Allen Edmonds Shoe Conversion | Changing These Shoes From Golf Spikes to Street Wear

A customer mailed these Allen Edmonds golf spikes in to us to be converted into nice, wingtip oxford shoes for any time wear. After removing the spikes and old soles, we replaced them with Baker oak bark tanned soles, added some orange stitching and finished them off with Vibram heel pads. Looks like this pair of Allen Edmonds will be seeing a lot more wear!

The beauty of the old AE golf shoe is this type of conversion. I can't wear my AE golf shoes on my favorite course so the conversion was a great option.

This was a great video. I originally started watching shoe repair videos so I could learn how to keep my leather golf shoes in good shape. It is hard to find traditional leather golf shoes like the ones in the video. Most now are made of some type of synthetic or plastic upper with a rubber sole. My guess is these golf shoes originally had metal spikes.

I've got to say that it is so great to watch the amazing work you guys do. I am about to send a couple of pairs out to you guys. It really can't be overstated how much trust it inspires to be able to watch you guys work and see the detail-orientedness that sets you apart. It was important to me that I didn't send my shoes to some schmuck who would take my money and do a mediocre job. It is obvious that you guys hold yourselves to a high standard and feel that customers deserve the best work you can do. I haven't even had my shoes worked on yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be a repeat customer.

That was great! Trenton, you're more communicative than Heath, who usually works in silence without commenting on what he's doing even when it's something noiseless like smoothing that cork paste with the hot iron. Those times are opportunities to say what the experience is like: How does cork smell when heated? How long does it take to rub the soles with the dowel to get that beautiful burnish? What are the different colours of thread you use when stitching the outsoles, and which ones are customers' favourites? I liked that orange a lot. I've never seen it before. Are there many (or even any) brands that do that right in the factory, or is it something they don't risk? What are the options in toe caps - shape, colour (I'm Canadian and can't help spelling it that way), type of metal? You appear to favour brass. Why? But don't answer these questions in a reply! Answer them in your videos to come.

great job...I have nice golf shoes but none could ever be converted to street shoes...all my golf shoes have the athletic last and no heels....and no spikes anymore either...a lot of the shoes now are spikeless …..beautiful looking shoes in the end product

Yep, most of the current golf spikes are much more of an athletic shoe or sneaker. Definitely different from the old school spikes.

Aquila I believe it has to do with staying put while swinging the club and not worrying about slipping due to the momentum of the swing. The plastic spikes are relatively recent; older shoes have the same metal spikes seen on shoes used in baseball or football.
