If you’re worried about overheating zinc yet again in the future, I’ve heard that you can melt glass in the same crucible and it’ll float on top without mixing, protecting the metal from oxygen. Apparently it’s a common practice since most if not all metals produce at least a little oxide when melted and exposed to oxygen.

Dust melts are always fun. Is it an ingot? Or is it an explosive? Aluminum dust with any oxide = THERMITE!! In other news, I ran into my first Magnesium yesterday. One minute I'm melting some scraps down. Next the paparazzi jumps out of the furnace all flashy and starts a zinc fire!

As a note from a big fan. Hobby related info. Slag and Dust: The difference in appearance. Dust is shavings of refined metals. Slag is more like ore rock for consistency.

Would say ya an amazing day but found one my semi expensive tarantulas in a bad molt and she's lost 3 legs on one side the 4th might as well be gone the other side is ok and she's missing one pedipalp so now I have ta hand feed and water her which is a task all it's own she's trying ta bite me now that she's healed some n got some water n her system and she's got a medically significant bite so ya not such good day and thanks for the asking sir have a great day urself and TBA KS for sharing the vids keep up the great work BIG STACKD hope ya get rid the stupid bully crows

The Al dust is probably fine enough to turn to aluminium oxides, you would likely need a reducing agent to pull the oxygen off and probably an oxygen free environment to turn it back to metal
