I am an Allen Edmonds customer, with over 40 pairs of AE shoes. That is a handsome shoe! I do not own a pair of cordovans in my arsenal. I am so happy for you!

Natural Shell is just beautiful ! And the Strand in shell are awesome . Personally I see an American made shoe as something I will pay more for . I toured Horween in May what an interesting facility . It takes 6 months to make one piece of shell , they will not cut corners . Great Review !

Congratulations on a great purchase of a great shoe.! Proximity to Port Washington has benefits.! Shell Cordovan is an acquired taste and these shoes are a great ambassador for the leather, the style and the brand. Carry on.

7:58 it’s best to resole your shoes with a Professional Master Shoe Cobbler. Allen Edmonds sews welt with an industrial sewing machine, creating new holes in the leather. A shoe cobbler will reuse the same holes, maintaining the integrity for longevity.

It looks like you can select natural shell cordovan in the custom shop. I wonder if this is how they would come out

Those look nicer than any of the Aldens I've had tbh

I know some folks claim the AEs quality has gone down. But I think if you shop your sales right, you can get some great shoes/boots from Allen Edmonds. I have been happy with my purchases. Love the brogue pattern.

Allen Edmonds was also my introduction into Goodyear Welted Shoes so they have a special place in my collection, I also own Alden, Carmina, Carlos Santos, Crockett & Jones, Cobbler Union, TLB Mallorca, Vintage Florsheim & Nettleton just to name a few

Look up “Tokyo Turn up”, it’s a way of cuffing your selvedge that’s still a double cuff, but you can still show off the gold chain stitch. It’s making one giant cuff, then cuffing that cuff. Oh and do you know about that little notch on the front end of the heel block? Where it looks like it’s broken on the edge, it serves a purpose. It’s to prevent suit pants from getting snagged, it’s called the gentleman’s.. uhh.. gentleman’s notch. Same name on eye gee

Your wife is correct-not much of a difference between the calf and shell version, other than the shine and glow, and relatively low maintenance of shell shoes. After a year, the lighter shells will just darken, depending on usage, towards more bourbon or more mid brown shades of shell cordovan. You got a great example of shell strands, but ultimately all lighter shades of shell will darken and develop a unique patina based on your usage.

I own no shell cordovan shoes mostly because they can look like poly urethane to an untamed eye. I love these a lot regardless

Yeah some won’t have anything of quality and some have an abundance. I travel for work and just love going in GWs in different areas. I would say 70% there’s nothing but worth it for me to check out.

"ts a stunning leather. Like no other. Collector level. However For me - the high cost, development of rolls in the vamp, and the fact that I am hard on my shoes (Urban northern weather) make it not right for me. Now Horween Chromexcel is a different story and I own a boot with this.

I heard that Allen Edmonds quality has gone down in the past year…🤷♂️
@mickosullivan29626 ай бұрын
Perhaps that might be someone’s opinion , me personally I have not seen any digression from their reputation as a premium American made shoe . I had the luxury of touring both the Horween and Allen Edmonds factories in May . Dedicated long time employees making shoes in Port Washington Wisconsin . I just purchased two pair of boots so I am a believer .

1000 usd for this?😮 Im out , sorry. Way beyond what i can spend. But more importantly, Grant Stone shell boots, with literally twice the yardage of shell and way better construction costs 750. Far better value for me.
