It’s crazy how they are so perfect with these harmonies, Avi’s range is just absurd and with all of that plus the awesome reverb, you get something really cool like this

I am listening to this and the other "Cry" one on repeat. I've never heard anything like it. Didn't know what a "tag" was as of 5 minutes ago. I have now discovered that this is the only thing Allan Katz is known for, and he is currently in assisted living for dementia

Does anyone know which one is singing the melody?
@crunchypb15 ай бұрын
I am not sure. I only know Avi (the person on the left) is singing bass. I’m gonna guess they are position from low to high, so I’m assuming the melody is being sung by the person all the way on the right.

is this a standalone tag? or does it come from a full arrangement?
@crunchypb1 Жыл бұрын
I can’t really find anything for a tune it would be attached to. I am pretty sure he wrote it as a stand-alone tag just for the fun of it maybe

There is a full chart. I can’t remember who arranged it, but Riptide sang it often while they were an active quartet.

I’m a pretty knowledgeable musician but my theory is lacking… why “double flats” in the chord notation? I know it’s in a flat key but still
@crunchypb1Ай бұрын
I used double flats in this trancription because It’s is a lot easier to sight read than the latter; also the harmonic functions of some of these chords, where they come from, or go to, begs for the use of them. For instance, the first frame shows the first two measures of the tag. In the second measure you can see they go to what could be logically called an Amaj7 or a Bbbmaj7. The quick answer I used to determine which to use is the melody note remains the same as the previous melody note, Ab. Ab is the major 7th of Bbbmaj7 so I used that. If the melody note remained the same and I used a G# (the major 7th of Amaj7) to notate the melody note instead, someone reading it off the cuff would assume the notes pitch goes down, and we definitely don’t want that. Conversely in the second to last measure, the melody note is sustained across multiple bar lines, and the note is a Db. Db is the major 7th of Ebbmaj7, and if I wrote a D major triad below a Db, reading that would be a nightmare. D major or is a sharp key with no flats present naturally, so Db would be very out of place, vs Ebb which naturally includes Db! Gotta love the nitty gritty lmao We’re dealing with a ton of non diatonic chords and motion. The bass notes are descending chromatically for much of the tag, which will account for the use of double flats in a flat key. If this were Dmajor, I could simply use flats to notate downward chromatic motion and no one would bat an eye; since they are singing in Db I decided to follow some traditional rules because I believe they do make it easier in the long run.

@@crunchypb1thanks for that answer! Clears things up a lot! So to play devils advocate… would it make it even easier to read if you notate it in F# instead of Gb??
@crunchypb1Ай бұрын
@@joelbuckler2916 We’re in Db major right now. I can bust it out in C# major and email it to you if you would like. I try to avoid weird accidentals whenever I can, but in this case, there’s no real “solution”. If I write it out in C#, then we have to worry about reading E#, A#, which is totally fine still. I think it just made more sense to me in Db. Lmk if you want that file!
