaded. Catherine Parr- the only wife to out live Henry, the surviver. I do not know much about her, so I don't know if she produced any kids. all I know is that she lived longer than Henry. HISTORY STUDENT DONT COME @ ME!! THIS IS FROM MEMORY FROM YEARS AGO AND THE MUSICAL!!
