Ever consider putting your splitters back to back so the hoppa can feed both and the conveyor can service both?
@AllenFamilyFirewood
@AllenFamilyFirewood 15 күн бұрын
We could put them back to back but the hitch and engine stick out quite far on the axis and that would make them about 3 ft apart . Add in the 2 ft of table width for each splitter and the I beam for each splitter and it would be 8 ft across . I’m sure with a special table with a divider and a lot of welding it could be done . The single conveyor on the out feed side would be a problem . An easier fix is just add another hopper feeder to the axis .

That teamwork on the splitters was impressive! A good days effort there. Interesting re the seasoned wood debate. I've ringed and split logs cut two whole years before and found the "seasoned " centre of those 2.5ft logs still recorded 42% moisture. Not fit to burn! However after splitting and tossing in a heap,different story. 16-20%! Wonderful burning. Love your videos. Cheers for HB NZ

Hello Phil and Karen. Phil you’re getting a little wooly looking. Now I can see why you need that lower wood yard for more storage. I thought all the wood you had split in the upper wood yard would have lasted for this seasons sales. At this rate you might have to make a sub lower wood yard for more storage. Glad to see it’s a good year for selling wood. Thanks for another good video.

Bins are to much work . When ya splitting they are faster to just dump the wood into but come delivery time there’s no way we could go and deliver 10 full cord in a day if we had to hand chuck the wood on . With pallets we just stack it from the trailer and it’s done . Come delivery time I can load 2 cord in about 15 minutes by my self compared to hand chucking wood for 2 hrs to get 2 cord on . For us it’s faster with the pallets. Also can you picture Karen up on top of a wood bin covered in snow chucking wood lol .

What do people in your area consider seasoned wood compared to dry ready to burn wood? To me they are the same thing.
@AllenFamilyFirewood
@AllenFamilyFirewood 15 күн бұрын
Maine law says seasoned wood is wood that has been cut split an stacked for 3 months . Most everyone in the wood business around here dose just that . I try and educate my customers each time I make a delivery so they know going forward . You and I both know that you can’t cut a tree down today cut split and stack it and have it ready to burn in 3 months . That’s why we only sell dry ready to burn today wood .
@iffykidmn8170
@iffykidmn8170 15 күн бұрын
@@AllenFamilyFirewood Sounds as if Maine could use a firewood producer to rewrite their law, something like when split in half at time of delivery the inside moisture level is 20% or less. as you aware depending on conditions at time of cutting it could be possible to hit the 20% moisture in 3 months or less if starting with dead standing vs green wood.
@AllenFamilyFirewood
@AllenFamilyFirewood 15 күн бұрын
@ I don’t think it would matter much people don’t have any idea what there buying for the most part . That’s why we only sell dry ready to burn today wood . No complaints that way . The other big complaint is they got shorted . The state says a 180 cu ft of loose thrown wood is a cord and they also say 128 cu ft of stacked wood is a cord and. Problem is when you stack 180 cu ft of loose thrown wood it only stacks out to 110 - 115 cu ft not a full cord . That’s why most guys deliver it as loose thrown wood. . I never get complaints because I know our pallets hold a half cord of stacked wood . A full cord of loose thrown actually comes out to about 200 cu ft . That’s why we try and educate the buyers when we’re there making a delivery .

Ya as a rule I don’t shave or get a haircut in the winter . Cold windy days that extra hair helps keep ya warm . Ow trust me she know I don’t wash floors my job is to make them dirty . Them hollow logs are great fire pits . They also hardly burn any wood but put out a lot of heat just make sure it’s got a lil notch cut in the bottom to let air in or put a lil rock under one side . We just keep feeding it with scraps from the ground and occasionally put in a big stick .

What size is your dump trailer? I called Thumb Trailers this morning looking to get a tandem 16 foot. Just wondering what your size is and do you recommend the sides?
@AllenFamilyFirewood
@AllenFamilyFirewood 15 күн бұрын
Ours is a 7 by 14 . Holds 2 full cord of loose thrown wood . It also toes nice behind our 3/4 ton truck . I think it’s a 14 thousand lb trailer . Size trailer you need depends on what you’re going to do with it . Also keep in mind state laws and what kind of license you have . If I put my trailer behind a one ton truck I would need a class A cdl license but behind a 3/4 truck I’m legal . Just add the gvw of your trailer and your truck if it adds up to more than 26,000 lbs you need a class A cdl . Could be different laws in your state but I would ck first before you buy .

I love ya Phil, the only things you need to keep you happy is a dog, a 12oz can of Dew, a chainsaw and a stacking machine and maybe “old buster”. By the way Phil I think you need to call a “timeout” pretty soon and visit your barbershop or else get a dog license. Of course I’m jesting but I bet Karen may be in agreement with me. I’m happy to see your channel growing so much. I think when I started following you guys you had less than 2,000 viewers but look at you now! You must have followers from many directions. Give Blue a pat on the head from me. 😅😅❤

I actually like the cold but Karen on the other hand not so much . I’d say firewood will make ya look old but feal young lol . I think after another yr we will have enuf pallets built so we can just focus on cutting an splitting so we will have wood to sell yr round . Just takes time to have the infrastructure in place to keep everything rolling .

I have 90 cords of seasoned, mostly hickory, and can't sell it in my area. None of it is under 2 years old. I sell a little to my campers, and have2 people that buy smoker wood. I don't advertise; I am too old to sell like I used to. I can't replace it fast enough. We have an indoor furnace. We have over a ft. of snow we got yesterday, and it will be some time before I can get out and cut. Ash is probably my favorite wood overall, but we were the first state to get hit by the ash borer and our trees explode when they hit the ground. Only good in a fireplace. Not fit to sell
@AllenFamilyFirewood
@AllenFamilyFirewood 15 күн бұрын
Sounds like you’ll be able to supply your campers for some time Jim! We were really lucky and missed that storm, we have no snow on the ground right now but we know it’s coming!
