Hi Allen Iv'e only watched 1:5 minutes of your video. A guy I know's son install is own Vokera boiler last year. It didn't work so they asked me to look at it. The Plastic wrap around flue clamp had been thrown away. He didn't know what it was for, but thought it was some find of bracket. The actual reason it didn't work, was the gas valve needed adjustment. There might be a chance he install your Boiler 🤣

Good video as always Allen 👍 Not a good situation when you buy a property and the owner tells you that. Although the owner may not have been unaware of how bad the install was. But just goes to prove you can't always trust what your told when buying houses. It was similar in a way when I sold my house not long ago. I got it serviced, but the sump had a hairline crack. Could have just ignored it and sold the house with a serviced boiler. But my conscious and morals along with the engineers recommendation, I had it replaced. There's a saying that goes "don't do to others, what you wouldn't like done to yourself" Also I think when these situations occur, there should be some sort of regulation that if the boiler manufacturer attends a badly installed boiler. They should take the details of the installer and be stored on a database. Then if it becomes a regular occurrence with the said installer, it should be reported to Gas Safe to investigate further. This would then flag up dodgy installers or those that require additional training to up their standards.

As an electrician just interested how a professional gas engineer does a service I would like to add comment and ask a question. Firstly I don’t think that supply flex should trail through hot pipes especially as it doesn’t appear to be heat resistant flex usually white in colour. Also not one clip used to keep it supported. My question would be would you always check main earth bonding to gas as part of your checks ?

Good morning Allan So after going through TB 118 the instructions then require you to start poking around a live PCB to set the thing up ? Obviously Immediately dangerous at the very least . So the thing is burning properly ,the water quality ok but the heat exchanger is faulty after a year . Not worth the cost of the heat exchanger is it Allan ? If it's your own house you will never be happy looking at that! Lastly I used to buy short core valves for the pressure vessels in a blister pack at local motor factors ,a couple of quid for 4 ,they are just the same as for a car tire . Sometimes it's not possible to get the strait tool in but I used the car valve tool shaped like a cross with the two unused tools cut down so you can get it in tight spots but still have some purchase when turning if that makes sense, Cheers.

@ryandow39543 жыл бұрын
I think it's more to do with it being within touching distance if under 2mtrs, even though with modern boilers I think it's unlikely you will get a burn injury from touching it 😂 I guess that rule might have originated with standard effeciency boilers with metal flues that would have run a lot hotter.

@@ryandow3954 that sounds like a reasonable/sensible answer. But honestly I don't get it the 2m rule 😱

The original idea of the 2m rule was that before condensing boilers the flue terminals for balanced flue boilers especially those without fans got very hot Indeed. The original idea was to prevent children from burning themselfs When fan flues came along it was more about the hot exhaust gas ,No idea why they need them with condensate boilers from a safety point of view , curtainly not to 2m There is a case to assist in the prevention of damage by kids etc though.

@ricardobranco73573 жыл бұрын
Warranty on badly installed boiler should depend on if the person installing it has been certified by that manufacturer, if they have then the company should bare some responsibility else it would need to fall on the original installer wholly say the HEX failed due XYZ etc. Of course there should be some flexibility here, ie a board or sensor failing should not be voided just because the flue/case was not fitted correctly.

You can report this to your governing body but to what end and will they act. As for someone giving it the thumbs down now doubt the idiot that fitted it in the first place.

I've seen plenty of so called quality boilers prematurely fail due to poor installation! Check out the relevant BS and Building regs, and contemplate the impact on the life expectancy of a professionally installed (complying with the ubiquitous all encompassing M I's). Quality is something,from what I've seen and comments made on many channel is a fantasy for too many installers out there!!
