@@dekotaburns1776 the cheapest way is to wrap the bundles it’s usually under 10 cents pr bundle using the plastic wrap . You can build your own bundler if you’re handy . Should be lots of videos out there on building one . The bags we use are about 40 cents but we buy it in big rolls and make our own . That part of the state is a nice area . As kids we used to stop at Trenton bridge every summer and have a lobster .

We used that yellow mesh netting for years which we purchased from an outfit in Canada. They no longer produce it so we are delighted to find another source for this netting. I ordered a few rolls from Quadel Industries and look forward to having it in our lineup again. Thanks for the link ! Baling Christmas trees we used to use that type of netting in 200ft and larger lengths. Slide it all on the tube, fill the bundler bucket, pull it over and hog ring the end dump and hog ring the other end. Saves loads of time on loading individual pieces.

A covered stand sounds like it would work great but i was more concerned with leaving pallets of bags outside for the winter so that is what made us look for something different . No doubt the bags are easier to do . I thought the yellow bags looked better in the stand than the wrapped bundles maybe i should have done a side by side test to see what the customer likes better . We picked that twister up at a yard sale for $400 other than that i would have still ben wrapping by hand .

Heck ya twine works great also and is probably cheaper than plastic wrap . When we was kids we used inertubes cut about an inch wide like a rubber band to make bundles an sell them . Fantastic video Phil and Karen!! Also, great information and ideas from the commenters. Been thinking about other options to tie off the ends of the yellow mesh rolls instead of the gun and rings. If you used twine with a "butcher's knot" and slip knot combination that could work. You would not have to weave it through the mesh, just around it. I know you have a lot of tests to do so maybe we can experiment some at the PB show in October. obie

Phil and Karen, I have 3 pallets of bundles left from last December . Probably 150-175 bundles. Mine are always under cover and had no problem holding together.I am not sure if you have enough shedded areas to store them until next spring. Good luck figuring it out,but good plan to get ready for next year. Phil your n and n trailer is 82 inches wide by 14 feet long. When you dump in loose how many cords can you haul. I am hoping I can get 2 cords on the trailer I just bought. 6 x 12 x 3= 216 cf. and that has to be stacked and that’s a little over. 5 face cords. Looks like 4 loose is All I can haul. Let me know what you think.

Sounds like a good plan for your bagging wood, just think that your rent for stand space is high with no security to prevent theft. To bad you can't sell them your bags for X amount and they sell them for their price and you keep the stands stock, Easier to keep track of your average profit per bag. Anyway I think that your idea of stocking up bags during the Winter is great, best of luck to you and the new tractor , ,,,oh,,, er and the skirt idea. LOL.

Bags are definately the way to go.. we do potatoe bags thru uline and dont cost much.. just make sure they have uv poly mixed in than they will last for a while.. last winter we bagged in mn and still selling em now. Buy by the bulk tho.. alot cheaper. I usually order 20,000 plus bags at a time just for the savings. Keep innovating the process.

I can tell you from personal experience that the bags deteriorate VERY quickly in the sun. Not just fade but to the point of ripping in less than a month here in Texas. I have also seen a couple of videos on other channels that have had the same issues

I think the yellow mesh bags are better because customers can see the wood they are getting. Raise your price $1.00. Sales will hold up as everything is costing more, why not your firewood...

Most everyone ive seen in this area charges $5 or less an trust me on the rd we are selling on theres a stand every mile or 2 . We went with $6 ea or 3 for $15 an its worked out ok . The mesh bags will let us bag the wood green right off the splitter this winter instead of stacking it then bagging it after it has dried . The yellow really stands out when driving by the stand so thats a big plus .

Hey just seen your video pretty sweet. The wrap sucks they brake when they get wet. The firewood bags are great but I noticed they will fade in color over time in the sun. How well do the nets hold up over time.
@AllenFamilyFirewood
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
We just started using the yellow bags but I’ve compared them to the red bags an the material is more than twice as thick it’s also uv resistant so the sun won’t degrade them . The other big plus is there half the cost but you have to make the bags yourself .

One of the biggest problems in the world is plastic. It takes hundreds of years to go away and in the meantime, as it breaks down, it gets in our food chain through animals getting it in small pieces in the water. I could have a big firewood business, because I live in a tourist, camping, hiking area. I will not wrap in plastic or use plastic bags. I have made some bundles with jute twine, but they don't stay tight. I mainly sell loose firewood. I tried to get the guy that makes the Amish bundler to design one that uses twine. Havn't heard back from him. I understand that these are the only proven ways to run a bundle business but there has to be a better way.
@AllenFamilyFirewood

Im with ya James not a fan of plastic but right now the wrap or the bags is about the only good option for doing large amounts of bundle wood for us .

I think it’s a really great concept. It seems to be more time consuming then wrapping. Not sure if there are any requirements in Maine to label quantities of a product sold. Tags might be an option for labeling, especially if you could secure it with the ring when you close the seal the bag.
