I am absolutely in the exact same place. I’ve noticed that I get anxiety about stuff. Just more stuff. Everywhere I look there’s just stuff sitting there and I want it gone. I’ve been simplifying my whole life. I went through my Instagram and unfollowed a bunch of places that I just end up shopping at or that aren’t adding value to my life, I unsubscribed to a bunch of newsletters that seem to tempt me to go shopping, etc. And also like you, I am evaluating relationships, and sort of how I operate in the world. I’m really focused on taking care of my brain. In the age of short form content we are losing the ability to focus and just be without distractions. I hate that feeling. My goal is to slow down, let my brain decompress, go outside, read, put energy into eating more and well, sleep, and nurturing the relationships closest to me. I loved this! I would honestly be a little heartbroken if I saw you doing more short form content, and steering away from your KZbin videos. So many of my old favorites aren’t posting anymore, and I actually miss them as human beings. I would really miss you and these chatty videos!

I don’t use TikTok either. Actually the only time I had to was to fill out your giveaway form 🤣🤣. It’s a wake-up call when your phone tells you how much time on average you’ve spent 😩. I much prefer the long form and I align content I watch with my lifestyle values etc. Wishing Dan the happiest of Birthdays and enjoy your trip. Thank you for taking on this topic. I’m sure it wasn’t the easiest 🥰🥰🙏

I have to say the content I’m looking for is for the more … life experienced, working ,professional…makeup (did that even make sense 😂) I work in IT where style and appearance isn’t a priority but I still feel that it’s important to care for and present yourself in a clean and powerful way as a woman. Your videos of style and makeup really hit home for me and what fits in my phase of life. Wishing you all the hope and joy in your new phase! ❤

Not having social media until I was in my 20’s was the best thing ever. One thing we need to remember no matter our age is to stay true to our interests and our likes. When you know what you love, I think you are less able to be swept away by all the opinions and influences online.

I'm just going to share my own personal experience since the start of the year. Toward the end of 2022, I was spending ALOT of time on social media and I was constantly angry, unhappy and just anxious. I couldn't figure out why - I had no reason to be. I decided to do a little experiment starting Jan 1 as part of my New Year's resolutions, and that was to severely limit my time on all social media. By limit, I mean not checking it more than one or two times per week, and when I did check it, to not spend more than 10 minutes. I am telling you, it has made all the difference. It's almost the end of January, and I feel worlds better. The anxiety is gone, I feel happy, and I've been super productive and done so many things this month that I had put off for a long time. I also feel very free - like I'm not constantly racing the clock to do what I need to do. Highly HIGHLY recommend just getting off socials as much as possible. You can thank me later!

When you get an Allana notification you just have to drop everything the way I just did ❤. I remember turning 30 and can’t for the life of me and to this day explain it but I was severely depressed. Yes to long form contents. Don't have TikTok and have no plans on getting it. Not on IG as much as I use to and really don't miss it (my only goal for this year less SM more reading, 3 books already this month). Don't even like the #shorts here on YT, but overall YT is where its at for me and will stay that way.

Long live the long form content 🙌 honestly you could post 1+hour videos and I would still watch them all. I feel what you say about the abundance of content and influence, I'm not on TikTok and I already feel overwhelmed with Instagram lol 🙃 digital decluttering is important too, to get some brain space in our busy lives! I have a curated list of people I follow that only bring me joy and whose content work for me. You are by far n°1, I identify a lot to you because I'm also a millennial (93 baby!) with a bearded sweet man and a kitty cat 😂🐱 + very similar tastes as yours! My fyp has become asmr baking videos, cute animals, gym girl workouts, and my favorite creators because I got so so tired of seeing a saturation of “you need this” “this changed my life” “go buy this random gazillion dollar thing that makes you a worthy human” (which is exactly how it feels). I got tired of hating everything I own because random people said it wasn’t good enough. De-influencing for the win! Love you always girl!💕

After that I decided to deactivate my IG beginning of December to focus on the beauty that is the physical world. Thank you for explaining how I felt in a much better way than I did when I found out my first girlfriend was pregnant. Overwhelm of emotions, feeling like "breaking up" with your old-self and getting used to new realities, etc. Relatable! Everything you mentioned in this video, on the deinfluencing, over consumerism, over stimulation of content etc was so spot on. It was wonderful to hear your thoughts as well on your girlfriends pregnancy and being conscious of how things will change in her life and how it’s best to support her as a friend. I’m 28 (29 this year) and 17 weeks pregnant with my first baby. It has been an overwhelming, wonderful but also daunting time since we found out. SO feeling this video and your approach to everything rn. We are inundated by consumption in every facet of life, so much so I fear we've traded quality for quantity in everything our minds and bodies take in, as well as traded our TIME (our lives!) and Mental Health for quantity. We've become content/product hoarders and left little space in our minds and lives for down time, self care, inspiration, mental processing, real life community etc.

I LOVED your chat about the 30s life changes - especially the sort of grief that goes along with the first friend in the close friend group having their first child. I also fully sobbed when my best friend told me she was pregnant (first one in my close friends) and I felt those same complicated feelings you were referring to: happy, excited, planning/reflecting on changes, but also a bit of sadness/nostalgia about the past versions of ourselves. I even had that same set of feelings when one of my other favorite KZbinrs (you're obviously one of my faves!) announced she was pregnant, and it was really close to the time my friend announced, so it was a double-whammy for me lol... Anyway, I wanted to say THANK YOU for speaking so candidly about this topic -- and also about the consumerism/short-form topic! (I never got a TT account and so glad I didn't). I really appreciate your honesty and emotional intelligence

I can completely relate to you and your feelings on turning 30 and entering a new decade of life. I turned 30 in September 2022 and it’s the first time in my life where I have actually felt like I was getting older. It’s messed with my head a little bit… I have been back and forth between adopting a “30, flirty, and thriving” attitude and also freaking out about getting older and being obsessed with what I have actually accomplished or not accomplished in my life. I have been married and a mom for 10 years. My youngest is going to start school this fall, so for the first time in my adult life, this year I am trying to get a job and start my career. It’s daunting, it’s scary and I am constantly battling my own self doubt and insecurities about not ever having worked before and what I have to offer the world of employment; but I am trying to also remain hopeful and optimistic about my future and the possibilities available to me. I really admire you and I am so excited to see what you will do in the future and where your career will take you! So, here’s to a new season of life and being 30 🥂

This is my favorite form of KZbin video from you and your channel is the only thing that I consume. It feels so real. And relatable as a normal woman who has a 9-5 and life commitments. This is lovely. We are evolving with you lan❤😊

Omg the bun tutorial! I always have the “sticky outty nibble” and tried to fix it with Bobby pins but it never worked. I’ll try this trick!!!! Love your content as always. It’s very relatable and just calming 🥰

I 1000% resonate with you! There's such a negative connotation with the word "selfish", I like to call it being "selective" (with my time, my lifestyle, the people I surround myself with etc;) and we shouldn't feel guilty for it ☺️😎. If we don't prioritise ourselves, who will!? 💕

So happy to have tuned in ❤ i am following you since 2016 and honestl forgot about the beautiful youtube world just because I did not wanted to be influenced anymore on makeup but listening to you in this video felt like therapy to me - much needed after a long office day ❤ keep on going and as a 92 girl i can tell you that not much has changed since my bday - just stay as cool as you are now 😊

It is overwhelming, I love YT because you get to know the creator and vice versa, you learn from the information being shared on videos. It is so sad when an influencer is dishonest, it makes it hard for those of us that keep it real and honest. Thank you for staying true💜💜

I was watching the video and just saying "preach girl" throughout lol. I read through a lot of the comments and can only echo what others have already said. Here for your long form content!

I relate to those 3 points sooooo much. I am turning 34 this year, done having babies so a little bit further into my journey but holy cow I am feeling the need to simplify and focus my energy on the things that truly matter. I did take tik tok off of my phone because it was creating so much anxiety and found myself in those hours deep rabbit holes... I just couldn't take it anymore. I've been doing better about refocusing my energy but still have a long way to go.

Praise be this video! I am also a simple gal and have had to take a major step back from social media due to the absolutely overwhelming, oversaturation and bombardment of consumerism and product pushing. It's too much. I was driving to work one day, and mid commercial shut off the radio and drove in silence because I was so overstimulated. I love that you spoke about this topic and think so many people can relate. You've always been a real and relevant sweetie pie and that's why we love you Allana

I really appreciate this video and your thoughts on the current moment of intense consumerism. Personally, I’ve been sad about a lot of KZbinrs shifting to shorts and tiktok because that content is just not for me. There is still a huge audience for thoughtful long form content who love hearing honest opinions instead of a constant stream of newness.

I 100% agree with you! I‘m in the same place where I‘m just overwhelmed of all the content that‘s out there like „5 ways to improve your fitness“, „how to be more relaxed“, „my 5-9 before my 9-5“ blablabla… So here‘s the thing: I am working from 7-4 in an office job and sometimes I‘m feeling like I don‘t have my life together because of all the people on social media (especially TikTok & reels) who tell you how to improve your life, what you need etc. Everything is so fast, everyone is telling you what to do and how life should be like. But this is not real life and I think many people get like „depressed“ by all these super douper lifes on social media. So thank you for talking about that, for sharing your thoughts and for doing longtime content on KZbin. It‘s crazy how young and successful all the „new influencers“ are nowadays. I‘m with you: we need to slow down, don‘t rush to TikTok and reels but rather relax and watch a like 20 min video on youtube. It‘s all too much …

I only follow a few people on KZbin (within the beauty/lifestyle space) I this past couple of years I have struggled with the content. Your message today was so refreshing. I don’t begrudge anyone’s decision to consume anything-products, beliefs, food, etc. But I struggle when the information shared is done in a conflicting manner. Many talk about sustainability but will shop online with such gluttony that it is almost disturbing. The rationalization is that it’s “their” job. But everyone is challenged to adapt and change to be more in line with our convictions. I don’t have the answers. And I am not perfect. But consuming less and learning what works for you-regardless of other’s opinion-is always the path of truth. I support you, this new direction, and your KZbin platform. And I say thank you.
It's Been a Weird Week lol
