You are ‘da bomb’!!!! Instead of one T-fuse I used an MTBF fuse on each positive battery terminal, just a slight edge on safety. I also put an on-off switch on the positive side (after the shunt of course) so anytime I have to work on the positive battery cables there is no ground connection for them to short across a random wrench or dropped screwdriver.

I'm an electrical engineer, and I'm impressed with the level of design detail in this. I would recommend some better lugs for the high current cables, with more metal and surface area to connect to the batteries. This implementation is forcing a lot of electrons through some (IMO) undersized cable lugs, which can get hotter than they should. Nice job, especially on the fusing and disconnects.

Great Review Jared! Just want to make sure I fully understand your setup. Tell me if I've got my couple of points right. 1) Your switch marked RV Load Disconnect cuts power from the MPPT to the Batteries. 2) Your Bus Bars are used for 12V supply to your 12V Breaker panel section and your Tow Vehicle Charging from either the MPPT or Battery as situation permits, if MPPT has higher voltage than Battery, it will charge batteries and feed 12V Fusebox. (Sorry not sure if MPPT is powered from Solar only or 12V battery or Both as available.) Thanks for all your hard work!

Will it only power those inverted outlets? 3. If so, if I want to power the entire rig I should run new wiring from inverter directly to the rig panel correct? @jeffthompson91893 жыл бұрын
Kind of a long question so if you can be patient please. A question that may or may not be unusual, I've watched yours and several videos on the 2/120 inverter. I ordered and received one in August, but have yet to install it. The reason is this. My 50 amp 2006 Winnebago came factory with a 2000 watt dimensions inverter. The main distribution panel has of course the 2 50 amp breakers, but also a 30 amp breaker labeled "Inverter" Then it has a sub panel that also has a 30 amp breaker labeled sub-main and several 15 amp breakers marked Refrigerator, microwave, receptacle 1 receptacle 2 receptacle 3. Prior to the failure of my old inverter, I never paid much attention but realized that only those items in the sub-main could be run with the inverter. I assumed, (apparently incorrectly) that the 30 amp breaker in the main panel just supplied power to the old charger/inverter and the 30 amp sub fed all the items I listed above. As the new Victron 2/120 appeared a little complicated, and I was short on time to head off for the winter, I just grabbed a Renogy 2000 watt inverter that wired directly into the 120 in and 120 out and of course the 12v from the failed inverter. What I subsequently found out, it appears that all the power from the 30 amp breaker in the main panel, goes out, and comes back to the 30 amp breaker in the sub panel through the inverter/charger. I say this, because even on a 50 amp shore power, if I turn the inverter/charger off all those items I listed in the subpanel do not work. In fact even with it on, if I have been off shore power for a few days, and the batteries are somewhat discharged, (not dead by any means but maybe 70%) the charge portion goes into a heavy load, and if I try to run the microwave it trips the inverter/charger and all the sub panel goes dead. After the batteries are charged, and the charge rate is back down then I can run the other devices. (the charger will put a maximum 65 amp battery charge so that's a lot of watts just being used to charge) So here' the question. I understand both legs or the 50 amp shore power go directly through the new Victron, but what do I do about the 120 input/output for the old inverter/charger that feeds from the main back to the subpanel? Should I just tie them together now that I have both legs going through the new Victron? Would it be safe to just put a junction box in the electrical bay and tie them together since currently the go through the Renogy inverter/charge? Also the Victron has a second source of output at 120 above the main 120 connections, that I understand is inverter power only out, if you want to set it up so when on inverter only just certain circuits are powered. Am I dreaming that I can wire this with both legs going through the inverter/charger and also having a connection so when I am on inverter only just the subpanel runs? Getting this set up working will be great as I spend all winter on 30 amp, and the ability to run more than 30 amp for a period of time, (daytime) and having the batteries recharge at night would solve a lot of power management problems. Any insight you can give or steer me towards someone who can would be appreciated. PS: Your videos are great. You don't talk a bunch of BS and make a 12-15 minute video last 1/2 hour. Keep it up. Thanks in advance.

Dude, are you psychic or something? We just got a Jayco White Hawk 29BH which has a 50-amp system and you have just described my ultimate power system. Your content and presentation are great and I am an avid consumer of your videos. This one (as well as many others) I've watched a few times now. In part because it is oh so relevant to where I want to get with my Jayco. But, where do I start? I can't afford a big bang approach. I need to spread out my cash flow and build out this configuration over time. Can you do a video as a corollary to this one that lays out a logical sequence of steps to a build-out over time? Here is what I'm starting with: 1) a go Power 190-watt solar panel roof-mounted; 2) a Go Power GP-PWM-30-UL Bluetooth solar controller mounted in the bedroom; 3) I have upgraded the AGM 88 Ah Marine batter to a 100 Ah Lithium; and 4) a Progressive Dynamics PD4560 power converter on which I've moved the mode switch to LI. This Jayco does not come with an inverter. My current upgrade plan is 1) expand the battery bank to 200 Ah in a box on the tongue; 2) install a hardwired EMS; 3) add the Victron 500 amp SmartShunt; 4) add the MultiPlus II and 400 amp T fuse; 5) add 2 x 190-watt solar panels; 6) upgrade the PWM solar controller to MPPT, and 7) increase battery bank further to between 300 and 400 Ah (perhaps moving it inside the front storage area). If lucky, I'll complete all these steps by end of 2022. But it might take me well into 2023. Is this plan reasonable or short-sighted? I suspect many of your subscribers would love to see you outline an upgrade path, and if you want to critique my plan I promise I can stand the embarrassment as long as I learn from it.

BUT- to be clear, in power share mode it only shares or boosts 120 volts on both legs if connected to 30 amp or 15 amp mode and the inverter only does 120v?? What happens if you turn the 220v A/C on?? I’m not really understanding that part of it. I really want to know more on the power sharing feature since I have a 50 amp trailer with 3 /c units on the roof. Can you make a video solely on this feature and the warnings of this inverter and what it offers?? Thanks

You should also mention that the Magnum MSH3012 RV has the same dual in dual out and smart phase

Hey Jared. Hope you're doing well. We have a 2023 Grand Design Reflection Travel Trailer and an Onan 30A portable inverter generator. I am getting ready to install a Victron MultiPlus II Inverter. Since I'll only be using the generator with my power cord, when I am not on shore power, is there any need for an ATS? BTW, your videos were a HUGE help when I installed my two Battleborn GC3 batteries...thank you! The inverter is the next step!

Can you do a video of two of these Multipluses in parallel config, specifically the wiring?

Thanks Jared. We love your videos, great information. I'll be installing the 2x-120 MP in our motorhome and was wondering if you implemented a bypass for the inverter. Victron's "Wiring Unlimited" document mentioned a bypass but I have not found any actual examples out in the wild. Thanks again for all you do.

Thank you Jared! Can I shift gears to your 120V wiring. I think I heard you are using flex cable from the surge protector to the Multi-plus2. However I think I followed you to use 6 gauge THHN wires in pvc conduit fro the out feed from the inverter to the panel due to temperature. Not sure I understand why? You talked about high amperage 120v source. I have an external 30amp inverter as an alternate source. Anyways -- hope you can help me understand the neutral carrying the high current - hence the need for THHN wiring. Sorry but this is important to me as this fall I will likely follow you on this install in a Grand Design 303RLS that we just bought a year ago.

Such an in depth walkthrough, so much to unpack! I’ve watched this scores of times and studied the wiring diagram, but still have a few questions. I understand you run the AC wires from the MP II to the breaker panel through PVC conduit. Should I use the same 6 gauge THHN wire from my Automatic Transfer Switch to the MP II, and should I also use conduit for that run as well? If so, can I use the same conduit to run both sets of wire? (My ATC & breaker panel are close to each other, but a long run from the MP II). I don’t yet have a solar system, but plan to add it in the future. Is there any reason I shouldn’t use the buss bars now when wiring my system to connect just the battery bank, MP II, ATC, and breaker panel? (don’t plan on incorporating a DC to DC charger) My thought is that this will simplify a future solar integration. Thanks so much for all you do!

I have similar questions. Look at the video again and at 1:17 you can see the conduit for both runs into and out of the inverter. Also at this point it looks to me that the THHN wiring is different gauges. The green ground looks thinnest (10ga?). Black and red hot wires look about the same (8 ga?) and the white neutral looks to be the largest (6 ga?). Using THHN allows you to do this where you can’t with Romex. THHN wires have higher amperage ratings than their Romex equivalents. And it makes sense, as more current (from both hot legs)will return through that white neutral wire.

So on this build did you basically just ignore everything wiring related on the RV that was existing except for the rv breaker panel? It looks like you even took the existing power input and rewired it to go to the multiplus? And run new wires to the breaker panel? Did you leave existing point of load wiring and plugs inside? I just bought a toy hauler and planning my build out so I'm trying to get an idea of what I need to keep, rewire, or replace.

Jared - from the front bay view, it does not look like you reinforced the support wall for the Multiplus2. I presume you likely reinforced the other side? Can you share what you used to ensure the wall can carry the weight of the Multiplus2?

Nice installation job. Apart from the electrical side did You fabricate things like the battery tray or where did You get it. I am doing an install on a class A and find mounting heavy components is trickier than the wiring up of things.

Great video. I have a 4 six volt battery system with a GoPower 3000 inverter. I’ve bought all the Victron stuff including the 2x120 multiplus. Even tho I will be installing in our Class A - your diagram is spot on for me. Question - I bought the Lynx distributor (and also have buss bars). Do you regret not getting the Lynx? Or did you not think it was needed? Got me wondering if I should even use it.

Great video! I’m about to pull the trigger on Victron equipment and I’m curious since I have a Onan on my coach would it be beneficial to go with the Quattro 2 since it has dual AC inputs or use a Multiplus 2 and continue utilizing the factory transfer switch in the coach

For those RVers (including myself) who want to "copy/paste" this system, and are intimidated by the DIY aspect, or don't have the skillset...Having this system built and installed at a reputable company is VERY CHALLENGING! I've contacted numerous service centers and they don't call back, they don't email back...I guess business is so good they don't care!?! CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND a company in the Los Angeles area to build and install this system?!

Great video, thanks. Does it have the capability to connect via Victron Connect to access/change the settings?

Meaning…can it be configured/monitored through the app, or is the dongle required for configuration?

Elegant video and diagrams. Did you consider one of the all in one solar charge controller, inverter like Growatt SPF 3000w 120v/240v Solar Inverter? I am considering the advantages and disadvantages of 24 volts.
