Well ole Buster takes some getting used to for sure an when you lose ya fear of it bad things can happen like almost loosing ya thumb . It definitaly takes all ya focus when ya trying to crank out the wood i guess it would be kinda like driving a race car at 200 mph ya better be paying attention or its gona hurt . I can turn the speed down so it would be more comparable to other vertical splitters but thats not very challenging lol.

Good. Video and job. That was a nice load of logs . Dirty wood is a mess I sawed a rock one time that was inside of the of tree that chain went in the scrap pile take care be safe and well.

We always get nice logs from that tree company an they do a nice job trimming them up for us . Having the yard all level will help alot on keeping all the logs outa the dirt as well . Yrs ago 25 ft up in a old maple that we were taking down we found ware someone filled in a huge hollow spot with concrete . Ya just never know whats going to be inside a tree lol.

You're tougher than me. I can't bend over like that to buck so I use a long bar. I feel your pain with the dirty wood though. I use square ground chain mostly and it's a bit more time consuming to sharpen. I always have 3 or 4 saws on hand so I don't need to keep sharpening chain. I am in the habit of touching up my chain everytime I refuel. If I'm felling I can usually go the day with out an in-depth sharpening. I only cut wood for myself these days but I do a felling cutting class once a year. That in tailes a week with a strong emphasis on safety. As an added bonus I will take folks out individually to cut wood as well and all for free. It's a big help bringing in my own wood. The younger crowd wants to learn to split with an axe so I teach them here at the house. Even in my mid 60's I still enjoy hand splitting as well. Keep up the good work.
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
Im not a fan of bending over either every yr the ground gets further away lol. I like the long bars but i hate having to sharpen them . Good to see someone is teaching the younger folks about cutting wood an splitting with axe .
@davidlibby7230 Жыл бұрын
I use a sharpening stone and have been for years. For me it works better than a file. II had a chain sharpened at a chain saw store thinking they would do it better than I could. They ruined the chain. Each tooth was blue from being heated and they took over half the tooth in the grinding. Using a stone I lightly grind it so it does not heat up. Nice sharp finish,
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
I definitely agree heating up the chain isn't the answer. i've always used a file and it works great for me everybody has their own way of doing it an as long as it works thats all that matters thanks for always watching David

I really like the similar chisel chain. Cut lot wood that’s been on the ground stays sharp lot longer. Man wish I had that soil here. It make for heck of a garden.
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
Not sure i have ever tryed a chisel chain . I just go in the saw shop an say give me 6 chains please i dont even have to say what size they all know me an know its for the 500 that i bought there . I wouldnt think that sand would grow much but its probably better than hard clay or rock . We have put 4 inches of nice loam down for a lawn an after 3 yrs most of the loam has washed down threw the sand .

Looks like a missed opportunity- could have sent out Mike Rowe and his crew to to record Phil for a episode of “Dirty Jobs” ( probably have to do a lot of editing for Salty Language😂 wonder how a Carbide tipped chain would hold up? What is the difference between camp wood and firewood?
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
Camp wood is short for camp fire wood . Most people around here burn soft wood like pine outside for a camp fire . Around here people burn hardwood inside in the woodstove an call it fire wood . So basically camp wood is for outdoor camp fires and firewood is for heating your home .

Ow i get plenty of iron in all the tree service wood we get . I hit some big cables in a log a few weeks back and nails are in about 1/3 of the logs we saw on the mill . The best one was concrete i guess back in the day when a tree was hollow they would fill it with concrete go figure lol.
@jameschandler2776 Жыл бұрын
You could tell the chain was dull by how slow it was cutting. She was running fast but not going anywhere. Dirty wood is no fun. All my wood is on my place and naturally dropped, the wood is not dragged and I only have trouble with dirt when I get close to the butt of a tree that uprooted. Anymore I just cut for me and sell a little to people that stay in y cabins. That chain is about at the end of its life. Much better after it was sharpened

New chain old chain does not matter to me with dirty wood you're going to be filling away chain coming to its useful end that much quicker. Best thing to do with a new dirtbike is to kick it over in the parking lot and get over the first scratch blues and move on because you know your eventually going to drop it anyway. I do hate rocking a new chain but then again, I hate rocking anychain new or old new just feels worse.
