The reason they are friendly is because they are only a couple months old, and they are still mainly focused on surviving than fighting so I would suggest that you have 2 colonies fight each other after like 6-9 months so they can become strong enough to defend themselves.

Ok youll probably get a kick out of this- when i was a kid, i lived on a pretty good size bit of land in rural florida. Well, i was a terrible student at school, and so every report card would be bad, and my parents put me on 'restriction' for a while, trying to motivate me. I was so bored that i would watch the bull ants in their beds, etc. In time i learned to catch bull ants, i would crouch, gently pinch the ant, roll him gently (to remove sand) then drop him, unharmed, into a mason jar. I got so good at this, that at times i could have the bull ants three inches deep in the jar, with almost NO sand at the bottom. Now: i know this is trivial, (i was 12 or so) but very few people have experienced the sound of a jar with that many (annoyed) ants in it! I tell you it sounds like being above a soccer stadium full of cheering, roaring people-in miniature! The smell is odd too, the ants clearly emit a 'chemical' odor. Not offensive, just odd. Well, i eventually learned how to catch 'carpenter ants too, and THATS tricky, they are quick and have serrated mandibles (jaws) for chewing through old wood, etc. In central florida, both these types of ants are common. The third kind of ants i found (on occasion) were long black ants, that always seemed to be alone, on their way somewhere. (As opposed to in colonies) someone told me they were called 'traveller' ants. Ok: one afternoon i made a 'colliseum' out of builder sand my dad was using for something. Then i collected about 50 bull ants, about 30 carpenter ants, and (i could only find about 7) traveller ants. All in seperate jars. I fixed up the 'colliseum' with walls of sand so the ants couldnt escape, and dumped the ants in. The level 'floor' of the colliseum was about 8 inches by ten. Immediately the ants began fighting, and in a few minutes i realized the long but thinner 'traveller' ants were very good fighters! (This surprised me because they had the smallest 'jaws' of all the ants engaged. The carpenter ants did ok, were quite aggressive, but the standard 'bull' ants had tougher, almost 'shell' like bodies. The bull ants were more or less winning, because of this, and there were more of them. Each 'traveller' ant would require 4 or 5 bull ants to subdue it. My mom called me in for dinner, and when i came back out 30 minutes later, the bull ants had won the battle, and-get this- had piled up the dead in orderly, SEPERATE piles! It never occured to my A.D.D. a.s.s to make extra credit at school!

I got... really suprised with the result of your test, if i need to be honest, i was also expecting a ant war to happen, but they didn't became hostile to each other, but instead, they worked like they we're one single colony of fire ants. I went to search for awnsers if something like that was actually possible, and it looks like there can be one or multiple queens at the same time, depending on the species of the fire ants, i do think it is possible to happen, but only with some certain species of fire ants, not all, but a few of them. I don't want to transform this comment into a debate discussion, is just for... to make things clear for what i was able to find to make sure if everything was right.
