Tom Scott sent me. We had a pet ferret when I was a kid. It was a feral ferret that got into our garage and we just made a home for him there. Named him Merlin. Funnily enough we "adopted" him even after he bit me. Talk about a core memory, lol. We heard something out in the garage and we all went out to look, realized it was a ferret, and I stood there, like 9 years old, making kissy noises at him trying to get him to come out from where he was hiding. Eventually he streaks out and jumps up and bites my inner thigh. I think we had him for 2 years before he died from some common problem in ferrets or something. Man, that was almost 40 years ago.

I make ferret harnesses out of two loops of Velcro and keychain rings. I also have a tracking device called a Tile attached to the harness. With this, I can use my phone to locate my ferret. I'm really glad he has the proper installations for these animals. They are incredibly intelligent and sensitive, and throw tantrums when raised by people if they don't get enough attention and love (one used to hide the owners things, toothbrush included and not allow cuddles if he was ignored after she got home from work lol) so I was shocked at first because I saw the tiny chicken cages but there is a wider area with fresh air where they explore and have a nice time so that's really nice! I have two ferrets. Hiding things is just what they do, it's not a tantrum thing. When they're comfortable in an enviroment they'll allocate a spot where they want to hide everything. I heard an anecdote about a team of electricians with a dachshund (i guess this is the English name for it, a sausage-like dog basically) who where very effective at running cables in ceilings in office buildings. One guy would let the dog in through a removed ceiling tile and the guy on the other end would point a flashlight at the dog to show it the destination. Sometimes a tile would not support the weight of the dog and it would fall through, but it was alright as it there was a wire holding it, and the the dog was quite used to it.
