I studied with Allen in '93, at MI. He was always a great musician and teacher. I was starting to get interested in improvisation and jazz but I was still very immature. I learned a lot watching Allen play and what he said to listen. The year I spent there was definitive for my training as a musician.

I didnt have a good experience with this dude in 96 at mi but all the things he talkin about on here makes sense ,la is not a old people town i lived there for 20 years and moved and im living exactly at a place he describes

I studied with Allen at MIin 1989 what a wonderful player teacher and human, I also taught Austin John who you interviewed, he mentioned me but he said I went to berklee but it was MI lol , but love your show and all the interviews! Thank you

What an informative interview, glad I took time to listen to it all. I had a few lessons with Allen at MI in 2006/2007 and a couple of big take aways were making each note sound good and hybrid picking.

OK, I can't believe it but I listened to this whole thing. Great to hear him give props to Jack Fitzpatrick and Rob Alexander when they were Snapfinger back in the day in Auburn. I used to go out to see them and think: So, this is how good you have to be to play in a bar band? Little did I know they were actually world class players at a young age! Neat interview with Allen. He has always been very kind to me and I couldn't carry his case. You better hurry though, LA (lower Alabama or, at least, East AL) is starting to look more like LA every day. Crowded!
