Hi Dave, thanks for the video--it's really helpful! I especially enjoyed the science/theory behind it. We are two weeks into our X32, so we've got it going but we will be tweaking it over the next couple months or so. We have our acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and piano (one mic) set up using this technique--muting the doubled channels for our main mono PA and adding the delay etc for our livestream. Thanks again, and keep up the great work!

Its amazing how the sound changes from beeing at the total front to real surrounding sound when you turn on the 14ms

Yes, it’s pretty cool to trick the brain and offer a different sound with just one input. If you are using effects like reverb in your mix, make sure to only send the non-delayed signal into the FX rack.

Hi Allen, Great videos on the X32 thanks. Is there a chance you would be making a video on using and routing external outboard gear in a recording/mixing situation? Thanks again for your great work.
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
I certainly can. Do you mean like outboard compressors, EQ (insert FX) or reverbs, delays (send FX)?

@@AllamHouse Yes exactly I can send audio from Logic Pro "io" or even a directly to a channel on the x32 (Card-In) but tapping that signal then sending it to an outboard compressor/dly effect, round-tripping it back to the board input, and back to logic. If I do this via (io) Logic has Latency Compensation so that's the optimal choice. Thank you for your time.

I see. The short answer is you can use a bus, route it out USB and then back into the AUX inputs (via USB) to come into the desk. I’ll try to make a video about it, but that is the basic concept. Keep in mind this will take up some of your 32/32 across USB so if you are multi tracking as well you might run into some limitations. Also, going through a computer for FX is generally acceptable, but the latency will vary based on your computer.

Will I still need a second XLR cable to be plugged at the back of the console of the duplicated channel in order to hear the stereo width in my livestream.
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 2 жыл бұрын
No, you plug in one input channel (one cable from your guitar) and then you duplicate it internally (digitally).

Hi Dave, i have a question, for which i didnt find a solution on KZbin yet. My Drummer needs a Stereo output for his stereo IEM. Ofcourse he needs to listen stereo too. In this case i have 2 questions: 1. Monitor busses are Prepafer. i.e. it is also pre Panning. So how can he listen pannin on his IEM's? 2. If he could some how listen Panning , the other probmel ist, i pan the Channels from the point of view of FOH. But Drummer wants to listen it from the Point of view from the Stage. How can i flip this Pannin for the Monitor? Thanks a lot in Advance.

Step 1 is setup your stereo BUS which needs to be starting with an odd number linked to the next even BUS. Once you have done this and raises the input channel in these BUSes (sounds like you are here) you can now hear it in the IEM. Now, select the channel and go to Home > Sends and now you can use the knobs to scroll to the BUS. You can now push the “Follow LR” to deselect it from following your house panning and use the knobs to set pan specific to the IEM. I cover this technique in this video. Check the description for a quick link to panning. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn7RkpyreJpoiLs

Hi Allen, you've been a tremendous help with the X32. How can I get the width/panning on a mix for my stream?? I'm using subgroups (1 for vocals, 1 for drums, 1 for guitars & keys, and 1 for Bass). I'm routing the subgroups into a Matrix (left and right) to create my stream Mix. I'd like to do some panning and create a width. I also feel like my mix is not as clean and kind of lacks a punch. Any chance you can help? If it's ok or possible at all, I can send you a link to our KZbin channel so that you can hear what I'm talking about.

Using a matrix is a great way to start a live stream mix of your house sound is solid, but for most of us (especially those with a mono PA) a MixBUS is better for stream. When you send all your drums to a mono bus, you can no longer pan them... same with band. If you use a stereo MixBUS setup for your stream, you can send your channels directly into the stream and have separate panning for house and stream. Here is my setup which might offer a new direction. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn7RkpyreJpoiLs

@@AllamHouse Thanks for a quick reply. I've watched that setup video like 4 or 5 times. It has ton of useful information and I've used it as a starting point to rebuild my mix. I went with matrices since I multi-task during our live stream (play bass, sound engineer, and direct my camera crew) and I was looking for a 1 fader control for each group (vocal, drums etc). I'm watching the video again, and will try the MixBUS option to use the panning....Not sure you covered how to pan on that video. Thanks a lot for helping a bunch of us. May God richly bless you for this.

I actually have quick links in the description and it looks like around the 29 minute mark is where I talk about panning for the stream.

@@AllamHouse, Thanks a bunch. I went thru the video again and you're right on spot. I understand panning much better and can't wait to get to church and work on it. Here's another one for you. I watched the vids about "Sound tech rehearsal at home". I have x32 live and I use "TracksLive" as a DAW to record live sessions. Is there a way to feed it into X32 live and practice without the board? And how do I connect PreSonus to my board and do the channel mapping? You probably have a video on that somewhere.
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 3 жыл бұрын
To start, X32-Edit is just a remote control software that you could build presets away from the console and then load them into the console the next time you are around. It will not work without a console. What you want to do is record the tracks in TracksLive, then put the tracks into a DAW (I use Presonus StudioOne) for practicing. The Prime version of StudioOne is free and I have a video (below) that walks you through practicing at home. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJXTeYCfnpV-bZo

I am looking for a DJ situation where it is Two channel Stereo input and I need Mono output. Yes, I know the DJ should send Mono out but we have rotating DJ's and they do what they want. We have four rooms reach with 1 pre-sonus 1200 in it.
@AllamHouse
@AllamHouse 6 ай бұрын
Assuming you have the X32 you. Can just send your inputs (stereo) to a BUS and each BUS can feed a different room. If you don’t need a different mix for each room then you can send the stereo inputs to your Main L/R BUS and then route that (post fader) to a Mono Matrix which can be sent to your various speakers. Let me know if you have other questions or need clarification.

Thanks for the feedback. You have to be less than 20ms or your brain will hear it as two different sources. I used 14ms for my acoustic guitar both live and in this example.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpjGY62NapWra6c This is the church where I am doing the mixing live, (you can jump to min 28 for the praise song). I just tried to use this technique on main lead last week with 2 additional channel with 24ms delay and panned hard left and right with different EQ and compression (left dark right bright), and it sounds amazing and wide but no obvious delay sound, and today I see your post and get the confirmation, so thanks for the post and hardwork👏👍. (btw my mix sound a bit dull due to the EQ I applied at around 400 to fix the room problem, if you want you can boost it 3-5dB if you want 😂)
