Totally agree with your outlook on cosmetic procedures. What leads to unrealistic beauty standards are people not admitting to the procedures they’ve had done, because it leads us to believe they naturally are that flawless. If someone wants to physically change something and that’ll make them feel better about themselves then I’m all for it because people are allowed to make their own choices for their bodies and others shouldn’t feel permission to shame them for those choices. However, if you are a public person on social media I do think it’s the most ethical choice to be honest about that like you have so people don’t compare themselves to unrealistic standards. Thank you for always being honest despite knowing that you’ll receive criticism from people for your choices. You’re being very brave and responsible! I’ve been watching your channel now for six years and you’re still my favourite because of your honesty and authenticity. Even as your following has grown substantially you are still the same person and so grounded. ❤️

I definitely agree with your stance on filters and editing vs. filler, botox, and other treatments being separate entities. It does make a huge difference when people are open about the work they’ve had done, not to mention they’ll look the same on camera and off camera with those treatments vs. looking different on camera than off camera with editing tools/filters. I also wanna add that I really love that this is something you’ve been bringing awareness to lately. I have so many friends that struggle with their body image because of other people on social media and I’m always telling them that it’s fake and those people don’t even actually look like that. I think having a beauty influencer with a huge following talking about it is so important, and you’ve inspired me to just flaunt my breakouts with my own (much, much smaller) platform which has had a very positive response so far. I can’t express enough how endlessly grateful I am for the honesty and realness that you bring to this community.

Apparently people are allergic to the fdn1 protein in their saliva... And you know they groom themselves so much so it gets all over their hair, plus it’s in their litter box, and if she drools a lot there ya go. So it helps if you clean their litter box every day (preferably Dejan if he’s not allergic), brush them often, lint roll like crazy, and also don’t let them sleep with you at night (close the door). Have you looked into the allergy shots/allergy therapy? Jackson Galaxy just filmed a video about cat allergies! I was a little bit allergic to one of my cats but not the other. I guess the one cat produced much more of that protein than the other cat did, plus she shed like CRAZY. And drooled! It was rough. Good luck!

This was really fun to listen to! I always appreciate how honest you are. I could never work in social media with the pressures of appearance. I’m continually completely shocked at how truly mean people can be in comments. I’d like to think I don’t know anyone who has such a dark soul but this is the problem with screens, people are anonymous to a point and just lose all sense of kindness. They criticize others for altering their appearance, but it’s the comments of those same people that fuel insecurity. So it would seem obvious that if people stopped ripping each other apart and celebrated natural beauty then this vicious cycle would stop. Love you Lan!

I love your videos, your creativity, and your honesty so first a thank you for that! About the last question - I do wonder - even with the disclosure of what you get re: fillers/botox - it brought to mind a couple things I'd love to get your thoughts on: -I just imagine young people still feeling inadequate because they can't get these often expensive/inaccessible things done as well. Maybe throwing on a filter makes them feel good when they can't afford/can't figure out their skin or can't get the same procedures they see others getting. I don't think it's healthy either as you've said but I can imagine the thought process. -I'm not sure if I'd want a young person even thinking something like "well I don't look like that because she got xyz procedure done" - it almost pits her against you if that makes sense? And then they might aspire to one day get xyz...which is perhaps fine, but not sure a healthy way to think about yourself until you can get the thing you believe you need. I admire that you encourage people to share their thoughts so just want to reiterate that I respect you very much and don't mean to cast judgement!

I appreciate your mindset on the last question about “fake people” in social media. I know for me, I actively choose to not care about what other people have done to alter their appearance, because it has nothing to do with the things I like about myself. Even though I have multiple things I’m self conscious about, the healthier the life I lead, the more I’m able to look at myself and recognize the things I love about myself, making it easier to separate my thoughts about myself from what I see with other people IRL & on social media.

I grew up bilingual (Greek and English) but after going ten years without living in Greece I lost a lot of the language! As a young adult, I had to actively reteach myself to get my almost fluency back! It really does help visiting the country and staying for at least 3-4 weeks, listening to radio stations and music in that language, watching movies and TV shows in that language, buy magazines and this sounds silly but I bought Greek children’s books and novels of stories I’ve read in English just to practice! Now my brain can think in both languages and I even dream in Greek, especially when I’m in Greece! Good luck with your goal, I think language learning is one of the most difficult studies but also one of the most rewarding!

Adding fillers or using filters to me is the same thing...you do it to make yourself feel better about your looks. I have no judgement about that...You do You Boo But I also appreciate how honest you are about what you get done. That shows how confident you actually are compared to those who do get “adjustments” and don’t share that fact.

I love your comment on people not being honest about what they get done. I am a skincare junkie, and I personally dont take suggestions from people on KZbin that have tons of fillers/botox/lifts.....idk..just doesn't seem natural. If they do makeup and had tons of work it doesn't bother me as much...unless they lie about it and face tune, and all that crappy stuff. Hope this makes sense. Love the Vid as usual :) XX

Love that you're so honest! I kind of agree with you on that last question that if someone feels insecure about something they have every right to change it and there's nothing wrong with it. But, for example, with big lips, I feel like scrolling through instagram and seeing all these influencers with big juicy lips, knowing if they got work done or not is not really that important. The thing is that seeing "big lips everywhere" makes you question your own and start feeling insecure about them and think that maybe you should get them done too. Just like we get influenced about products, we also get influenced on how we should look.

I agree with your last statements about cosmetic procedures. I personally have had a septorhinoplasty. My reason was medical but I also told him to shave down my bump a little. As long as someone doesn’t lie about it then I don’t see an issue with what someone choses to do for themselves.

Love q&a’s. As for the filters vs fillers/Botox - it is not the same thing!!!!!! I get Botox (I’m 40 and it is preservation!), but I don’t feel bad about it and I love getting it done! Mind you, I am due and can’t get it touched up which is a truly unfortunate side affect of the COVID right now - ugh. However!!! Using filters, or photoshop/Facetune. That is not your face anymore! Botox doesn’t chisel my jawline and cheekbones anymore than they are already. Filters do! Photoshop does! Getting rid of freckles, blemishes and pimples, while at the same time whitening my teeth in my smile and enhancing my lips because they look thinner if I smile showing my teeth - that is all fake, all unrealistic and setting a false narrative! I’m completely in agreement with what you said about it! Social media is the worst place for a young girls self esteem because it’s become so digitized fakeness! Love ya Lan!

For learning languages, I find it super useful to immerse yourself in the language as best as you can. Not like moving to the country because quarantine duh. For example with dutch, which I'm learning right now, I listen to dutch music, watch dutch tv shows with english subtitles, eat dutch foods, duolingo, translating simple childrens books to dutch, and re-watching shows I know well like schitt's creek with dutch subtitles. I also find it helpful to practice having conversations in said language via online forums or talking to yourself.

I agree with you regarding the filter etc. situation. While people are certainly entitled to their privacy around procedures etc. I do think honesty if extremely important so that people aren’t having unrealistic expectations about others and then bringing these on themselves. An example of this was Mykie/@glamandgore when she was sharing her body journey in preparation for a specific event and she said that she’d had a breast augmentation, not because she wanted questions about it, but because she didn’t want others to see her and think that by working out and lifting weights that they’d be able to boost their bust or keep a perky chest, and because she was/is very aware that others in the fitness field have had similar work but aren’t open about it and contribute to unrealistic body expectations that can’t be naturally achieved. Honesty can allow people to have realistic expectations of others and themselves.

I agree with your in doing whatever you want to boost your confidence, and if you share it you help others be realistic and don’t expect to be naturally perfect. A couple of days ago I watched on Lorry Hill’s channel the transformation over the decades of Angelina Jolie and omgosh!!! My whole life thinking this person is naturally perfect, don’t get me wrong, she is naturally beautiful and probably she was naturally perfect all along... but she’s definitely improved herself a lot!! and while she has the right to keep it a secret, that’s also the kind of thing that make some women doubt their beauty. I guess all celebrities have plenty of surgeries, just like the oh so natural JLo lol. But again, I totally agree with doing what you can to boost your confidence, as long as the person understands real confidence comes from inside, from your brain.

i agree with you so much on the the topic of filters and getting work done on your face. It's especially harmful to younger people who just haven't had the experience knowing what it looks like to have stuff done to their face. I remember being very very insecure when i was younger because celebrities and later youtubers and bloggers are never shown having acne, or skin texture or they just have perfect hair and makeup everytime. It's not a bad thing but knowing a lot of it is skin prep + estheticians and getting facials/botox etc plus a ton of editing really helps ya know. Now i know better but yeah a lot of people still struggle with this. Aso i think you egtting backlash for being honest is maybe one of the reasons people don't want to talk about it? People should really be more accepting...i mean your face your money do what you want just let a girl know ya know. So when i have the money i can do what i want too xD

A good way to practice languages that doesn’t feel like a chore is to watch your favorite movies in that language. You’ll start to recognize the words and phrases. Obviously having someone you can talk to in that language helps SO much. My husband is Colombian and I can understand Spanish pretty well especially when I’ve been hanging out with his family for a while, but I can’t speak it to save my life because I don’t actively practice figuring out the phrases and pronunciation for myself to speak. SO sad. even supermodels like Bella Hadid, they don’t talk about what they fixed. and that is soo dangerous to especially young girls who think they’re naturally born like that. if they were just straight up idk what’s the harm in that. 🥺

The only way in my experience to grasp a language is to constantly be surrounded by it. You need to use it regularly in order to repeat, practice, make mistakes, learn. I find that traditional studying doesn't help me remember or understand. Listen to music in that music, participate in small, simple conversations. Even if it's the same thing over and over again, you will start to remember, and then you can move on to other words.

Living in a country that speaks the language definitely helps! But to keep up with Spanish input, I watch a lot of Spanish-speaking KZbinrs. It helps me practice every-day sorts of words that I might have forgot from school or words that I’m not using at my bilingual job.

Learning language is difficult, but the more you can practice with native speakers, the better it is. I studied French and Arabic (both Egyptian and modern standard which nobody actually speaks) and after living in Egypt my Egyptian Arabic is the best of the three. It got to a point where I was learning Arabic in Arabic and that was where my language acquisition took off. So, maybe Serbian will be a lot easier for you in the long run?

hey Allana, Thanks for this,... yes, this spring here in Vancouver is wonderful! makes us forgive our city for November lol. I was born and raised here but did seven years of university back East (four of them being taught in French,,,, ya, imagine taking economics and everything in French. But it worked ... I suggest a six week course of full immersion in Quebec City. University Laval has one of the best language schools in the world. Go in the summer, though. I went in winter and, as fun and interesting as the city is, it gets bloody cold. Bless our Wet Coast, Cheers .... the Rhodos as just stunning this year, xo, Trish

I lived in Toronto for one Summer in 2014 (randomly decided to go to Canada all alone, but fell in love 2 weeks before I left, I still went but came back 4 months later to my love. Just a lil life story there!), I worked at Joe Fresh on Queen and Portland and had the best time! Can't wait to go back to Toronto again one day.

yup i am also so over all the influencers using filters 24/7!!! like it slims their face and makes their eyes bigger and removes all skin discolouration etc its just so unnecessary

Not to give unsolicited suggestions(although that’s exactly what this is), I see how much you love Meryl but how bad the allergies are and when and if you’re able to, I’d suggest going to an allergy specialist-they’re able to help desensitize you to allergens.

Yas girl to the degrees of separation when it comes to having work done. Me and my coworker talks about nip and tuck all the time .... had one botox done last year and scheduled with my dermatologist for next month. I also plan to get laser treatment to fix my acne scars. Nothing wrong with fixing things you may be slightly conscious about.

You can get allergy shots that will alleviate your allergy symptoms. The treatments start out a few in a couple months and then they are spaced out over a year. Totally works!

Yes! That last answer 100%. I know everyone had the right to say what they want to say but now a days it’s different when your influencing other people! And if that’s the business your in one of the sacrifices you’ll have to make is being honest. No one likes someone trying to advertise products to them when you know they aren’t being real. Stay true to your self Allana like always! Ps. I mean Meryl keeps us all entertained so thanks for your suffering

That last question was fantastic. I agree. I also feel like you need to be 100% sure of where the insecurity is coming from before you start altering your appearance. So if you look in the mirror and think "I love the person I am, and Im happy in this skin of mine, but Id love to have bigger lips or get rid of these lines on my face or get extensions", whatever! Cool! But if you are insecure about everything you see, or you dont know who you are yet as a human being, work on things at a way deeper level than vanity. Otherwise you could end up defining your self worth on your looks/personal enhancements. ALSO WHAT THE HECK WILL YOU DO IF YOU LAND IN QUARANTINE AWAY FROM ALL YOUR "SPECIALISTS" AND YOU WAKE UP ONE DAY TO YOUR OLD FACE AND DONT RECOGNIZE YOURSELF 🤣

On the topic of heavy filtering, it’s also annoying as a consumer! It’s so frustrating when people are talking about a skincare product or new makeup and have an intense beauty filter on. Let me see your skin and the product!! But otherwise love this vid, your chatty ones are always so fun

I totally agree with you! two different things. I don't like when people use filters on insta but personally i think some Botox is great lol I'm 26 and love a little botox in my forehead. you are a wonderful roll model, your kind, don't listen to judgey people. some botox and your tasteful lip filler that looks great does not take away from your wonderful and much needed presence on the interweb lol love ya girl
