I remember in their rookie season, Iverson Vs Marbury was such a hot topic. I remember it very well, because it was one of the first NBA seasons where I truly followed NBA. There was this Iverson homepage some dude made and there was a special Iverson Vs Marbury section.

@80sports20 2 жыл бұрын
Me too! A friend and I were discussing what was different about 90's basketball. We came up with 2 main things; 1) the player's technique was much more crisp and fundamental. Players had much better dribbling, shooting form, passing, and overall basketball IQ. It made the game much better to watch. 2) There were 5 distinct positions (PG, SG, F, PF, C) all playing in harmony with different roles. It made the game much more artistic. Dunks had to be earned, and they looked much nicer. Nowadays, it's more like streetball. Everyone is a hybrid player, there's a lot less strategic game play. There's lots of dunks, but they aren't special because they happen so frequently. The perfect combination of skill and athleticism that you had in the 90's is no longer there. There's lots of athleticism now, but the game isn't as esthetically pleasing.

I used to love watching A.I and Marbury go at it. Great rivalry. Iverson was better (obviously) but Stephon always gave him a run for his money. Only flaw I see in Marbury was his left hand never fully developed. Aside from that, great playmaker, nice handles, quick on his feet. Iverson, also a good playmaker (when he wanted to be), handles were sick, impossible to guard one on one, lightning fast, great scorer. During the mid-late 90s the nba was the ish.

True. He did put on a bit of muscle later on in his career. I always admired the way he took care of himself off the court. Baron Davis was also pretty stocky and well built for a PG. As is Nat Robinson. Too bad Steph ain't in the league anymore but he's made quite a name for himself in China.

Sean Norfleet for the way his game was.. He manage to stay injury free. Some fool below said Derrick Rose was stronger than him I'm like O_o DAFUQ? Now look.. He is a God in China. He said he wanted to be global but the NBA was holding players back. I'm proud of him. Media turned on him after adoring him. His own city who wanted him to come back home shunned him. They put title aspirations on him with those terrible Knick teams.. Not fair

It's too bad that the Timberwolves management never did what it had to do to keep Marbury & Garnett together, unfortunately that was not to be and they ended up giving the big contract to K.G. which forever split up whatever chemistry they had before was now gone, and so now Marbury would be the odd man out. In the following seasons Stephon would be traded to Phoenix, New Jersey, and Finally the Knicks his home town, however even in the NBA sometimes things just don't turn out the way they should have. Marbury would find a resurgence in his basketball career over in China and start and NBA trend where past or present NBA players that weren't happy about playing over here in the states could go over to China and flourish where they would not only see more playing time they might also get a fat contract to play over their for anxious fans who have never seen an NBA star up close now gets their chance to do so!

marbury was always really athletic but just couldnt finish much of the time and at the end of the day the most important thing is to put the ball in the basket consistently. they both had chemistry issues but at least ai had the offensive consistency and ability to takeover a game.
