Hey I'm ten too! I'm organizing to foster cats and convinced my parents to let me(Being ten means you have cuteness powers-it was still pretty hard though.) Oh, it's good to know someone whose cats want different type of food every time. I always get worried when everyone say "Oh, cats are a creature of habit and swapping food is bad" and my cat will literally not eat the same food twice in a row (We have 5 or so types that we rotate)

Mine are very fussy too ... except with their dry food... I feed them the Applaws adult chicken dry food with 80% meat - grain-&sugarfree and they love that so much. But with their wet food they are fussy... but my female cat she developped severe diarrhea so my Vet said for her I shouldn’t switch out the food as regularly ... but her brother he prefers different kinds of wet food and won’t eat anything if I try to keep him on one thing for a while

i've encountered people asking why i don't feed my cats a vege /vegan diet... while i seethe internally, i ask them: would you feed a horse/cow/other herbivore meats? no. no you would not,because they aren't carnivores... well, other species are carnivores - they weren't born to eat vegetables.

it's also quite selfish to choose to make them vegan/vegetarian because they didn't choose to have that kind of diet. they aren't like humans that can have the choice to survive on veggies. I have rescued over 100 Cats or kittens. I use to concentrate on TNR to reduce cat population. I am now with a wonderful agency and do mostly babies and bottle feed. I also work at a Pet Store and work as their cat specialist. The information I have received from this channel is excellent, I want to Thank you. Everyone that adopts a kitten or family interested, I give your address to help them. I have been up at 3 a.m during desperate time when baby would not take a bottle, and thank God you were there to help. Keep up with every bit of love and information you give the world.

I once took temporary care of two kittens from a litter a friend was taking care of, when I returned them the little guys were twice the size of their litter mates. I gave them kitten food I think the rest of the kittens were given adult cat food. what a huge difference it made.

It definitely does. When I got my baby girl 2 years ago, she was emaciated, apparently the person I got her from gave all the kittens adult food. It doesn't have all the nutrients kittens need.

I have ten cats and feeding them drains almost all my income, not even counting the vet visits and spaying and neutering them (which I've thankfully completed) but they're all worth it. In this world where most people talk to you because they need something from you, they are my furry form of comfort and love.

There are a lot of additives in Royal Canin.. I boil chicken for my cat & use Thrive biscuits 80% meat for during night snacks, occasional raw egg with tuna if she needs variety x

You do know cats require taurine and other vitamins in their diet? Don’t just feed them chicken & eggs. They will end up lacking nutrients. I’m all for making their food. Just make sure to include all other necessary nutrients that cats require.

Cats in the wild would eat their prey whole, and get vitamins and minerals from e.g. organ meat, and just muscle meat may not cut it. Unless you're replicating that or supplementing, which would require plenty of research, you probably are better off using a good quality cat food. I use Thrive as well, I think they're great; they also do a wet food which basically is boiled chicken (or other meat depending on the flavour) with stock and the required supplements. No joke, I feel like if I had no food in the house I could happily tuck into a tin myself with a little salt and pepper. It is expensive though.

I am a bit surprised of the colab from a kitten focused perspective, cats are obligate carnivores, feeding the a carbohydrate heavy food to an animal who requires no carbs is not really in line with what I feel is the best nutrition for cats. I raise all my kittens on a rotation of raw foods, meat based kibble and canned kitten foods. I will say this though; royal canin does make foods for very, very specific health needs, like James. Many cats need a hyper-specific diet to help with pinpoint conditions, and having those diets available saves a lot of cats. For a healthy adult cat who has no health conditions, I wouldn't recommend standard royal canin food, instead a meat based diet that honors a cats entire body

I am fostering a 9 week old kitten, Sandy, from an animal rescue organization. Sandy is incontinent and cannot walk unless I help him lift his bottom. The vet at the animal rescue examined him and said most likely he has a neurological issue. The animal rescue doesn't have the resources for a wheelchair or for further examination from a neurologist. They are going to euthanize Sandy. Do you know of any cat or animal rescues that accepts special needs kittens? I am located in Florida.

Royal Kanin received a grade C from ALL ABOUT CATS. HILLS SCIENCE DIET WAS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. IT ISN'T as good as their claims.

Hills Science Diet is not my favorite, either. However, Royal Canin is my absolute favorite dry food for Moms and little kittens. I call the dry food Baby Cat, because that is what Royal Canin used to call it. I think it’s called Moms and Baby cats, now (something like that). I also like their wet kitten food. I also like ProPlan Kitten wet and dry food a lot, too. I avoid Science Diet.

@Yousif Badawy sure. But it's not easy to keep up with a kitten's *insane* energy if you aren't a kitten yourself. So getting a companion for it will ensure you get some breathing time. Also kittens tire each other out by playing aggressively. Again, you get a breather.

fencingowlphotos Wet food is so much better than dry food for cats! Since they don’t really drink much water, they need food with a high moisture percentage, which is why wet is better than dry. Be sure that it’s high quality though, wet food can still be full of carbohydrates (sometimes up to 30-50% when it should only be 1-2% of a cat’s diet). You can find carbohydrates calculator online to find out how much carbs is in your cat’s food. In the video they ignore that problem by saying « well other brands replace grains with other carbohydrates » and they’re right, you should look out for more than just grains. But saying « yeah well other brands are bad too » doesn’t mean R.C. is better or blameless...

I successfully syringe/bottle fed a litter of 4 kittens than were discovered by some young teens. It took some talking, but I eventually ended up with all four. Hand raised kittens are the BEST PETS. TWO went to a teacher at my kids school and the other two to two other families.

Awesome! I found a 4-5 week old kitten cold and wet on a sidewalk in May and got her home, washed her off (ants and fleas) and immediately ran to petco for Kmr formula and bottle. I had to help her urinate for several days but then she picked up on using the clay litter in a box very quickly. She’s now 11 weeks. This is great information. My questions is that I have been adopted by a outside cat that has an ear tip. She showed up this spring and has decided my home is her home. I have been feeding her a very high protein diet but she has gained way too much weight. What should I be feeding her and how much. I really want to be feeding her correctly.

I've had a lot of success getting my cat to lose weight by getting an automatic feeder. It portions out the food exactly and I can program in gradual decreases. Plus it's cut down on him begging because I'm not directly feeding him. He's gotten to the point where he doesn't eat it all at once, too.

If you can guess how much she weighs, or how much weight she needs to lose, then you can google how many calories she should be eating, then check how many calories you're feeding her and adjust appropriately!

ai965 This is just my opinion. I never recommend using automatic feeders. The feeder machines are high maintenance, and the food put in them can get bacteria on it. Also, as with people, cat’s do not eat the exact same amount of food every day, nor should they be fed the exact same food, unless a vet has prescribed a food for a medical condition. Also, a person should feed their loved pet every day. It’s so much more fun, and a good way to keep in touch with what’s going on with your cat’s health.

Take her to the vets, please! They will recommend a suitable diet plan for her, and also check that the weight gain isn't due to any illnesses! Former strays are more likely to be eating more than they need because they might've not known where they're getting their next meal, and so their mentality with food might be a bit different :)

There are so many great foods out there on the market. Some foods don't work well with every cat, just like not every food sits well with every person. There is a lot of experimentation sometimes with finding the right food for an individual cat. It can be frustrating, but once you find one that works well, it can be a big relief. Quality is always important though.

That was an awesome interview! Although, as mentioned in there, we tend to stray away from carbs... Carbs are an important element in a diet, be it for cats, kittens, dogs ot puppies. Or humans. Have a friend that went for a keto diet religiously and... After running a couple of dozens of kilometers, he discovered a chocobar worked better than jerky. It's all about the right balance, and for kittens, the balance is mostly proteins + fat, vitamins (etc., in short), then some carbs to let them have the immediate energy to play around (which we have to spend, as owners/foster parents).

You know how some people get allergy shots? Well, for many people, having a cat is like getting a cat-allergy shot every day! It's no guarantee, but fingers crossed your allergies get better over time after you rescue one!

I’m hoping someone here could help me with my query, if not answered already 😬😬👍🏻 my kitten is 8 months old and he doesn’t eat the solid part of wet food, he licks the liquid around but doesn’t chew the soft bits. It’s a good pouch for kittens from Science Hills brand. He eats his dry food but I wanted to understand why he leaves the best part of the wet food, or at least what I believe it’s the best part, clearly not for kitten Charlie. Thank you 🙏

Hi Hannah, I am planning to get a feral kitten (6 weeks old) in a few days and I looked your wet and dry food options. Questions though: Do i need to feed the kitten with only wet food ? , wet and dry food? , or wet food until certain age and the change it to fry food ? My cat only ate raw meat and left everything else, also never drank only my soup leftowers. He had leukosis from his mom or something, He was vaxed againdt it but it still won over him. But he was so healthy looking we didnt knkw until he was 7 and had to he put down

Adult cat food isn't likely to support growth better than kitten food. The growth rate of older kittens should naturally slow down compared to when they were little babies, but kitten food will still be better for them - they are still growing and developing. If they really have stopped growing at that age that could be cause for concern. A vet will be able to examine your kittens and give you much better advice than someone on the internet, even an extremely knowledgeable someone. Kitten Lady can't examine your kittens.

kitten food tends to be higher in calories, fat, and protein than cat food - can cause your cat to gain excess weight as it's designed for growing kittens. would suggest trying to switch her to adult food. experiment with different flavours & brands :)

How about feeding a strictly raw meat diet? I'm cautious about that because like you said, even obligate carnivours also get the veggies and carbs their prey have just eaten. Raw meat by itself doesn't include those, so I'm concerned that a raw meat diet might be deficient. Also, what about the risk of germs and parasites in uncooked meat?

I wouldn't recommend it. I know lots of people mean well when they want to switch or switch to raw diet but in this day and age there's really no reason to risk giving your cat tuberculosis or other dangerous disease when you can just buy canned cat food that has been formulated to meet your cat's dietary requirements. Cats don't eat lots of carbs but they are not as bad as people make them out to be. Raw meat hold less nutrients and the body as difficulty absorbing them in their raw state and bones in general can cause fractured teeth. You're better off sticking to generic cat food brands, the ones that say are complete diets, that is.

Royal canin to me is eye candy. It doesn't have any healthy natural ingredients. It has too much carbs. Also by products. My cat got so sick and obese on this food.

Twisty Sunshine It’s good then that cats are adapted to eating raw meat. Their stomach fluid is so sour that it kills bacteria. And I find it funny how cats have survived for hundreds and thousands of years by eating raw meat but now all of a sudden it’s dangerous? You can’t compare humans to cats since they are strict carnivores, their whole bowel system is built to handle it. What they aren’t built to digest is carbohydrates, which is a main ingredient in almost all dry food.

Which Royal Canin would you recommend for my kittens once they turn 12 months? They are spayed/neutered (I have brother and sister littermates) and are 100% indoors and have no known health issues. RC has so many different options that seem to fit their needs that I have no idea what to choose. They are currently on the Kitten Spayed/Neutered dry and they each get 1/2 of a 3 oz can of Kitten wet food. They just turned 4 months old so I just moved them off of Babycat. Thanks!!

rabbitquartet , I disagree. We had our last cat on their prescription renal care diet. He was expected to live 6-12 months after he was diagnosed and he lived 3 1/2 years. I attribute this in part to the RC renal care diet and and the fact that he loved it and gobbled up every morsel. That’s why we decided to go with Royal Canin with our newly adopted kittens.

Watching this as I anxiously search the Internet for what could be wrong with my 3yo tuxedo. She has gone off her food and is acting not herself. I have a 2 month old kitten that I got 3 weeks ago and when we first got her she was always kneading, and after we introduced her to our downstairs and moved her there, she would only knead once or twice after being down there. We also noticed that she doesn’t eat at night, and will only eat in the morning if we are standing right next to her, and even then she would keep looking back to make sure we weren’t leaving. Are these normal behaviors or are they things we need to be doing something about?

They need to be taken to a vet and vaccinated and mamma spayed and babies spayed/neutered when age appropriate firstly. A vet will give you care advice if you plan to keep/care for them. Or they can be turned over to a shelter where everything will be taken care of there and they will be found good homes.
